Title: Innovative football transfer

Megson To Continue At Leicester

Leicester City have confirmed that manager Gary Megson will remain at Leicester City, rejecting an offer from Premiership club Bolton Wanderers.

However, as part of the deal which keeps the former Nottingham Forest manager at the Walkers Stadium, up to 18,000 Leicester City supporters will be transferred out of the Club, the majority going North to Bolton Wanderers.

Although full details regarding the transfer are yet to be revealed, it is believed that season ticket holders will be given a free transfer to the club of their choice with the balance of supporters to be transferred to the Reebok Stadium in time for Sunday's premier league fixture against Aston Villa.

Club Chairman Milan Mandaric explained: "I've not been happy with the performance of many of the Leicester supporters for some time now and felt the offer from Bolton was too good to resist. I truly feel this is the best for the future of the club."

Mandaric added, "I don't want a negative atmosphere at matches where fans boo our players and manager. We have a quality team in place and are going places and I expect everyone to back me. Unfortunately our supporters seem to think otherwise and in the best interests of Leicester City it is important that we move them on as quickly as possible. Gary Megson remains part of our plans to get releg- sorry promoted. If we have to play in front of an empty stadium, then that is what we will do. At least no-one will be able to see just how bad things are. Not that they are bad at all, I have complete faith in Gary, just as I did with all the other managers, and other three I have lined up to see the season out."

Bolton chairman Phil Gartside was quoted as being very happy to see the opportunity to boost home attendances. Leicester fans will be made very welcome here. Obviously I would have preferred to have Gary himself but a few thousand Leicester fans will more than make up for it."

"all you can do is laugh"

I'm trying but it's not easy !!   ;boltpp;

Do I detect that the Leicester crowd chant of "Megson for Bolton" last night didn't go down too well with the chairman!  ;angel;

The chant coming from the few that were still awake at that point!  ;sleep;

Still Tighty, thinking about it, a dismal home defeat to Sheffield United, a Leicester team struggling to win games, crowd unrest, booing the manager................sounds vaguely familiar doesn't it?   ;)    All may not be lost !  ;D

I was not chanting last night, but I suspect when he does go the fans will get blamed

I won't miss him, its like watching paint dry with 5 at the back, 3 defensive midfielders and no pace up front...but the instability is crippling to any prospect of an improvement

All we need now to make it even worse is Glenn Roeder as the next to have a crack, or Peter Reid..etc etc

Sammy Lee is out of a job.

Maybe Christian Gross would come back to England if Mr Manderic gave him a call?

Bobby Gould? Had success in the Midlands, could do it again.

Spoilt for choice you Leicester fans.

"Gary Megson is set to speak to Bolton about their vacant managerial position after parting company with Leicester.
Foxes chairman Milan Mandaric rejected two approaches from Bolton for the 48-year-old, who only took over at Leicester six weeks ago.

But in a statement on Wednesday, Mandaric said: "Gary left me no choice when he informed me he wanted to leave Leicester and talk to Bolton."

He added: "The search for a new manager begins in earnest."

Megson is expected to take charge of Bolton in time for Sunday's Premier League match against Aston Villa.

Assistant boss Frank Burrows and Gerry Taggart have been put in temporary control at Leicester, who are now looking for their fourth manager of 2007.

In an emotional statement, Mandaric continued: "I made it abundantly clear that Bolton's interest was neither welcome or invited but it was evident to me following a meeting requested by Gary that his loyalties and heart lay elsewhere.

"Naturally I am very disappointed.

"My objectives were to stand firm in the face of mounting interest from Bolton and intense media speculation over Gary's future, but in the end these completely undermined my firm determination to retain his services.

"In point of fact it was abundantly clear to me that if I stood in Gary's way it would have a detrimental effect on the club and I was not prepared to allow that to happen."

Mandaric added that he had agreed a compensation package with Bolton - thought to be about £300,000.

Megson's last match in charge of Leicester was Tuesday's 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United during which he was the target of some fans' anger.

"The crowd's reaction to me towards the end wasn't particularly palatable from my point of view," Megson said.

Mandaric revealed that it was after the game that Megson requested a meeting with the Foxes chairman about his future.

Bolton have been looking for a new manager since parting company with Sammy Lee on 17 October.

Paul Jewell, Graeme Souness and Chris Coleman were all linked with the post before Megson emerged as the surprise favourite.

Before being appointed by Leicester on 13 September, Megson had been out of work since leaving Nottingham Forest 18 months earlier.

Before his spell at the City Ground, Megson had also managed Norwich, Blackpool, Stockport and Stoke before a four-year reign at West Brom.

Leicester won only three of Megson's nine games in chargem, and only one of those victories came in the Championship - a 2-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday"

congrats Tighty - losing Megson after 6 weeks is a right result

have to agree tho what the hell is Gartside thinking - with Megson in control if there was any chance of survival i am sure he will blow it.

These chairmen just dont get it with these managers that have kept failing - Reid, Robson, Megson etc....

Also cannot believe that no one is interested in Paul Jewell - a really solid manager IMO.  Is he courting interest or is his phone turned off for a year?

Apparently his agreement with Wigan which saw him receive a pay off was that he couldn't take a job for another 6 months without club paying a lot of comp to Wigan

This expires 1 Nov

This is madness by Bolton. Wait a week and get Jewell and have a fighting chance of survival or Get Megson now and more or less guarantee relegation.
