I may well have asked this before.

Just bought a new laptop, fantastic little machine.

Im going to buy a big desktop monitor so I can play lots of tables at a time, how do I/what do I need to do to hook his up to a laptop and use it as a desk top?

It should be as simple as plugging the lead from the monitor into your laptop.

The laptop will sort out the rest.  I'd expect that the graphics card will be able to support most resolutions.  What monitor are you looking to buy?

Beauty of having a laptop hooked up to the monitor is that you can extend your desktop and have two screens on the go (without having to buy a second screen as you would with a desktop).

I'm looking to buy a big ass monitor, any recommendations?

I'll take me lappy round to a mates with a monitor to see how easy it is, cheers.

Check what your maximum external resolution is on your laptop (no point going higher than that). Also check if it has a DVI port or just a VGA port. Most monitors should work, but there are some laptops with DVI and no VGA (and vice versa) there are also some monitors with VGA and no DVI (and vice versa). If your laptop or monitor has both then there shouldn't be a problem ;)

Remember though, if you get a widescreen with 1680x1050 resolution you can't 4-table on 800x600 tables on that screen - if you wanted to.

This is a system in use at my work, 5120 x 2048 resolution single desktop driven by a basic PC and a single graphics adapter.

We use it for shopfloor planning, be great for multitabling LOL

this is my laptop - pretty sick.


all u need is a monitor lead (specific size for monitors) and plug into - either side or back of laptop - and into back / bottom of monitor.

did i do it wrong????
i bought a 40 inch sony bravia for £600(good deal i think)
it does all as a  lap top monitor....
how much would a 40 inch monitor cost???

A 40" monitor and you're looking at well over a grand, maybe several?  Not sure how much at the moment.  40" TVs have nothing like the resolution of a 40" monitor.

40" TV is a lot less than a 32" monitor

2560 x 1600 is the maximum resolution you can get (I think!!).
