Title: PokerManager.com: Sign up for free with blonde and get a lesson from Annette_15
Post by: TightEnd on November 12, 2007, 12:57:32 PM
PokerManager.com has just been launched, a desktop application that is free to download.

blondes can download Poker Manager here  (http://pokermanager.com/?aid=1315568351)

As a new product its being soft launched and Mr Poker Manager has signed up to blonde to hear what you think of it, receive feedback etc etc

The founders of PokerManager tell me that they have spent the last 12 months on development and say:

“Our goal is to be a 1-stop-shop for poker players, every player should find something here”

So fire away with comments

Annette_15 Obrestad, the WSOPE winner and 2 EPT winners have been part of the development team.

PokerManager are offering for every blonde who signs up a free group lesson with Annette_15 where she will answer questions with the group for as long as you wish and sit and teach. Mr Poker Manager can fill you in with the details of this.

Cardplayer wrote on the product last month  See here  (http://www.cardplayer.com/online-poker/poker-beat/article/2928)

So there you are....let us know what you think

Registered no probs, however it stick a lot when on the tournament listing table.

Only had a very quick look and first impression it seems very in-depth, will need to spend some time in-depth on it.

Only question/query is how to filter the online sites on the tournament listings - is this possible?

Either that or there is some cunning player profiling algorithm in it which has decided there is nothing more it can teach Maria and I about poker.

It's relatively tricky to stop the program loading at machine startup everytime (had to do a registry edit to prevent this).

Also, the access password is stored in plaintext in the system registry.

Dougie.

This is exactly the type of application I was referring to in a previous thread regarding reading hole cards etc.

What internet line do you have?
The video's should run pretty smooth...we have stress tested the files simulating up to 5000 users watching the same video at the same time and that worked.

Tools will improve alot (!) for next version...

Title: Some ask "why would I want PokerManager". This is why
Post by: PokerManager on November 13, 2007, 07:58:32 PM
Well, let me try to convince you

1. Do you ever watch poker videos? Inside PokerManager you will find the worlds biggest archive (do a search for "poker" and you will see there are close to 50 000 videos of various length)

2. Do you ever play a online poker tournament? Inside PokerManager you will find a tournamentlisting from almost every network available. I you are happy with playing just 1-2 clients, thats fine...but if you are like a lot of others having trouble finding just the right tournaments at just the time you want to play - well there you go...pop inside PokerManager and you will 99% certain find one within minutes

3. Do you ever wonder what your odds are/were? Inside PokerManager you will find a brilliant odds calculator. In addition you have an advisor that shows you on-the-fly advice (for those of us that not allways know their odds *blush* )

4. Do you ever read any poker articles? Well, inside PokerManager you will find the latest news and articles from the leading pokermagazine

5. Do you ever chat with friends on skype/aim/msn, but find it annoying when x-girlfriends wants to chat with you JUST when you for once ( ehh ) are playing poker? Inside PokerManager you will find a poker IM, and can add your pokerfriends there.

6. Do you ever miss the start of a tournament you really wanted to play (a satelite or something)? Well, inside PokerManager you can right click any tournament, add to calendar and voila - you will be reminded 60,30,15 and/or 5 minutes before it starts. (even by SMS in the next version)

7. Do you ever visit any forums/communities? Err...i guess you do

(...and loooads more)

If you can't find 1 reason to use PokerManager, well maybe it's just not for you...hopefully you will give it a go though. We will do our best in constant developing it, and sooner or later we will have something that YOU also will find useful ;)

Oh btw..it's free, so you are not risking any hard earned € giving it a go

I'm honestly not dissing your software / offer or anything, just unhappy I didn't find any option to stop load at startup without asking.

If your read the post I refer to, reading hole cards is easy, the hard bit is getting your code on a user's pc. Also, storing password's plain text is bad.

Dougie.

This didn''t happen to me, when I installed it I had an option to click/unclick "load at start-up" - (maybe my pc has this feature in it rather than the poker software though???)

Have downloaded and using site very impressive so far.

A central banking system would be a good idea methinks.  It would be handy if we could buy into a tournament via the software rather than registering for each site when we want to play a particular tourney.

You'd give your bank details to them, and let them look after your money?  Not saying they wouldn't be anything but legitimate, but  you wouldn't know the first thing about their security.  It would also mean all the poker rooms giving them access to their secure transactional applications.  Not going to happen.

I don't.  But I don't want to add another link into the chain.  If a poker room does something with my money, I will speak to them about it.  I don't play for huge sums, and I'm sure they'd sort out any problems fairly rapidly.  If a third-party get involved, who is responsible if some money gets 'lost'?

PokerManager use port 80, please open this in your firewall.

Whatever you do DO NOT "OPEN" port 80!!!
You can configure your firewall to allow this app to use port 80 but make sure it is not open to all, most of the old trojans/worms attack this port because it is the HTTP port.
I manually configured my firewall (ghostwall) with the ports i posted on page 2, this allowed it to work .

You'll soon break everyone's browsing with this kind of generic statement.

Port 80 is used for OUTBOUND connections (quite legitimately) for browsing.

Port 80 - INBOUND is if your hosting your own web server. This would be the default port.

Without getting into any arguments, I would not allow any application on my PC waiting to serve incoming requests on port 80.

Incoming requests for ANY APP trying to act as a server on your PC is bad news. You must trust the application 100%, otherwise they OWN your computer (or technically have the equivelant privleges as the user account you are running under - usually admin rights on XP home).

Really?
How?
I said do not open the port fully as advised (the bit i quoted), astonishingly i don't just make stuff up.

BTW thanks for the lesson in port 80........................................................

IFM - I think Ecosse was referring to the post previous to yours, and was agreeing and reiterating your statement.

It's very bad practice to send emails out to people without explicitly giving them a simple and obvious means of unsubscribing themselves from your mailing list.

They are now dealt with by my spam filter, as like you said Michelle, there's no way to opt out of the emails.  I too uninstalled the application from my computer some time ago.

Maybe you could PM the representative who posts on here - and continue PMing him until your address is removed from their list?

I too uninstalled the app a week or so ago - the security 'issues' made me nervous.

What annoyed me was when I signed up there was NO option to opt out of receiving any kind of communication. I assumed (wrongly) that once I had registered and got into the software there would be an options filter in the account or something.

Will keep PM'ing the rep as you suggest Kin.

This reminder will only be sent once a month (untill you fill in your profile), and we are including a "remove me from e-mail list link from now on"

Has anyone been using this for a while now?  What do you think of it if so?

I was going to use it as it sounds excellent, but I tend to only play on a few sites and I find I just fire them up and don't really need this software to let me know what's going on.  Also, I assume it's collecting bits of info on me and I don't like that thought either.

I've explained (hopefully) in a few other threads why installing ANY software on your PC has to be treated with suspicion. Some relevant facts :-

1. 99% of XP home PC's will be running under the administrator account which allows any software running on your computer to do ANYTHING to said computer.

examples :-

Find every word document, excel spreadsheet on PC, send to third party.
Read entire registry in known locations for stored passwords (this software stores your password in cleartext in your registry)
Capture every key you press and the web site you are visiting at the time, send to third party.

Above is so trivial to any half competent programmer, you must be so aware and carefull with installing software from unknown sources.

I'll preach again, and mention VMWARE and running a virtual machine for each and every one of your banking / finance / poker site visits.

It's relatively straightforward for PC savvy people but can be a serious challenge for those not technically minded.

Anyone needs any pointers on what to do just give me a shout.

p.s. Anyone still using this software should be extremely cautious in my opinion. The constant emails etc do not give any re-assurance whatsover and as mentioned the software is technically very security-unconcious.

Dougie.
