Should have been a penalty.

Scotland are back in the game now.

Title: Re: Scotland v Italy
Post by: Ironside on November 17, 2007, 05:32:36 PM
that was never offside lucky break there

but great save by gordon

Title: Re: Scotland v Italy
Post by: Ironside on November 17, 2007, 05:34:22 PM
is boyd on the bench?

cause thats who we need on someone that can covert the chances

rather than the players we have who make something out of nothing

Title: Re: Scotland v Italy
Post by: Ironside on November 17, 2007, 05:47:49 PM
OMG that was some clearance off the line

Title: Re: Scotland v Italy
Post by: kinboshi on November 17, 2007, 05:49:29 PM
Shame that header earlier wasn't put in the same place.

Scotland could easily get one back in this and then it's game on.  Better them having scored in the first few minutes than in the 89th minute.

Title: Re: Scotland v Italy
Post by: Newportlad on November 17, 2007, 05:50:40 PM
Worst possible start for the Scots.   Apart from a 5 minute flurry, they are not really threatening to score.
Not sure why the Italian goal was ruled out.  Never offside.  Great save by Gordon though.

Its not over yet, but the Scots really need to score in the first 20 mins of the 2nd half, otherwise the Italians will just slow the game down.

Let's throw caution to the wind, get miller and boyd on.Play them up front with mcfadden in behind.I would rather lose 3 or 4 nil, than go down without a fight.

Title: Re: Scotland v Italy
Post by: kinboshi on November 17, 2007, 05:51:53 PM
Might have been for handball?  Certainly should have been a penalty for handball earlier.

Title: Re: Scotland v Italy
Post by: bobby1 on November 17, 2007, 05:52:20 PM
Scotland playing great and had a bit of luck with the offside decision, has the hallmarks of a frustrating draw at the mo.

Title: Re: Scotland v Italy
Post by: Ironside on November 17, 2007, 05:53:34 PM
a draw means we need france to lose to the ukraine so i am not hopefull on that

so 2 goals are needed

kris boyd is the guy that can convert if we get the ball in the box

mcfadden isnt getting the ball so needs support

Terrible selection by the manager - McFadden's struggling to get a game with Everton as Moyes wants to play a target man & McFaddens not built for it - so Scotland play him as a target man  :dontask:

Miller should have been out there to tire out the Italian defence & 2nd half McFadden could hopefully capitalise on it.

Kris Boyd's great scoring against lesser teams - he's not mobile enough for a game against Italy.

Boyd wouldn't get on unless we're in the last 10 as far as I'm concerned. He's a scorer, but doesn't work hard enough. We're up against a great team and need 11 grafters out there.

Hartleys' quiet - but so's Pirlo - leave it like that as Pirlo'll slaughter us if he's left alone.

Miller on as a front man is done now I'm afraid.... have to go with what we've on hope to get a goal & give Boyd the last 5-10 to hope to steal it IMHO

Scotland should have had a penalty in the first half as well, so the Italians can't really complain.

Same with England.  Israel will win tonight.  England will lose next week.

Was hoping both England and Scotland could have got through.  Might end up with neither there.  Always the World Cup to try and qualify for next...

I would give you a 24 hour cooler ban for trolling - but I doubt you're worth it - but if anyone gets banned for their replies to you, you'll have earned the same ban IMHO.

Scots blondes - don't give him the satisfaction, ignore him.

Rod gets a bit OTT - in anger - so I'm sorry troops I've been assured it was a wind-up not meant to be nasty. I do worry that comments can cause other fellow-blondeites to get in trouble & would hope that digs are a wee bit more subtle, or left until those who have been out for the match have time to calm down so that they don't get banned.

We're all supposed to be mates, lets not take it too far.

Edit - Isael won - Russia hit the post, Israel go up the park and score.....  God's Scottish, but he's lazy... the Devil's English and active ;) - Well Done England - you've now got a better tchance than we had.

tell you what scotland have the makings of an excellent team, just a few positions needing filled, first team, must go, squad player

1. gordon - best british keeper?
2. hutton - best british right back? what a player he is becoming!
3. naysmith- not good enough, player needed
4. weir- decent/good defender but at 37 new player needed
5. macmanus- improving every year, takes a while to be a centre back master, excellent potential
6. ferguson - class act
7. hartley- good player, defo for squad, starting 11 maybe
8. fletcher- red herring, this guy is living on man utd reputation, needs to improve
9. brown - different class, can only get better
10. mcculloch - good solid player, needs some support from left back
11. mcfadden- potentially our match winner

so i say 7 definite first team players, 2 maybes and 2 to go

on the bench there was...
boyd -who should start alongside mcfadden
miller- who has 90% work ethic and 10% finishing, not a fan but usefull squad player
macgregor- excellent season for rangers so far may push gordon in future
caldwell- i dont rate him as a centre back but may do a job in centre mid
alexander- not good enough
robson- like his attitude, is he good enogh though?
pearson- wonderful in paris, terrible vrs ukraine, great potential

I don't think that Hutton is better than Neville. Gordon vs Robbo is a tough one because now that Segars is not the Spurs goalkeeper coach, I can see Robinson gaining his confidence/form back.

IMHO Robinson is not the best En glish keeper, Robert Green is

This may as said just be loss of form/confidence its true, but I would have to go for Gordon over Robinson

Best Young keepers around are Wayne Hennessey of Wolves/Wales and Joe Hart of Man C/England U21, add Foster when fit again

I need to emphasize now that Hans Segars has left Spurs' coaching staff will mean that Robinson will be back to his best. Han Segars has a knack of installing disbelief into the goalkeepers he coaches.

We had exactly the same at Liverpool.  Turned potential world beaters into average keepers.
