Title: Bluesquare.com Blackpool GUKPT: Day 1B - Interactive
Post by: NoflopsHomer on November 16, 2007, 03:47:52 AM
Writing a prologue for a Day 1B is always really tough, since essentially all we can say is, "Here we going again..." so trying to come up with something new and inventive but not repetitious is a real challenge. A challenge I'm trying to get around by simply referring to it as a challenge...

Day 2 is easier, because you can always talk about the big stacks, who is looking good and who you reckon is playing well and whether 'so-and-so will blow his massive chip lead for the third competition running...'

Then when you get to the final day there's always an excellent story about at least one or two of the players, be it good or bad and you can build up the final table and whether this one will be a classic, and usually my predictions are absolutely dead on the money completely wrong in all ways. For example a few days ago in Bristol, the line-up was absolutely brilliant but somehow, through no fault of the players or structure, it just didn't seem to work for me as a spectacle or a poker fan, (though when it comes out on TV, knowing my luck, it'll be a cracker).

So how to describe Day 1B...

I could begin by naming a few players who'll be around. But most viewers will know if a regular wasn't playing yesterday, he or she is most likely playing today. I could try and get around it by just posting the chip counts from last night, but they're already here: http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=28957.msg592244#msg592244

I just can't think of anything to put for the Day 1B intro, if you have any ideas then let me know...

Oh and play will begin at 3pm.

Here we go again.

Well it's a complete sell-out today, we've already got 3 alternatives waiting to play. Alan (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=897) Vinnicombe (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=897) is the first casualty with Nick (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=305) Gibson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=305) the beneficiary, but all he would say was, "the ideal card I wanted was a club that paired the board..." He'd housed up with Tens whereas Vinnicombe was holding Ac 8c.

Barry (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=42) Neville (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=42) has already lost a big 8k pot, passing to a milky 2k bet on the river of a 9c 7h Ac 3d Qc.

Dan Owston has hit a straight flush already with 4c 5c on a 2c 3c 6h 6c board extracting a fair number of chips from the utterly fabulously named Ben Dong who was holding a six.

Barny Boatman, fresh from his success in Bristol, just won a 4,000 pot from Chunkymick, on a 9c 4d 6d 5h 5c board with 8h 7d.

Dan Carter is wishing he stayed at the bar to get his food as he's already down to 9,000.

Good Luck to Mr Silo & other Blondes.

Yes good luck indeed to Silo Graham or Graham Codd as his mother named him.  He is table buddies with Simon Zach, Neil Channing, Andrew O'Flaherty & Nam Le today, pah peice of cake for the blondeite.

As mentioned by Floppy, a highly enthused Nick Gibson here after doubling up almost straight away.

Another blonde Woodsey / Andrew Woods has picked up a few chips early doors.  There were a few limpers then a raise from Andrew Feldman to 150, Woodsey gave him a spin with  6d 3h and was rewarded with a flop of

3d 5d 6s  Woodsey fired out and was called, same again on the  3c turn and same again on the  Kc river.  Feldman was holding  Js Jh and payed off the cheeky monkey.

A spate of exits for you now:

We've lost S Pearl with K-T vs Craig Holloway's A-T on a T-x-x board, this is the same table that also features Kevin O'Leary, Jeff Kimber and Julian Thew. Thewy is doing least well of all with just 2k left after flopping two pair with J-7 but finding Stephen Chandler with a set of Nines, a 7 on the turn assured there was going to no escaping however the hand was played.

Richard Ashby has been gifted practically all of David la Ronde's chips with Aces versus Queens. "Sadly I can't make it any more exciting than that," he said.

Luke Trotman is cursing his bad luck at flopping a straight, only to discover that Chris Gavriel had flopped the nut flush with Ahrt Th. With Roberto Romanello also in the hand, swelling the size of pot, combined with Gavriel's reputation for making big moves and playing with filth on a regular basis was enough evidence to deny benefit of the doubt. Even Romanello said afterwards to Gavriel, "I was so sure you were bluffing there..."

Finally, here is Womble exercising his folding hand no doubt...

Maria has some Dominic Kay news for you and also a tale of Dan Carter running gooooooooooooood...

Here is Dominic Kay but sadly he is down to about 5,000.  He is a vocal fella, and has just been involved in a hand where he was reraised and dwelled for a quite a while.  Ariston, not wanting to be out done on the yapping stakes said "Mate, I'm not gonna call the clock on you in a second, I'm gonna call the calender on you!"

Dan (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=86) Carter (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=86) has doubled up through scouser Terence Page in rather excitingly outdrawtastic circumstances.  On board of :

 Js 4d 4c

Dan bet out 1,800 in first position which tickled Terence into a 4,000 reraise.  Dan had a long hard think but couldn't pass his   Kh 4s.  He announced all in with an InstaCall from Terence and an InstaQuote from Dan "You have Ace 4 don't you?"

Indeed Terence did have A 4 but a sick  Ks on the turn and  Qh on the river, sent the chips over to master Carter and a tasty 20,100 stack now for him.

Roberto the Filth Merchant...

Mr Romanello checked call bets of 1,200 and 1,000 on a Ad 7c 2h 6d board before betting out 2,500 on the 5h river, his opponent quickly calling with Ac Kd, Roberto showed 7s 2s...

Julian Thew has doubled up, pushing for 1.5k over the top of a 500 bet on a 3c 2c 3h and getting called. Julian showed 6c 6h, which looked as though they maybe vunerable until the bettor showed 4c 4d!

Mark Robinson, Dave Penly and H Yilmaz are all OUT.

And we are now, slightly oddly on a *************************1 Hour Dinner Break********************

ps. Good luck to Stuart (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=421) Rutter (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=421) who is my dark horse for this event... well, my pick in the blonde comp anyhow.

This is Dominic Kay, who many will recognise from the Gutshot where he has made his fair share of final tables. He also made the recent WSOPE final table for no entry fee. A Betfair player who qualified through a satellite couldn't make it and because Dominic had helped him out when (1) he'd asked for the password for the satellite and (2) offered advice when the player tried to sell his seat, he was offered a 50-50 split if he played in his place.

Well, it worked out well for the both of them, to the tune of around 70k each. Not bad for a few days work, especially when one is freerolling and the other isn't even there!

I've just got back from a short pool session with Dan Carter and Stuart Rutter, I've got to be honest and say Stuart is possibly the worst player ever! But at the same time, he's probably the most exciting, as you generally don't know where the balls are going to go. Sadly in the comp, he's only got around 4k at the moment.

I'm afraid, Colonel, the Camel is not here. He's not on the list, therefore he's not coming in! ;)

Play is just about to restart with the blinds 75/150

Alright thanks Bo, just spoke to your brother.  Now it all makes sense, I told him you said "Hi" and he laughed and said "No chance he is saying hi to me, probably just wants my chip count."  I thought for a moment that you were not even mates and you were asking his count hoping it was very low lol.

hey maria. please can you pass on the best of luck to stu rutter and Nick (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=306) Hicks (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=306).

and noflops is right, stu is absolutely terrible at pool. still, if there was a competition for who could hit the ball off the most cushions he would be in!...

Tom x

Dan almost 7-balled him, if he had made this one fairly easy shot...

Actually speaking of Stuart, he's just almost doubled up, moving in on the river of a 8c 4c 8s Ac 7d board, Simon Grace passed his 8d 9h face up, resulting in a tap on the table from Rutter as he showed 8h 7d.

Marty Wilson took a decent pot from Dave Smith on a 4-8-Q-2-7 board with trip Eights, but missed a bet by inexplicably checking the river against Dave who isn't not an incredibly aggressive player, but at the same time is hard to push off a hand.

Oh and Barry Neville just suffered a...

moment. Maria has the details..

News just in is that Barry Neville is OUT.  A big pot apparently with 3 way action, the short stack Mike Lott was all in on a flop of:

 Qd 9s 8c

Muntaser Humadi made a bet and Barry moved all in over the top.  Muntaser called, on their backs with:

Neville  8d 8h
Muntaser   9c 9d

Muntaser takes the pot and knocks both players out.

We've looked through the player list and can't find him anywhere, are you sure he's playing today?

Julian Thew is OUT. No details as yet, the previous hand he'd actually doubled up to 7k so a standard Thewy rollercoaster. Nevertheless, one of these days he'll get that big tourney win that he's due... ;)

I had to post about these two lovely local chaps, I have spent 2 nights getting to know them in the cash game here and are awesome fun.  The first chap is Linton Holling and has me in stiches every time he open's his mouth.

Linton looking rather Jokeresque

Priyan De Mel is OUT. A couple of calculated bluffs that went wrong, first with A-Q on a J-T-2-9-7 board that ran into Eights. Then he fired three barrels again into an A-2-3-A-7 board but was check/called by A-J.

Matt Tyler is having a turbulent time, he raised from the cut-off which the button, small and big blinds called. Matt can't remember the exact flop, but he hit a pair and a gutshot draw and lead for 600, the button min-raised and the blinds passed. Sensing weakness, Matt set him in for 6,000 more and was INSTA-called by erm, A-6 for no hand no draw, except the foe managed to hit runner runner straight to knock Matt to just about 1,500. He managed to double up with T-T vs Tim Flander's 6-4 on an 8-6-4 board when the turn brought a second 8 to counterfeit and has since had his Aces paid off and is back up to 13k. A bizarre half-an-hour...

Chris Gavriel is OUT. One of the 'big moves' mentioned earlier that went wrong.

Dominic Kay is also OUT.  No details, just a human size space where he was once sat.

Hello Mr River, came back with 15.5k at the last break, raised it up in LP with  Ahrt Th too 1600, which was met by an all in (another 3100 to call) his  8c 9c won. Was down to around 10000, raised a few hands but my raises were not getting much respect (not sure why) so when I had 9 BB's left I decided to move in instead of being re-raised again and ran into a big pair (I had an overcard ahem)

So how are you these days?

I'm afraid not, we saw and heard nothing.

In other news C T Law has doubled up to 25,000 through Jerome Bradpiece.

Nick Hicks is OUT after practically only playing 2 hands all day, the first dent was Kings against Aces and the nail in the coffin was a sick JJ v 88 only for an 8 to smack onto the felt for his oppo..

Unlucky Gas. The day your raises don't get respect we're all in trouble.  Good luck in the Vic leg (one of these things has your name on it).

Relatively frustrating days for both Ash Hussain and Chaz Chattha, both struggling away with just 4k and seemingly unable to get started.

'Skalie' John Kalmar is OUT. He held K-Q on a K-7-J board against the double gutshotting T-9 which hit on the river. Adam Wilkinson has also exited, the decibel level won't change much though since Mad Marty Wilson is still there...

Richard Hawes, in seat 9 below, and who is very much a Beck lookalike or 'Beckalike' has just exited to the hands of Jason Shellum in seat 10.

Beckalike bet 2,500 on the turn of a 7h Ad Td 6d board an Shellum set him in, Hawes called with Ac Qc whilst Shellum had him drawing dead with 7s 7c...

The players have just been on a very short break so I took my chance to hunt down Stuart Rutter for brother Tom.  Stuart has graciously gone from 3k upto a current 20,000.  All done in a few hands but it begin with Stuart holding 8 7 in a six way pot on a flop of:

 8h 8c 4c

One of his opponents hit a flush on the turn with the  Ac but the beauty of a river card for Stuart was a  7h for the house.

Then more recently he has been all in with AK v AJ TWICE and held up both times, its deffo looking like Stuart's day so far Tom.

Richard Ashby
Willie Tann
Danny Samson
James Akenhead
Barny Boatman

Just out of curiosity ... how many chips does he have ?
... Brian  ;ashamed;

Dan Carter is currently on 28,000 additional chips courtesy of an "at it guy" who had a marvelous J10 all in preflop against Dan's Queens.

Here's Daniel Rudd aka "UpTheMariners". Here's he's just moved in on the turn of a 9s 2h 9h 5d board for 3,750 more into a 6,400 pot against Nick Gibson. Eventually the clock was called on Gibbo then passed.

We have moved into Level 6, Ante's have kicked in and are surely gonna smash up a few players now.  Hopefully they will excite Richard Ashby who is "bored stupid" with his 10,000 stack.

137 players
150/300  (25)

Luton GUKPT Winner Dave Clarke was the pay-offee, calling with errr.....2-2

WOW....  Dave must have been so focused on reading Karl's bluff that he missed the board double pairing on the river. As there is no hand he is beating. (been there  ;ashamed;) Still chips are chips COME ON KARL ;snoopy'sguns;

Bev Pace is OUT, she never really got going and then she found Jacks in the big blind whilst the small blind had AQ.  The small blind hit sadly.

Roberto Romanello is OUT of his second tournament in a week holding Aces. His small raise to 625 (blinds 150/300/25) enticing Ariston to call with 7-3 on the button, all the money going in on an 8-7-3 flop and no improvement for the Welshman.

Marty Wilson is personally commentating on every single all-in battle on his table, as though he's auditioning for Vicky Coren's job. At the same time he's making sure everyone knows everyone else on his table in a way that reminds me of Louis' dinner party in Ghostbusters...

"Ok everyone, this is Surinder Sunar, he's a professional poker player, he's just been moved our table..."

Soon enough though he's silent as they're in a battle, the board reading 7h 9s Ac 2c 3s and Marty picks out a whole host of chips, and bets 10,150 by stamping the stack down firmly in front of Surindar in an attempt to intimidate. It's all too much the former Paris WPT winner, the bet is worth half his stack and he he doesn't want to play. Quick as a flash, Marty shows Qc 5s and rakes in the pot.

We're now on a break before the 200/400/50 level.

Harry Zammit has a very big stack cracking Kd Ks with Kc 3c on a Jh 4c 9c 5d 2c board.

There was just an announcement that there were a few bowls of sweets put on one of the empty tables. We didn't get a photo, but this is what it looked like within a few seconds...

Marty (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=978) Wilson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=978) has a monster stack now, must be bordering on 80,000.  For the second consecutive hand Josh Tyler and Marty (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=978) Wilson (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=978) see a flop, the first encounter Josh bet and Marty came over the top by pulling a tall stack of 1 thousands over the line.  That time Josh passed.

Next hand, on a flop of

9c 7d 8h  Josh bet out again about 3.5k and again Marty pulled a big stack of purples (1k) over the line to cover Josh.  This time Josh calls after careful consideration. On their backs and Marty is behind:

Marty  Kh  9s
Josh   9h 7h

The turn came  Tc  River a sucker punching  8c to knock out Josh with a same two pair but King kicker - OUCH, I hate that!

Chaz had limped UTG with Ac Qc, a couple people limped behind and then the big blind raised, with only 4.5k left Chaz went for it and was pleasantly surprised when the big blind showed A-J. He's made a few moves since then to help him shoot up into comfortable territory.

Steve Jelinek is OUT, the Monte Carlo finalist coinflipping Kc Jd against 8d 8s and coming off worst on a board of:

3c 8c 4s Ks Kh

Antony Horn is building a big stack in between Dan Carter and Andrew Feldman, he made a tiny 4k bet into a 10K+ plus pot on the river of a Jc 2c Th 3h Ahrt board, good enough to get Ian Lindsey to fold.

Hey Tom, Stuart still in there.  No change really on 23,000 circa.  He has just moved tables sat next to Praz and James (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=183) Akenhead (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=183) 2 to his left, Neil (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=302) Channing (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=302) is also on this table who seams to be captioning it at the moment.  Keep seeing Neil raking in small pots here and there, he states on more than one occasion "I got the nuts, what can I say."

Patrick Dolan just doubled up through Willie (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=450) Tann (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=450), his two pair smashing Willie's one pair of Jacks.

Currently 102 players
av 19,600
Just approaching Level 8 which will be 300/600  (75)

Before I head back down to the pit of action, I don't know about you lot but I am really not a fan off flat stacking your chips:

It looks so playschool.

Where as the tall tower stacks I am much a fan of, If only I could practice such towers in comps.  This would mean staying in long enough and actually get chip leads maybe once in a while.

Think Dan Carter is embarrased by the gay amount of orange 25 chips in his towers!!!

Matt Tyler departed a while ago, his A-Q no good against super aggressive Mick Fletcher's A-K on an Ace high board.

Karl Mahrenholz has a £50 bet with Jeff Kimber about getting above 50k before the end of the day, looks like the money is going the way of Jaffacake unless Karl has a rush in the last hour as he only has about 10k.

Nick Gibson is OUT.

Praz Bansi has doubled up after re-raising all-in with Qd 8d and hitting against Ad Kc. Why do I always miss when I make said move?

Dan Owston gets all-in against the awesomely named Costas Kkola (it's £1.29 in my local supermarket - unless on offer)

Dan:

9c 9s

Costas:

Ad Ac

Board:

2s Td 6s 8s 9d

A big cheer for the Welshman from his supporters.

We're now on a break before the last level, and one of the ladies here has brought us jam and toast! YAY!.

Praz Bansi must feel elated at the heady heights of 15,500, going from 2,175 to this in the last 2 hours.

They are on the last break of the night now and come back to play one more level.

85 players left
av 23,500
400/800  (75)

We shall a have a full chip count some time soon after this fifteen minute break.

Also noticed Mick Fletcher with chips, gr8 player imo.

UpTheMariners is looking good with over 50k now.

Willie (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=450) Tann (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=450) moves in on a Qc 5c 6d and forces Ariston to fold, a few minutes later there's a Kd Td Tc Qh 7c board and Ariston is moving all-in, the player in seat one calls for all his chips and Ariston flicks over Ts 8c and then seat 1 shows Qc Qs and Ariston's face can only be given an artist's impression at this point, as shown below:

He's down to the felt, and there's an angry rant directed at no-one in particular

chip count for Ash please Snoops

I had a major part in his demise - foolishly chasing a gutshot down to the river after he had increased his bet size each street. Upon hitting my straight I thought Ash had checked the river as I saw him tap the table but he didnt say check so I value bet 2k chips. He said he was going to make it 4k chips before I had 'bet out of turn'. Anyway he called the 2k chips which left him crippled - me very embarassed to have won the pot this way. (He had KK on a Q high flop - myself J 10)

The Orbit earlier he had shown some master poker against me in a button vs BB confrontation - needless to say I wanted to learn and not be intimidated but suffered 2 hours of needle from the rest of the table for the pot.

There were some really other funny hands too. I bust out on Level 8 with about 13k left - losing my coin flip 99 vs AQ.
Once again another great event will look forward to playing 4 or 5 again next year

I found Paul Moss (Fatmarra) online in the corner table, ducking and diving as usual.  As I stood by for his big blind, he was raised and no chance Paul would allow this so he called, saw the all low flop, the original raiser bet out 4,500 and Paul went all in.  His oppon insta mucked, and it just got me pondering how many players make more moves because an updater is poised on there shoulder waiting for action.  Not in anyway I am suggesting this of Paul Moss's play because that it is his usual move LOL.

chip count for Ash please Snoops

Play has finished for the day. Chip counts to follow. Also through to tomorrow is 'Silo' aka Graham Codd who got his seat through the blonde/virgin league.

72 players made it through to day 2.

This didn't include Terry Arnold who bet 2.5k on the turn of a Aspades 2c 3d 4c board and saw Kevin O'Leary move all-in behind him. Arnold was a non-believer with his errm...8c 4d whereas O'Leary showed Kc 5c for the straight and nut-flush draw leaving Arnold drawing dead.

That's your lot. Play restarts at 3pm tomorrow

Reverend and the Makers - what a band.  Listened to them on the way up, great album.

Yep, made it into day to in reasonable shape.  Currently on 34,700 ish which is, going by last nights average, just above average.

Been a great day and I'm pleased to have been on tables full of well known poker names.  I think the first table I was on was the best for a giggle.  Neil Channing, Simon Zach and lots of others - Daniel Something, a young Liverpudian guy, others I can't remember, but they seemed to know each other and it was just good fun and I have to admit, I was a bit disapointed when our table was broken.   Not much happened here for me except hitting a FH against a straight.  Put me up to 11k and I sort of hovered around there till the table broke.

2nd table saw me on with Roberto, Ross (who I've just found out is Ariston), man does he talk, but he's a great character, the guy who won the Vic leg of this tour, and well, I just don't know who these people are but that's probably a good thing, but another good bunch to be sharing a table with.  Ariston did give a bit of a moan when I checked down 3 way in a pot with AQ against his JJ and someone elses AJ.  Well, you never know where you stand sometimes do you.   He's moaned a bit though, it's all good fun.   I was quite surprised when he called Roberto's raise with 73s and then hit two pair thus cracking his aces.  Don't think Roberto was too pleased either.   I guess the cash games will make up for it.  Had a few nice hands at this table and was bumbling along nicely, then just before were broken, I had KK and a shorter stacked pushed with 88.  Thankfully my cards held (I hit trips infact) and I took another 10k or so.

Table break again.   Moved back to a table with Ariston, Willie Tann, Chaz Chattra, and again, apologies, I just don't know who you all are.   I was on about 40k here and tried to raise with AJ but missed the flop with 1 caller, really missed it, raised with ATs against Aristons BB.  He put me all in but i passed and he showed KK (good pass) and then I had to pass TT in the BB to a raise from someone that had me well covered.  I just didn't want to get into it so late in the day and he showed AK so perhaps that was a good pass too.  Thankfully we'll never know.

So on to day 2.    I came here with day 2 as my goal and I've made it.  Not only that, I'm in reasonable shape.

Cash games here are just sick.  I haven't a clue what level the game I watched was at, but some guy paid £225 to see that he was beaten.  He said he knew he was beat but he wanted to see!   £225.  The total pot was around £600 I think.   Another pot I saw involved a bluff of £1200, when the other guy called, he just mucked his cards.  It's a sick sick game and they're sitting there with thousands like it's nothing.   It's just scary, I'll stay away.   I did toy with having a bash on the £50 game but I chickened out and decided to throw away £20 on roulette instead - I'm such small fry it's unbelievable :D

I've got to check out at 11am, so I guess I'd better get some kip,  The room I'm in is booked out to someone else but there are other rooms I can move too, so I'll probably do that.  I did consider moving closer to the hotel as it's about a mile away, but the walk is quite nice actually and probably does me some good if I'm just sitting there all day.

Until tomorrow  ;stickaforkinme;
