Title: Would this earn you a penalty?
Post by: Mr F on October 24, 2005, 12:41:07 PM
At the tournament on Saturday this happened, bear in my mind it was a charity tournament with a lot of people who had never played live.

Table is 7 handed, two people limp in everyone else folds, flop comes out very raggy i think 9 high?  Check, Check, rag turn, check, check, rag river, check check, Rainbow board no pairs, can't remember what the first to act had, but the next guy, (also my mate) turns over A A.

Later I heard from someone else, that Mel the TD had pointed out that if that had been done in a big tournament my mate would have got a 20 min penalty for collusion.  I did not hear this straight from Mel so If she's been misquoted I apologise.

I have no idea why he checked it all the way, obviously I can't remember enough details for proper analysis.  I just wondered if people had ever seen this happen and if he really would have got a penalty?

from previous posts on here, he would have got spoken to or moaned at by other players and possibly the guys running the games.  They like to see people betting where possible and knocking people out where they can.  AA is a decent start and he could have betted.  I think some places would have just had a word, but some stricter ones may have penalised, although also from previous posts, there seem to be a lot of people that are told in other places a penalty would be dished out with none actually saying they are dished out :)

Had an incident a couple of weeks back where someone complained about soft play. What happened was 'guilty' party failed to put his mate all-in when he had the better hand.

I was playing at the same table & witnessed it, and told him he should have bet the river - BUT he hadn't looked at his mate's chips (which are hidden by the 'lip' on the tables in Cincins) and having played quite a few games with him & his pals I know he'd be MORE likely to put one of his ownmates  out - for bragging rights. I explained it to the guy who'd complained & he accepted that it was a cock-up, not a delberate cheat.

End up I told the 'guilty' party what had been said & said that it could have been considered soft play. He was a bit embarrassed & put his mate out the next game, first chance he got....

This i doubt was soft play.

It was 2 players limping in pre-flop. Sounds like someone slow played AA, tried to induce a bluff on the flop/turn then a scary river came (given it was 5 rags) there was probably 4 to a str8 on the board.

I have checked AA before the whole way hoping to be bluffed at, does this make me a collouder?
