Title: Awards Ceremony Madness
Post by: ACE2M on November 19, 2007, 11:54:05 AM
No disrespect intended to the other thread recently posted but does poker really need an awards cermony? There are prizes (awards) at the end of every tournament.

There are awards ceremonies for everything now and it's all just a money making, marketing enchancing, cringeworthy orgy of sucking satans c@#* for a few dollars more.

Anyone who was unlucky enough to have watched any of the 'world music awards 2007' on saturday night, has your gag reflex calmed down yet? Horrible, horrible, horrible.

Well Blue Square have decided to have an awards ceremony/wrap party after the GUKPT finishes its highly successful first year.
OK, publicity for them, but a night out with a free bar sounds fine by me!

I'm with Ace....
Too many awards ceremonies going on ....usually in lovey land where a bunch of actors ..being..incidentally .. handsomely rewarded for acting.. get to stand on a stage and blub when nominated for some old pish ( to use a Scottish term)

Far to much of it and it's all a waste of time

Is this not a good time to nominate Ace2m for BHOF?

World music awards is an award for the marketing company and not for the artist..it' a "best selling album of the year award"..of course it's a joke..but..so are the oscars and all that stuff.

I am all in favour of annual awards, whether sport or poker. A time to reflect on successes during the year and all that.
Are you telling me that if you were to win the European player of the Year award that you would reject it?  :dontask:

If the European player of the year was a rankings / performance based system, then I think that would be fine.

If it was voted for by a bunch of nobodies sat round a table deciding whose face fitted the right profile, then I have no time for it.

Awards ceremonies are typically marketing tools to gain publicity for a particular activity or organisation.
The minute they are seen to be anything different or more important than that then I have a problem with them.

yes i would reject. if i won a leaderboard etc that would be great but i wouldn't accept anything chosen by somebody and sponsored by 'insert corporate name here', if you do you're just a corporate whore and either to vain or too much of a mug to realise your being used for someone else's gain.

don't get me wrong but things like bbc spoty are fine, exactly as you say a reflection on the year and voted by fellow citizens.

But what about the gain for yourself? To me it is a win win, the company gets publicity and you can quote that you are the xxx player of the year which helps you win a sponsorship deal etc.

I'd vote for Skalie for BBBC Sports personality of the year award.

Poker may not be classed as a "sport" by everyone, but ay least Skalie has "Personality" which is more than can be said for most previoius winners!!!!!
