Title: Bargain Poker Tables Here!
Post by: jjandellis on November 21, 2007, 05:06:20 PM
I might be speaking too soon, but I have procured one of these bad boys:

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Nevs4U (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Nevs4U)

Total outlay including postage to Germany comes to about 120 GBP. His postage to the UK is very cheap too.

I will let u know how good it is when it turns up, but on inspecting the advert these go for considerably more in the UK. These are getting good ratings on his feedback too...

You can get lower models from Germany for much cheaper. Just search for 'Poker Tisch' in European Union. It seems they aren't having the poker (price) boom that the UK pub industry has sparked back home...

Do you know anyone selling nice chips for cheap? I'd like some like the casinos have for tournaments, the one's you can riffle etc.  I have some of those clay 11.5g ones that come in an ali case, but they're too thick and not very 'comfy'

Trouble is I don't want to spend loads on them.

Sounds like what i have, they are much better than casino chips at least non fessie chips IMO.
Tables i have are octagonal fold in half jobbies, nothing special but cheap enough.

Trouble is I don't want to spend loads on them.

If they're 11.5g then they're extremely unlikely to be clay, more likely ABS plastic with a metal slug in the middle.

How much is "loads"? If you want "nice" chips then you're talking about proper clay chips (which are still a mix of clay and something else to stop them becoming brittle) or ceramics. At the top end are your Paulsons etc for clays and Chipco etc. for ceramics. Marlowpokerchips is the easiest place to get hold of Paulsons and Chipcos in this country. A set of 500 is £300 upwards depending on which. They sell via their own website or on Ebay where a search for Chipco or Paulson chips will find them. I have a set of Chipcos from them. If you were at Walsall APAT you'll know what Chipco ceramic chips feel like as I think that's what they were using there (or something very similar if not Chipco).

At a much cheaper price for Ceramics, Pokerplayer magazine this month highlighted the Casino Club ceramics at poker-chips.co.uk which work out at £150 for a set of 500 (£7.50 per pack of 25 chips), plus postage I guess. Seems to be an excellent price for a set of ceramics. No idea what they're like in practice, but they have 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 demoninations with no dollar signs sp plenty of flexibility to build a set to suit. The 10 and 500 demoninations look a bit similar, but I can't see why you would need to have both in a set of 500 chips so not really a problem for most people.

Bottom line, "nice" chips don't really come cheap unless you can find someone selling a second hand set, but they last a loooooooong time (although they obviously wear with use). I treated myself out of winnings when I bought my Chipcos. We used a set of 11.5 dice chips before that. They do the same job, but then a 25 year old Skoda that's still running does the same basic job as a Ferrari  ;D.  And a nice set of chips in one of those acrylic birdcage carriers does look really nice!

A tip to 'knock the new' out of the 11.5g composite chips and make feel a bit more used...

Put a 100 in a pillow case and tie the open end up to keep them in, then put them in the tumble dryer for a couple of hours (turn the heat down to save electric).
