Title: What would you do? Post by: thelodger on October 25, 2005, 12:46:00 AM I have asked this question everywhere and it brings the very best of poker out of everyone who reads it! this is a true hand
1st hand STT We all start with 1500 chips I hold Kh Qh, I am in 4th position and limp in! as does most of the board! the flop comes Ah Jh 9s All pass to me and I pass for a free card! the small blind goes all-in(1500) and is called by the BB! the pot is now 3160, I have 1480 do I call? and why or why not?????? Title: Re: What would you do? Post by: Ironside on October 25, 2005, 12:51:32 AM if i feel i have an edge over the tavle i will pass
if i feel that the table has an edge over me i will call as i am getting good enough pot odds with the 2 all ins if i feel that i am on a par with the table i will toss a coin and decide if i want to play with 3x the average stack at the risk of busting Title: Re: What would you do? Post by: Longy on October 25, 2005, 01:58:41 AM Ok so you have 12 clean outs in theory with 2 to come so you definitley have odds to call. Yet as ironside says you have to consider how you feel you stand against the rest of the table. I am not risking my tournament life in the first level if i believe i have a substantial edge on my opponents, i will no doubt find lot better situations than this. With no edge or i think im one of the poorer players i call and pray especially if one of the stronger players is all in.
In a cash game its a no brainer you have to call. Title: Re: What would you do? Post by: Royal Flush on October 25, 2005, 02:06:38 AM How does the small blind check then move in??
Anyway....against a set and top pair your only JUST gettting the odds....you should not call this in an STT. If your up against set and a lower fd then it's deffo a fold, good chance here that someone might have T8h for the open with flush draw and that hurt's you even more. It does depend though on the payout structure and players in. Title: Re: What would you do? Post by: Wardonkey on October 25, 2005, 02:30:27 AM The position you find yourself in is a very good illustration of why you don't play hands like KQ in the first 3 levels of an STT.
Title: Re: What would you do? Post by: thelodger on October 25, 2005, 09:37:08 AM How does the small blind check then move in?? good point! it may of been the button! I was playing 3 games, I must of been having a :blonde: any how the 2 all-in's were Jc Jd and 9s 9c, but I was on a royal draw a nuts flush draw and a nuts straight draw! The buy-in is only important if you think doing the right thing should be depending on the level of game! which is a crazy notion IMHO. Title: Re: What would you do? And this is why he is top of the STT leader board on UTG no doubt. Title: Re: What would you do? Post by: Simon Galloway on October 25, 2005, 12:41:52 PM Halfway through the first hand, exactly how are you meant to decide if you have an advantage over the field or not??
Assuming this was online, I think the site it was on would dictate. For example, if the blinds go up every 10 hands I might decide to gamble. If the blinds go up every 10 minutes I might well pass. Or you could go into the fabled poker tank - think until you can identify a hand you can beat, put your opponent(s) on it and make the call! ;topofclass; Title: Re: What would you do? Post by: ifm on October 25, 2005, 01:12:01 PM if it's a $5-$50 buyin call.
if it's a $50-$100 buyin, think for 10 seconds and call. if it's a $100-$500 buyin, click call, run upstairs and hide in bed!! if it's a $500+ buyin, what the hell are you doing.......you don't have ACES!!! Title: Re: What would you do? Is it 100% to the winner, is it 70% is it 50%? Title: Re: What would you do?
