I've been playin live cash games for a while now and I'm amazed at how different i play compared to the internet, I'm a losing internet player because i dont have the patience, but when i play live i'm the rockiest of rocks! I tried playing on the net again and was back at my old ways, i get bored and play stupid. I am a winning player when i go to the casino and I'd love to carry that through to my net game but have no idea how to start.
does anyone else have this problem or have such big differences in the way they play the two different versions??

Live poker is a hell of a lot softer. It could also be a contributing factor.

Try playing more tables. You'll find that you naturally tighten up.

Listen to Flushy he is correct, Live games are so soft in comparison to online games.

Also your live players have no idea how much varience affects whether your winning or losing, for example it is quite possible for me to have a losing month playing internet cash, say I play 20000 hands in a month (yes i am that lazy). For a live player to play 20000 hands it would take a long time. Say you get 40 hands an hour (that is prob quite generous), it would take you 500 table hours to play that amount. If you play twice a week say 3 hours at a time, it would take you over 18 months to reach nowhere near long term expectation.

Hi there, I agree with all replies above. You can play looser live because games are softer so you get more value from playing speculative hands. On the net if you are playing say 1-2 NL the best strategy IMO is to grind, play fewer hands than live, play solid but aggressive. Play enough tables to keep you occupied and stop boredom setting in. You need to recognise when you're getting frustrated/fed up and at that point log off straight away. I've found that focusing on my mental approach to the online game has improved my discipline live as well.

Any tips for a live cash newbie?  I'm no real internet cash player and tend to play quite tight when I do so, but I'd love to and am always tempted by live cash games, trouble is I'm a bit nervous about sitting down with hard cash.  How much more do you need to open up?  Obviously if you get blessed with decent hands, then you don't need too, but like you said, you're only getting 35-40 hands max per hour so you can't afford to wait and wait....or can you? 

Would like to give it a go soon though.

Hi there. The slower rate of hands live should only be a problem if you are playing an hourly session fee. Otherwise it makes little differrence because you can think of the game as "neverending".

IMHO there also tends to be a huge difference in the style of play live compare to the internet.  Online you rarely tend to see more than 3 people seeing a flop in a raised pot.  It's more about position and pot odds.  Live it's not uncommon for 6-7 people calling a raise preflop and for most of the table to try and see a flop for cheap.  Although still technical the game is more about the people.  For that reason you might tend to find you play a wider range of hands live and see more flops on average than you do online.   

Except if you are a winning player then fewer hands = lower hourly win rate. If you put a monetary value on your time then the slower rate negatively affects you.

Yes I agree. Playing more hands/hour gives a better win rate as does playing multiple tables, something not possible in a live game.

As has already been said, live poker is alot softer than the internet. It makes it all the more hilarious when you get the "do you play on the internet?" question in a totally derogatory tone :).
