I need sustenance before a long motorway drive

The Jacket Potato is in the oven and I am about to go to the fridge for a filling

and when I say Jacket Potato it was lovingly chosen at Tesco to be a size appropriate to feeding a family of five for a week.

Today I think I shall be having baked beans and grated cheese, having melted some butter first and drizzled it all over said potato, though I had half an eye towards Chilli.

What do you like to put in Jacket Potatoes?


Cheese, Potatoes...whatever next....

Today I've got mashed potatoes and haggis, and was just thinking haggis would be good as a jacket filling.

Otherwise I'd go for:

lots of butter with salt and pepper and nowt else;
as above with grated cheese;
as above with addition of chilli or baked beans.

Got to be Tuna and cheese for me, or chilli beans with cheese.

Both with too much butter... obv.

oh and potato definitely has to be cooked in oven - none of this microwaved rubbish.  skin pricked and rubbed with olive oil or melted butter, a sprinkling of salt, and straight on the oven shelf for an hour and a half.  mmmmmmm.

I have recently rekindled a love for Kippers too.

I'm going to have to jump off the bandwagon now.  yuck.

Chilli without a doubt, then beans and cheese, mayo and cheese is nice too

Agree with you for the second part, but zapp it in the micro for 10 mins first and then it only takes 20 in the oven, tastes exactly the same in a third of the time.  ;)

:iagree: Microwaving first is the way to do it.  If I'm having something with my potato that needs putting in the oven, it just works out even more perfect

Will give that a go next time then.  Is that long enough for the skin to go all nice and crispy though?

Yep, the skin has to be crispy or it's just not the same!

Bit of butter and pepper on the potato then chilli and cheese on top, and a large sandwich on the side.

I am actually rather proud to say; I have never had a Jacked Potatoe..it's one of those UK inventions that is just wrong...but you peasants enjoy your grubby food while I have a nice lobster bisque for lunch :)

If it was RED DOG he'd have quorn sausages and soya beans lol

Microwave first, then oven to finish off

Silly German, it's an excuse to have a huge meal and pretend it's a snack as "It's only a Jacket Spud", tactical eating.

Tighty is obviously the master of this hence having one big enough for a family ;)

ah..that explains it. I don't eat that much for lunch..must be a cultural thing and the reason you never see a fat German at the beach :)

I tried it myself but i didnt cook the potato, i just luped it on there, it was alright but i got bored and threw it over the balcony at a community support officer, this has been a productive 20 mins.

I tihnk it's because it was strawberry.

you tried baking the potato scooping out the filling into a bowl ,mashing with cheese of choice a touch of paprika ,grate parmasan on top then grill till golden..................HEAVEN

god invented tatties so we could PEAL them and CHIP them or at worse roast or fry them or turn them into scones (try them in the breakfast at DTD god send)

if he meant us to eat them with there jackets on why did he have us invent the tattie pealer

Im surprised no one has mentioned cheesey coleslaw yum yum and yes haggis is delicious in a baked tattie.

FFS. I have sickness and diarrohea and have just managed to keep water down since Friday morning. All these threads about food are sick and are making me feel sick. I am as weak as a kitten. Stop talking about bloody food  ;grr;
