Title: Do it yourself haircuts
Post by: Sark79 on December 08, 2007, 01:33:03 AM
Today I cut my own hair.

I got home from work and looked in the mirror and was shocked to see how much of a mess my hair looked. With the strong winds and seemingly constant rain we have been having it is tough to keep longish hair tidy, especially if you have a job interacting with the public and have to look presentable.

Previously my hair looked like Mickey Pearce' from Only Fools and Horses  :D

I have never cut hair before and actually intended to only take a little bit off the top. My plan was to tidy it up a bit and when I get paid go and get a proper haircut.  When I was a Kid I always got my hair cut at home by an Aunt, Granny, etc  in order to save money.  To be honest I have no idea what a good haircut looks like, as long as I am able to wash it in the shower each morning, I am not to bothered about the style.  Most Kids walking around today look like they have been dragged through a hedge backwards anyway.

Anyway,  before I started I had a look around on Google to pick up a few hair dressing hints and tips.  I found the hints and tips articles too confusing, so decided just to go ahead and do it my own way.  Afterall, how hard could it be to cut some hair.

I started by taking a little off the fringe and intended to stop there.  However in the end, I decided to just go the whole way and do a full haircut.  After I started cutting along the left side, I knew I had now crossed the point of no return and had no choice but to continue.  It is kind of like when you are faced with the choice of having mashed potatoes or leaving them as normal boiled. Once I started cutting one side I had effectively decided to continue with the entire cut  just like the first mash of the fork commits you to making creamy mashed spuds instead of plain boiled.

After about 10 minutes my hair looked very much like Kim Cattrall's Vulcan characters hair  in Star Trek VI .  I had a brief thought of  "OMG..... WTF have you done ".   This was only a brief thought though and my self belief quickly returned.  I kept reminding myself it wasn't rocket science, it was only a haircut.

After about half an hour my haircut was complete.  It looks fairly decent, although I am no expert.  To confirm my beliefs, I asked the girl I know who works at the local Chinese takeaway while I was ordering dinner.  She said it looked fine, but perhaps was a little short compared to what it normally is. She didn't believe I had cut it myself.

I don't know if it will be a regular occurrence, but at least I know if I ever get shipwrecked I will be able to cut my own hair.  I need to learn to shave using a Rambo style hunting knife now .

rotflmfao Come on Sark, post a piccy :D

Never cut my own hair, but my Mum used to do it when I was likkle.

I went to Tony & Guys once for a haircut which was nice.   Not only do you get your hair washed and dried by one lovely lady, then you get it cut and styled by another whilst sipping a beer :)  Expensive, but well worth it :D

I make a point of dodging photos, I have only had one photo taken in the last five years for my work pass.  If I need to go off the radar for any reason nobody will know what I look like  :D .    Today, a few people said my hair looked well cut, I didn't tell them it was myself that did the cutting

Dana and I demand photographic evidence. We would also like a picture of the girl in the Chinese takeaway to check her hair isn't awful.

gigilo

lol,  I would bore them to tears,  they would demand their money back  .

I can't dance, but I plan on watching some break dancing videos on youtube to learn how to do that .  Also,  I want to learn electrics,  there are loads of new houses getting build near where I stay.  Being able to do house electrics would make me a packet.  I will watch some youtube electrics videos to learn how to do that as well.

lol Kev

Funnily enough I was chatting to my sis while browsing Blonde and asked her how far she was from Kircaldy, I mentioned you worked in a garden centre and she said "OMG is it Doobies coz im always in there" Im hoping it is coz she can nip along with her camera ;-)

bit harsh. I'm sure sark's tried his hand at that too....

I did my own hair once. I made such a mess of it that I told everyone at my work my mates had done it while i was asleep for a laugh.

At least u didn't go down the flushy route of paying someone £90 for it.
