We pretty much all have young children these days and also are fed up with paying extortionate amounts to get in to the pub. Should be ok.
Title: Re: New Years Eve Post by: Claw75 on December 11, 2007, 11:08:29 PM I'll be spending NYE with family in the most boring village in England.

Ironically it was Wet Wet Wet who were due to play last year. ps I live above the Illicit Still down by Castlegate if anyone needs somewhere in town to crash. Title: Re: New Years Eve Post by: TightEnd on December 12, 2007, 12:40:25 AM I have my kids 28th to the 1st
Good excuse not to have to bother with NYE! Title: Re: New Years Eve Post by: bobby1 on December 12, 2007, 01:34:40 AM Bed at 9 pm and hope that no wanker sets off a load of fireworks at midnight. Hopefully I will sleep til 9 am the next day and avoid the whole ridiculous event.
Now how is that for Humbug?? Title: Re: New Years Eve Post by: Laxie on December 12, 2007, 09:28:29 AM Good thing I live in the middle of nowhere, or you might have serious issues with me that night...as I'll be setting off fireworks for everyone in the neighbourhood.
Each year we get together with a couple of families and have a chilled out evening at one of our houses playing cards and maybe darts. Around 10:00, the adults head to the pub for an hour and a bit, but we're back home by 11:45. From then, the military operation commences. Timothy and I set up the fire works display...we have an order and sort them from small to large, sort colours...the whole bit. While we're organising that, the other two moms sort out the champagne and glasses for the midnight hour. The other two dads sort a round of drinks for everyone. They're also responsible for keeping charge of the kids during the fireworks. Around 11:55 a few elderly people living near us land to the house. Midnight hits and we all do the 'champagne/hugs/kisses' thing then Timothy and I make the mad dash to the field by our house where everything is set up. By this time, the pubs up the road have cleared out to see the fireworks as well. It lasts about 10 to 15 minutes...depending on winds and difficulty lighting them. After that, it's back into the house for some karaoke, drinks and fun with everyone. Around 2am all kids are ushered to the next door neighbour's and are tucked in for the night. Sleeping bags, movie, popcorn and soda...in their sitting room. Adults stay at ours for a bit of dancing and singing and it doesn't end until the last person goes home...usually between 4:30 and 6:30 am. We've had some great nights over the years and as the kids have gotten older, we thought they'd be sick of it...but every year they ask if we'll be doing it again. Title: Re: New Years Eve Post by: TheChipPrince on December 12, 2007, 10:11:02 AM ..........is usually a big let down, no extensive plans for me...
Title: Re: New Years Eve Post by: AdamM on December 12, 2007, 10:15:58 AM Early night but hopefuly still some fireworks at midnight ;)
never liked NYE, even when I was younger. The same people who want to shake hands and say Merry Christmas a week earlier are pissed up and looking for a fight NYE. As a single man you have the distraction of looking for some poor girl to jump on at midnight, but with that gone, I'd sooner have a glass of bubbley at home with my wife. NYE is for young people and Scots. Title: Re: New Years Eve Post by: Laxie on December 12, 2007, 10:30:50 AM NYE doesn't have to = pissed up, fighting in a pub. We don't drink alcohol before midnight because of the fire works.
It just worked out better with the 3 families getting along so well, to include kids and keep drinking levels down...at least until the kids go to bed. lol Title: Re: New Years Eve Post by: Colchester Kev on December 12, 2007, 05:54:14 PM Bed at 9 pm and hope that no wanker sets off a load of fireworks at midnight. So it's just me and my 1 year old NYE. Once he's off to bed will play the blonde tourney's that kev WILL set up Title: Re: New Years Eve Post by: Ironside on December 13, 2007, 10:07:23 PM the local village dance has been called off this year so i will be home
Title: Re: New Years Eve Post by: Dewi_cool on December 13, 2007, 10:12:19 PM the local village dance has been called off this year so i will be home I'm very disappointed, why Ironside? Title: Re: New Years Eve Post by: The Camel on December 13, 2007, 10:20:48 PM New Years Eve is the most depressing day of the year..
Finally, after years of saying "let's go next year" we are actually going to Oz for the Aussie Millions.. A week of holiday in Sydney.. 2 weeks working(ish) in Melbourne and rounding of with a few days in Hong Kong on the way home. I can't wait! So, as our flight departs at 9.30pm on NY eve..with a bit of luck we will be over an ocean somewhere at midnight. (although knowing our luck we will be on a runway at Heathrow!) Title: Re: New Years Eve Post by: booder on December 13, 2007, 10:25:00 PM sounds fantastic Keith.........have a great time
Title: Re: New Years Eve Post by: Colchester Kev on December 13, 2007, 10:26:11 PM the local village dance has been called off this year so i will be home I'm very disappointed, why Ironside? The community sheep is pregnant and thats fked up the entertainment. Title: Re: New Years Eve Post by: Ironside on December 13, 2007, 10:26:38 PM the dance needs people to run it, and the people that run it have been doing it for years, no one new wants to run it but they still want to turn up (only place they cant take the kids)
so the dance is cancelled as i dont drink and dont fancy sitting in a pub full of drunken teenagers that i dont know and have no intrest in knowing then home playing or reading poker is the way forward 7h Title: Re: New Years Eve Post by: The_nun on December 13, 2007, 10:33:43 PM I heard it got cancelled as word got around that some local guy had purchased a karaoke machine and wanted to bring it along.
Title: Re: New Years Eve Post by: Ironside on December 13, 2007, 10:36:20 PM there is a machine for karaoke?
