I saw an advert with Mr.T, whats it all about!?

It's about watching hours of your life disappear effortlessly.

There's an old thread on it here somewhere if you do a search from around this time last year.

Very addictive game and a lot of fun.

Just wondered how it works/whats the idea behind it.  If Mr.T thinks its good...

Sort of a Lord of the Rings type environment.  You choose a race (Human, Elf, Dwarf, etc) for your character and pick a 'side' to be on (good vs evil type thing).

Basically, its then like any other quest based game, only better.  You do quests to make money and progress up the levels.  However, as there's hundreds of other players doing the same thing you can team up with them, trade with them, etc so there's much more interaction than a single player equivalent.

You should be able to find a free trial easily enough (it'll take ages to download though).  Best thing is to give it a spin and see for yourself.

I weened myself off it after about 3 months by not renewing my subscription.  Newmanseye got even more hooked than me I think!

Also, if you do play it, you absolutely MUST watch the South Park Warcraft episode, which was written with the help of the WoW developers.  One of the best episodes of South Park around, and that's high praise from me!

my son is never off this game... he's a level 70 whatever the heck that is.  must admit though it looks like lots of fun

Its one of those games that is a massive time sync. If you have kids or family dont bother.

Just one of my level 70's has 86 days play time on it, go figure :(

That's the reason I haven't played it. I used to play a play-by-mail quest game (called Quest, funnily enough), so I know I'd easily get hooked on this. Unfortunately, I just can't lose that much time at the moment.

I have unfortunately "lost" about 2 years of my life on this... but, to reiterate, it IS indeed a lot of fun.

How much time do you have to give the game to play it properly?

This is a fantastic game, but it sucks up time like you would not believe.


I have a level 70 warlock and we "raid" the end game challenges, its 25 - 30 people working together in real time to kill a lot of pixels to score loot and brag about how good ( imba ) you are.

I wish i could give it up, but its too much fun, one nights raiding is 5 - 6 hours non stop.

Is this the game Elky (Betrand Grospeiller first supernova elite on stars) used to play for a living in South Korea. How do you make money from it?

Prepare for an large increase in W.O.W. players. Runescape has had some major rule changes leaving many players unhappy and threatening to move.

Yes, he was a sponsored pro. It's like a national sport over there.

From what I gather in WOW the longer & better you play you can accumulate weapons/artifacts, The Bottle Opener of Destruction, things like that which give you more power/abilities in the game. Some poeple are too lazy/greedy & will buy them off people, so there are players who actively hunt out & sell these virtual treasures.

Most money from WoW is made from selling gold.

Gold can buy you lots of things, epic items, flying mounts and more importantly repairs costs for your gear. It generally goes for 20-25 pounds for 1000g.

Money is also made from people selling accounts, if you character has very difficulty to get equipment and rare it can sell for alot.

Does the company behind WoW have a problem with real life trading? Jagex hates it.

Yeah, but its really simple to sell your account on websites, buying gold also in theory could get you banned but in reality its also an accepted practice for many raiders who dont have time to farm cash.

W00t, just downloaded the 10 day trial - good so far, but how do I find out where I'm supposed to go for the quests?  I.e.  What direction?  I get them, but haven't a clue where to go ???

go to the quest shop, it's on quest street in the quest region of questington, you cant miss it it's next to this bliding little pub on the corner, open till 3am and they have strippers, it's great, gl.

Ask a prossie.

There is a handy addon called QuestHelper, this marks on the Map where to go and when, how to find items/bosses u need to kill. Makes life alot easier and leveling faster.

this is why i dont play it any more, i got all my virtual gold together and went and thought fuck the quest, i'll go to a prossie, i gave her the gold and she done a runner, sigh! happends in real life all the time, now online, i cant win!

bought this for my son this year spent 45 quid on some box set then to be told that it needs a monthly subscription just like runescape but at least he has ditched runescape

quest heloper is a great tool, get all your mods from a trusted site like www.curse.com, once you dowload any addons like QH unpack them in to the addons folder for WoW, although i think you only get the first 20 levels on the 10day trial, and welcome to the realms m8, and I am on the alonsus realm, if you set a toon up on alonsus gimme a should, i will probably be on my warlock Abera.

Job!! this is more important than a job, Just keeping enough gold in your accounts to keep the chinese gold farmers at bay is tough in this game, every meiho is trying to flog you in game currency for £25 for 1000, its nuts

Level 7, 6 silver and 45 copper - how balla is that for 5 hours work?    Getting there.  Cant' get the questhelp script thing to work, don't have an add on folder for some reason, but I'll look into that tomorrow!

I went to Sixth Form college a few years back with a guy that was so hooked on this game he ended up quitting everything just so he could stay home and play it more. Always put me off, to be honest.

I saw an article about a guy who got himself 20 PCs so he can be his own team mates as he doesn't trust anyone else to do a competent job...

lol saw that, it is not uncommon tho to see 3-4 people duel boxing in bgs though. Its a bastard to do anything against 4 chars all casting on you at the same time :)

Quick noob question?  Selling stuff - how do I do it?  Is it just putting it in the buyback section?  Mines full now, need to clear it down to put more crap in!  Also where the hell do I get backs from?

Most NPC characters that have stuff to sell will buy your stuff just right click on it, the buyback section only shows the last 20 items you sold. This was introduced if you made a mistake and needed to buy it back. Buyback displays the last X items you sold so just keep right clicking items in your bags to sell when you have the NPC trade window open. Ironforge, Stormwind and a few other cities had Auction House, they sell large bags to carry more item, also a bank in towns to store items.

The best place to sell items of some value are on Auction House.

Cool ta. Not seen a bank or auction house yet but I've only been to two towns.  Will keep trekking on.

The big cities you really only go to them at a certain level after you have gone through all the newbie areas to learn the game.

4 of my friends from uni failed their degrees cos of this game. they played it till 6am every night, woke up at 5pm, played it till 6am and so on. dont play this game if u r a student!!! but it is awesome. taken me a year to get to level 65. go through stages of playin it for a wekk then not again for another month or so.

Yep I know its a right time sync this game along with a few others like EQ. I had to give them all up when I did my degree :)

WoW is great because you don't need to play it hardcore to see most of the content, especially with the expansion most things can be done in small guilds by casual players. Leveling is easy and always places to explore. When Wow first came out 40 man raids and hardcore players was virtually the only way to see stuff beyond 5 man instances.

Having broken my MMORPG habit, I am interested in how many hours you lot are playing, say in a week?

2-3hrs a night, but I am in casual guild and very rare I do anything beyond BG's, PvP & 5 man instances.

I'm only playing for 20 minutes after poker at night but I'm suprised how much value I get out of it.   My 20 mins last night went from 10:30ish to around 2am.  I had a sneeky couple of hours in during the day though.  Hit level 13 before stopping last night, made some nice progress.  It's amazing how big this game is.  I always knew it was 'big' but when you experience some of it, it's omg big - and I haven't left my first island yet!   I really could use some transport.  The griffon routes are ok, but I only have two of them, could use a horse or something.

no horse till lvl 40 unfortuantely. wot kind of character are u? if ur a pally it comes free, but most other types u need to spend about 200 gold so start saving now! i cant afford my epic mount atm cos it costs 1000 gold and i only have about 300 :(

Decided to go with a Warrior, a dwarf one.  200g?  Wow, I don't have one yet.  I felt rich having 90 silver and some copper so I spent some!   Copper bars don't seem to be worth as much as I'd hoped, I was hoping my new mining skills would make me an overnight millionaire :D

Well they reduced the level you get mount its 30 now coz as soon as you hit stanglethorn everyone is on mounts as thats the 1st real pain zone you level at where its alot of running about. Its about 70g for initial mount. then a few 100's for next level up, right upto 5k for epic flying mount.

So how does one get gold?  Every thing I do I get about 5 silver for, going to take ages to get 70g.

Nah money comes easy, you earn when you hand in quests and loot crap of dead bodies. Just keeping going and it will be enough. I mean I made 7k just doing nothing but leveling my Death Knight from 55-80.

By the time your mid 20's your getting 1-2g a quest.

What do the owners think of the gold farmers and real world training on WoW? On Runescape they have changed the game, for the worse sadly, to try to defeat them.

Gold farmers do ruin aspects of the game sadly, trade channels cpammed with gold chat is an annoyance, farming questmobs and so forth. however you adapt to it and move on you cant be spamed in a raid dungeon ( not yet anyways )

Virutually all high end hardcore raiders used to buy gold. If you raided everynight in 40 man raids you had repair bills of 50-100g a session and they just didnt have time to farm gold. It was almost an unspoken thing that people bought gold from the farmers without talking about it.

If muppets didn't buy it then they would not be there. I has zero impact on the game now as the place is so big and instances you rarely see bots or farmers.

With 40 man raids a thing of the past, also the new 25 raid content being so easy I would assume farmers will be needed less and less. Money is easy to get these days 5 dailys can pocket you qa 100g in 15-20mins.

please don't, if I started Runescape again I would be on it for hours at a time. I have high levels and in the top 2% of the top million high scores, it would take ages to move up the rankings as it so competitive at that level.

Don't do Runescape, come join in WoW :D

lol at expansion last night. Servers down for the 1st hour then when you managed to login there was about 100000000 people around quest mobs! After 2hrs there were already level 83's on there

aha. Bought cataclysm yesterday evening but taken them til 5am to send a cd key. Time to waste a day :)

everyone was on warcraft, ofcourse we didnt see the one nerd who had no life play warcraft 12hrs a day.
