Title: Poker Week - the Final Showdown. Post by: tikay on December 20, 2007, 10:04:32 PM Sadly (for me) Poker Week completes it's 37 week run next week.
We had a Contract until the end of 2007 with Sky Bet, & it's function was primarily to give some content & substance to the early days of Sky (http://www.skypoker.com/poker/sky_lobby?aff=1062) Poker (http://www.skypoker.com/poker/sky_lobby?aff=1062) (Channel 846) on their Channel, & on Sky Sports. The Contract was completed successfully, & as far as I am aware, Sky Bet were reasonably happy. But it's done it's job, & the situation has changed now. Sky (http://www.skypoker.com/poker/sky_lobby?aff=1062) Poker (http://www.skypoker.com/poker/sky_lobby?aff=1062) have grown up - it's, by any standards - a very successful Cardroom now, & few Cardrooms have experienced the Year One growth that they have. Sky (http://www.skypoker.com/poker/sky_lobby?aff=1062) Poker (http://www.skypoker.com/poker/sky_lobby?aff=1062) have also now recruited "in-house" Staff to make shows, "The Club" has been added to the roster, "The Open" goes from strength to strength, (unbelievably, 1,000 runner TV Tourneys will arrive one night week in January), & other "In-House" Shows are scheduled for the Channel, too. So that's that really. The Production Company that makes Poker Week is Photo-Finish Productions, headed by Clive Lawrence, & he was also responsible for Poker Week's forerunner, Poker 425, which was the same team really. In day to day terms, Steve Meehan (wormster) pretty much did everything except supply the equipment & negotiate the Contracts. Steve & I did the Venue scheduling, & what did or did not appear in the non-Sky part of the Show was a Team Effort between Steve, Compo & myself. We are currently talking to several potential sponsors, & although Contracts & stuff take some time to put together, we are optimistic that the Team will be back together again quite soon. If I had to guess, I'd say March, but who knows? It's quite complicated, finding a Sponsor, agreeing Terms, negotiating for a scheduled "slot" - we are hoping to go terrestial TV this time - etc etc. One of the would-be Sponsors is keen to get started earlier, so we shall just have to see. We recorded the Final two Shows yesterday, in a Studio/Edit Suite, as they are "Reviews of the Year", mainly clips from the Shows, with a bit of natter from Compo & myself in-between. The clips include snippets of interviews with the 4 WSOP Main Event Winners from 2003 to 2006, and indeed many other interviews. The Team that travelled the Poker World was Billy Foley (Cameraman), Tim (Camera/Sound), Steve Meehan, (Producer & resident small person), Rhowena (interviews, editing, Hotel & Travel facilitator), the fish Compo, & myself. We went to Vegas, Paris, Barcelona, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and just about every poker venue in England. All at Poker Week's expense, so not a bad gig for me. I'd like to thank the Team, every one of them, & I've become particularly close to Compo & Steve thanks to having the privelege & pleasure of working with them. My oh my, we had a few tears but a shed-load of fun. To them all, my thanks go for putting up with me, my bad moods, my grumpyness in the mornings, my arriving late, my falling asleep, & my patently visible lack of TV talent. Somehow, they carried me, & I'll forever be in their debt. I just can't tell you how much fun it has given me to be part of that Show, & that Team. I do hope some of you enjoyed the Show, & it showed that, really, we were just a bunch of poker geeks living the dream, making our "own" Poker Magazine TV Show. My Dad would have been as proud as punch of me, I sure am, no matter how good or bad the Show was deemed to be. It really has been emotional. Title: Re: Poker Week - the Final Showdown. Post by: celtic on December 20, 2007, 10:15:59 PM What they gonna do without your charm and wit?
Even my girlfriend watches it and thinks ur funny. Sad day mate. Title: Re: Poker Week - the Final Showdown. Post by: wormster on December 20, 2007, 10:48:00 PM Just to echo Tikay's thoughts. It really has been a fun 8 months, travelling all over the place with a great crew. Poker Week is/was filmed, edited & broadcast in a very short space of time & I'm very proud of the product we put together. And, to add to that, there has barely been a bad word spoken between any of us (which is almost unheard of in TV!), despite the pressure to get the job done. We've really had some great laughs along the way & I wish we had the time to put all the out-takes on You Tube! One of the great pleasures this year has been seeing the friendship between Tikay & Compo blossom. They really are like an old couple now lol. If we get a new series, I may get them to record their links in a bed, a la Morecambe & Wise! I've loved working with you both this year, it's been emotional! Also a big thanks to Rhowena, who not only brightend up our screens with her stunning beauty but also looked after us by booking our flights, trains, hotels & shoot locations (sometimes, she even got the bookings correct! lol). Plus thanks to Michelle Orpe & Jonny Gould (sorry I didn't get to use you more, but Compo wouldn't take any time off!) and Billy Foley on cameras & Tim Evans on camera, sound & edits, my job was made fairly easy by having a great bunch of people around me! I hope you enjoyed watching our little show & hopefully we will back in the new year. See you at the tables, Steve ps This week's show is on tonight, after the Poker Million Semi-Final on Sky Sports 2, then our final show is on next Thursday 28th. Title: Re: Poker Week - the Final Showdown. Post by: neeko on December 21, 2007, 12:57:17 AM I have loved the show over the many weeks from around Europe.
But can you explain how DN "donked" off his chips in the 5 diamond classic when he ran KK into AA and then shoved with top pair + flush draw, on the flop and lost, as this appears as a little unlucky rather than bad play. I accept that criticism, assuming your facts are correct. I never reserarched Danny's exit properly, and had been told he'd "donked off" a huge stack, & repeated it. My bad. I've always suspected it was Phil Quayle - "Bobby 1" - and/or Thewy who got me my first TV job, with Poker 425, which, eventually, was to change the whole course of my life, & saw my retirement plans go out of the window, & which has given me so much fun ever since. So blame them if you are sick of seeing me on the telly, & wonder how an old buffer managed to land such a plum number.......... Title: Re: Poker Week - the Final Showdown. Post by: Indestructable on December 21, 2007, 06:27:49 AM Shame, but we have been here before.
If i can make a suggestion please broadcast your show on channel 425. It saves people asking what is my poker 425 t shirt all about. :D Title: Re: Poker Week - the Final Showdown. Post by: redsimon on December 21, 2007, 06:59:46 AM Pity the shows ending. I don't get skypoker as part of my ntl/virginmedia package so used to look forward to catching this on a Friday (when it was shown as per schedule, which was around 1 in 3 times!).
Does this mean you will have more free time in 2008 TK? Title: Re: Poker Week - the Final Showdown. Post by: kinboshi on December 21, 2007, 09:03:44 AM :respect:

Title: Re: Poker Week - the Final Showdown. Post by: MAF on December 21, 2007, 01:12:35 PM I really enjoyed the show. Good content every week and lots of interesting interviews.
I do hope we see it back on air (or something similar) soon. Title: Re: Poker Week - the Final Showdown. Title: Re: Poker Week - the Final Showdown. Post by: mickyp on December 21, 2007, 02:07:00 PM Poker week was the only poker programe that my wife didn't complain about having to watch !.It will be missed.
Title: Re: Poker Week - the Final Showdown. Post by: tikay on December 21, 2007, 02:20:20 PM Pity the shows ending. I don't get skypoker as part of my ntl/virginmedia package so used to look forward to catching this on a Friday (when it was shown as per schedule, which was around 1 in 3 times!). Does this mean you will have more free time in 2008 TK? One of the potential sponsors to whom we are speaking broadcasts on the NTL/Virgin Media package. More free time for me in 2008? Yes, I suppose it does, not thought about that really. Poker Week was not that time consuming really, because I never saw it as "work", more just fun really. It was as much fun recording Poker Week as it was playing the game, so for me, it's absence basically just gives me a wider range of choice as to where I go. Sky Poker seem to be giving me plenty of jobs at the moment, & they will be doing a lot more in 2008, including more "Live" days, perhaps 4 or 5, Virgin will doing 2 or 3, which I have been asked to be involved with, APAT remains very important & may require more of my time, & of course blonde takes up a lot of my time. Whether I remain in Poker for the whole of 2008 remains to be seen, however. I have boxes to tick, & time is marching on. At some stage, I gotta move on & get them boxes ticked. It would be an easier decision if I were not earning so much from the poker business I guess. Greed is a terible thing! But equally, so is hedonism, & I'm loving every minute. Let's hope I get the chance to choose. I would like to have a bit more time on the "circuit", I've barely played in Mainland Europe for 3 years, & I do miss some parts of playing the better Events, which, currently, my Diary so rarely allows. Decisions decisions.... Title: Re: Poker Week - the Final Showdown. I used to have a "lady" who came in & cleaned the house once a week, but I have a phobia about peeps coming in when the hiouse is dirty or untidy, so I spent more time cleaning & tidying & dusting before she came that it made no sense. So I cancelled her, & as a result, the compulsion to clean the House before she arrived has gone, & the house is a bit, err, untidy now.....So I need to get a new cleaning lady, but I can't do that until I've cleaned the house up. Yes, I know, I'm not playing with a full deck here. Blimey Tikay - if I thought like you I'd never have anyone round!! I hate houses where you feel like you might crumple the sofa by sitting on it. Someone once gave me a picture which said on it - 'tidy houses are for boring women' . No one would ever say I'm boring if they come to my house! Live a little - leave a cup on the draining board otherwsie we will have to start calling you Monica from Friends.! The draining board? I can't see it, for clutter. And there are no clean cups left. They are in the sink, which is full. And I can't wash up, because the draining board is full...... It's BAD. So if I go deep tonight there's no chance of a bed at Tikays then!? You'd have thought as the main blonde dt (http://www.dtdpoker.com/aff/BlonditesDownload)d (http://www.dtdpoker.com/aff/BlonditesDownload) ambassador you would be offering overnights to the travelling blondes. Tighty and I are reconsidering our trip now! Title: Re: Poker Week - the Final Showdown. Post by: RED-DOG on December 21, 2007, 06:00:07 PM More free time for me in 2008? Yes, I suppose it does, not thought about that really. Poker Week was not that time consuming really, because I never saw it as "work", more just fun really.
Really? Title: Re: Poker Week - the Final Showdown. Post by: tikay on December 21, 2007, 07:01:50 PM More free time for me in 2008? Yes, I suppose it does, not thought about that really.
