This is a little insight into the world of "me" and also a reminder to other poker players with familys. Not many people get to know the real me as I have a rough and somewhat defensive exterior, probably to the point that some (if not all) may see me as arrogant and brash. It is never my intention but it is the way I come accross most times. But underneath that exterior is a sensitive, caring and somewhat shy person.

As you all know, my bankroll skills are non existent (at best!) and following a nice couple of results, I decided to splash out on a new motor. (After making sure we had enough for Christmas).

Truth be known, my new beamer was the driving force behind my recent result in the 30G. I was so focused on winning because I knew that would mean a new beamer for me. Selfish? A little maybe, but with the sale of our old car, a new leather 3 piece suite is to follow.

Since that result, and knowing I would be spending the money on a beamer, I have not had the money to play poker, online or live, and wont have for a few weeks after.

Have I missed it? Yes of course I have, but the loss of not playing poker does not even come close to the benefit I have had of spending time with Charmaine and the kids. Something that may have been missing in the past? Missing yes to a degree but not forgotten.

I am not a Christmas person, it has to be said, but this year I am looking foward to it alot. To seeing the kids with their pressie's, and after building everything that needs building, probably spending all day with Harry (5) on the xbox. Its a tough job but someone has to do it.

So, a reminder to all those that play poker and have a family, remember not to let the poker time eat away at the family time. It is easily done, I know. And although we (as the poker player) do not see much wrong with it, by trying to balance the time between the two, others may.

we being two guys who understand each other more than most, the confident arrogant and brash exterior hiding a sensitive, caring a shy person underneath.very similar.

we upset a few but one thing we can never be accused of is of being two faced mate  and that for all our faults is something we should be proud of.

sometimes misintepreted we cant help but speak our minds but personally i wouldnt have it any other way as i myself cannot stand 2 faced people which is probably a reason why i can relate so easily to your personality and nature.

Sometimes on blonde we come across to others as offensive but we dont mean to be, we are just being us, honest guys who say our piece and accept others views as long as they agree with us loll!

our poker playing styles may be very different but you are one of the main guys i look upto on this site for  both poker advice and advice on life itself.


for the first time in 20 years i will be spendin xmas day away from all 4 of my children.dont get me wrong il be waking up alongside a wonderful women just a mile or so away from paul and his fantastic other half charmaine in chesteron, cambridge.

but it still doesnt beat the xmas's i spent with my kids and my exwife for 15 years until my seperation 5 years ago so to all you family guys out there enjoy and appreciate! hopefully in time il enjoy those times again and appreciate them more the second timearound.
no doubt i  wil shed a tear in the morning no doubt because im apart from them but will be warmed by the thought that my kids have grown older and are happy and healthy.

my kids have grown, they're at the age when they  dont know what it means to show feelings, which is sometimes hard to take, so take a leaf out of pauls book and enjoy what you have,enjoy your family your flesh and blood as believe me they mean more to you than anything in the world.


so paul enjoy your xmas, enjoy your lovely partner charmaine and enjoy your family time. dont stop being you , continue expressing your views into 2008 and continue being honest.

Merry Christmas M3 and Charmaine:) ITB is correct, treasure your life and those in it as they may not be around forever:(  I mean I hope they are but you are a lucky man with a woman who obviously dotes on you and is completley in love with you. Whats poker or a beamer compared to that?  Have a good new year and many happy years ahead:)

As it turns out, I haven't been near the computer over the past couple of days for just that reason.  Our kids are growing up.  10, 12 and 15.  In a few more years they might not even want to spend time with us around the holidays, preferring to hang about with their friends.  Luckily, we haven't hit that stage...yet.  Maybe we never will, but plan to take the time with them while we can.
