You can reset it and create a new password, should be a small button on the back.

Are you talking about the key to access the wireless?

If so you should be able to retrieve it from your router.

Although if you're talking about the router password, or you don't know that then you might be screwed!

hi bongo....

i live in spain and had a telefonica rep install the router he has made the password and didnt leave it with me ,this was some 12 months ago......so its not just as simple as pressing the re-set button at the back of the router.?

Every router i have had you can reset, i actually see no point in making it otherwise.

As long as you access the router first and make a note of the settings or call the isp and get them it should be a simple process done in minutes.

Is it the password that comes up when you type in 192.168.1.1 to get into your router?
Try "1234" in both your username and password boxes.

My way would be simpler ;)

Any idea what make/model the router is?

Try "1234" in both your username and password boxes.

,mine's "admin" in both boxes but once reset you need your login for your connection to the isp, usually your email address and a password generated by your isp at the time or what you changed it to.
The isp can reset this password if forgotten.

I assume you want the WEP or WPA key for your friend to acces your wireless network. This is not called a password but a key - this is where the confusion lies.

The password is to log in to your router, if you don't know your wireless key you can get it by logging into your router, which you may need a password for, but it will likely just be the default.

Most default useranmes and passwords are:

username: admin
password: admin

username: admin
password: password

username: admin
password:

(Or Admin or administrator).

Do you know how to log-in to your router? Look on the label underneath it, it may have the IP address and username password. Otherwise, the manual probably will. Do not press the reset button on the back unless you know how to log in to your router anyway as you will need to do this to restore all the settings pressing reset will erase.

Quite often the wep key is on the sticker on the bottom of the router, might be worth a look.

basically ..my freind clicks on his browser or any other site he wants to open...

then a message will appear saying this is a secure network and asking for a password......

i think richeo is right its the key as he only wants to access my network..........

thnx

Here's how I do mine, it uses WEP encryption,I don't know if it is the correct way to do it but it worked for me....

Goto your router page and type in user name and password
Goto wireless settings, hopefully you will see something about WEP keys and boxes with key 1, key 2, key 3 etc
The key 1 box should be ticked and a 10 digit code should be in the box.
Enter that code into the box that says password/passphrase and click the generate button..
A new 10 digit code appears in box1, this is the code your friend needs to enter on his laptop
As I say it might not be the entirely correct way to do it, more trial and error but it works for anything I put on my wireless network.
