Title: Leaving bottles of wine open Post by: Graham C on December 26, 2007, 11:20:34 PM Sin of all sins, I failed to finish a bottle of wine some time ago but popped it in the fridge with the lid on.
How long can you leave these things before they go off, and what does it do to you when it goes off. Thinking back, it's probably a couple of weeks ago, but it was a nice sauvignon blanc, so I decided to have a glass, but I feel a bit ill, and not in a drunk way. Is it likely to be the vino? Title: Re: Leaving bottles of wine open Post by: Graham C on December 26, 2007, 11:41:28 PM sauvignon blanc is a white wine and technically, all fridges have lids :D Title: Re: Leaving bottles of wine open Post by: Jim-D on December 26, 2007, 11:49:07 PM sauvignon blanc is a white wine and technically, all fridges have lids :D Oh sorry, I don't drink white. Just pour it away and shell out the £6.99 on a fresh bottle ;D Title: Re: Leaving bottles of wine open Post by: Graham C on December 26, 2007, 11:49:55 PM I have a few in the fridge already, but I've gone off the thought of it now. Should have done that to start with.

You're probably going to have to call 999 :) lol. It could be the wine as you let the air get to it then kept in for weeks. lol... Now if it wass brandy you could get away with it but there is less alcohol in wine. If it was me in this situ, I'd just eat loads and hope to soak it up and calm the nausea down. Good luck :) Next time share a whole bottle and you will manage to get it finished :)How long can you leave these things before they go off, and what does it do to you when it goes off. Any "leftover" wine can always be used in cooking. Title: Re: Leaving bottles of wine open Post by: RichEO on December 27, 2007, 04:52:16 AM If you drink enough you feel ill anyway. This way you have saved both time and money :P
Title: Re: Leaving bottles of wine open Post by: suzanne on December 27, 2007, 05:02:25 AM Wine takes a bit longer than a couple of weeks to go off but then I drink plonk that probably tastes the same either way LOL.
I think, but im not sure as I only drink wine when dining out, that if its 'off' it smells and tastes vinegary Title: Re: Leaving bottles of wine open Post by: ifm on December 27, 2007, 10:45:43 AM tut
If the germs don't get ya then you should prepare yourself for an angry mob of villagers with pitchforks and flaming torches heading up your street. Any "leftover" wine can always be used in cooking. Absolutely no difference between a screwcap or a cork I'm afraid. Once opened the wine becomes exposed to the oxygen in our atmosphere and slowly starts to oxydize which will impair the taste. However it should not affect it too much for the first couple of days. I have one of those vacuvin thingys that seems to work very well although I only usually need it overnight ::) |
