Title: Tip the dealer?
Post by: cia260895 on January 04, 2008, 11:04:33 AM
I don't play live that much but recently i played and finished 7th in a £30+£3 freezout which payed out £67.50 Should i have tipped the dealer if so how much considering i spent £10 on drinks and £10 on cab fare giving me a profit of only £14.50,the dealer only came into it at the final table then the dealer was changed 2 hands before i went out.

No I wouldn't. If you only take home a bit everything you tip the dealer is a very big % of your profit.
If you in a decent amount I would tip (though it used to be tipping the valets as tipping dealers used to be ilegal) but it can't be a significant % of what I won as that would make it a very bad move for my bankroll.

I see people tipping dealers in a cashgame (in some places that's fairly comon as thecash game dealers are not proper dealers but just guys who volunteer) when they win a 10£ pot they throw the dealer a £1. That's 10% of the pot AFTER the rake/table cost per hour has already been taken. That's just stupid in my opinion which is why I wouldn't do it when a pot is that small.

I much prefer tipping a dealer in a cash game after a session rather than during one so that's what I do.

I only tip from decent pots.

You tip dealers from a big pot in cash games, not the small ones.

as for tourneys, its usually first and second place that would tip the dealer.  sometimes only first.

What percentage are we tipping if we win a tourney?

I don't tip a %..I tip a nr. If I win a tourney for 650 I tip the 50.
