Title: Call or fold? Post by: Claw75 on January 07, 2008, 11:53:49 PM I hate hands like this. Seemed like an easy enough fold at the time (after a llittle dwell), but not sure now. Mid/late stages of MTT. 200 and odd left of 1350 starters. I'm sitting around 7th place with 62k, average around 30k. Blinds are 800 and 1600. I'm dealt 9h 9s in the BB, 1 limper in late position, and SB folds. I raise an extra 4.8k, then limper goes all in for 31k total.

Title: Re: Call or fold? Post by: Graham C on January 08, 2008, 12:49:55 AM I'm always weary about limpers when the blinds are high. I'd pass and wait for better spots.
Title: Re: Call or fold? Post by: gatso on January 08, 2008, 01:15:46 AM as played I probably pass, agree with Bongo, you're racing at best. I want to be putting my chips in with 99, not calling
but what are you trying to achieve with the raise from BB? what's your line if the limper calls, overcards flop and you now have to play the flop OOP? I much prefer the check and if a 9 doesn't flop you can play a small pot OOP rather than the large one you'd have to play if he called PF Title: Re: Call or fold? Post by: jezza777 on January 08, 2008, 01:22:46 AM Bongo?
I like the check and see what happens here you can stack the limper or snap off a c-bet with some confidence. Title: Re: Call or fold? Post by: gatso on January 08, 2008, 01:39:28 AM Bongo? Post by: bobby1 on January 08, 2008, 02:29:28 AM im folding mate, how did you go in the end?
Title: Re: Call or fold? Post by: Claw75 on January 08, 2008, 08:47:22 AM My worry with checking is I've got no idea where I am if a raggy flop comes - he could be limping with anything from suited connectors to a monster. As it is, I'm happy enough to fold to the re-raise pre flop - it still leaves me above average.
Phil - didn't go too well after that - lost about a third of my stack after making a silly call of a short-stack's push with Aspades Jd - he had Ks Kh. Then went completely card dead - table was pretty aggressive so didn't get many opportunities to make moves, and ended up going out around 120-130th for a small cash. Title: Re: Call or fold? Post by: Graham C on January 08, 2008, 11:50:49 AM Calling shorties with AJ isn't that bad. Providing they can't do too much damage, the hand is usually way above their pushing range.
If you check and the flop comes raggy, you can then make the bet that you raised on the flop to try and take it. Overall, you'd be down the same as if you'd raised preflop. Title: Re: Call or fold? not long to go :D Title: Re: Call or fold? Post by: The_Diamond on January 08, 2008, 10:33:28 PM I'd call here. When I think of the standard or more common lines taken by all the hands I'm worried about none of them would normally be played like this. I think you're most like up against AK or a small pair.
