ilol, i would love to be in court if they plead innocent and try to come up with some sort of excuse,
i remember 1 case in liverpool years ago ,i lad was on trial for stealing hundreds of tins of corned beef, the police found an address book with contacts and added a charge of conspiracy which carries a longer sentence, the only way he could get off with a lenient sentence was to try and make the jury think he stole all the corned beef on his own and had no intention of selling it, in the dock the prosecution asked him mr jones what did you intend to do with all this corned beef, he says, eat it, what do you think, prosecution says what, something like a thousand tins of corned beef and you plan to eat it all yourself, he starts getting all flustered and starts spluttering saying yeah, yeah  i love corned beef ,honest i love it, it didn't do the poor lad any good when the whole of the court room couldn't help bursting into laughter,

conspiracy to supply corned beef? surely that's not a real crime

and they found an address book with contacts? so what, that's what address books are for.
or did it have known members of the merseyside underground tinned meat consortium?

i am not giving an example, this an actual case from the early 80s, as far as Conspiracy goes, i am not saying i am an expert, ive always thought from this case onwards,it is to commit a crime or maybe a theft which is organised with other people

my post wasn't meant to question you. it was more general amazement at our legal system. I can just picture to police calling in on everyone in the address book and asking them if they like corned beef and using the fact that a lot of them said yes as proof of intent to supply

He's just lucky he did it in the 80's and not now. Just think..if the guy looked like he was an Arab, him and everyone in his address book would have been charged under the Terrorism Act ;)

yes, i see what you mean,i have heard of another case of conspiracy ,i know he did go down but i was only told the facts second hand. i worked in car factory, this lad who worked there had a buisness going ,stealing to order, batteries, tyers not just the odd 1 it was big money i believe he was  just putting all the stuff in a skip which was then drove outside by someone else and the stuff was picked up later, same thing again i was told they found an address book and it was used in evidence, to tell the truth i hoped the original post would bring a few other funny cases as well .
