Hello all,

I'm doing a bit of research for my own personal benefit, but I think I might be able to turn it into an interesting magazine article for one of the mags I write for.

Basically it is about where is the best place to keep your poker bankroll? For example, most of my bankroll is in an ING savings account accruing 5% interest. I only ever keep about 3 grand sterling in any poker room at any one time as I dont see the point in keeping any more in than that. Plus, in the past I have put money into a poker room, took it out months later and got significantly shafted because of change in the exchange rate. I tend to take winnings out monthly and bung it all in the savings account.

But I know loads of people who seem to keep 100% or at least a lot of their bankroll in the one poker room they use. To me this doesnt make much sense - it isnt accruing interest, a bad moment of tilt and you could lose the lot and you never know if a poker room could go bust or for some other reason freeze your money.

I know a few americans who used to keep their money in Neteller so they could move it around with ease, only to not have access to it for months last year.

Then of course I know loads of live players who are totally reckless with their money. There are guys who walk around all the time with their entire bankroll, I seem to recall hearing a story about a guy who sold his car with £10,000 in the glove compartment, etc etc.

So just really want to get a thread going to get me started. Where do you keep (most of) your bankroll and why? Any funny/nightmare stories etc.

I used to keep all my dosh in a poker account (Stars mainly) but Tilt only needs to strike ones and you're in BIG bankroll trouble.

Now I keep most of it in a Neteller account. I mainly play on Blonde and have a player account in £'s so am not affected by any swings in the $ market.

As a perpetually losing player I don't have a roll. I finance my playing through wages and try to keep a rough track of how much I'm down. In fact, it's unlikely I'll be playing any major events this year as aside from one large cash last year ($30k), I pretty much sucked at every event I entered.

Aye, truth in jest and all that. I am going to do an Andy Fordham this year and play all events I enter stone-cold sober. I believe drinking should be kept to pubs and clubs, and not at the poker table (quite a big change of view for me - not sure how long it will last...)

I keep 20 buyins in my main site and withdraw the excess on a monthly basis into a poker only bank account, from there i shift enough into my main bank account to pay for day to day life.

I do keep an eye on the exchange rate as im playing in $ these days and basically move it out if the exchange looks favourable. When i played on party i use to have my account in sterling which is what everyone should do as party shaft on the exchange rate.

I keep mine in my Neteller account.   I can't really take it out cos it's all in good old US Dollars and I'll get peanuts for it if I do.   I keep a bit in my poker accounts but mainly just transfer back and forth to Neteller.

Blonde has the most money in it.  Not my poker bit, but the other bit because I can't for the life of me work out how to get it back to Neteller!  I've tried shipping it but it only seems to go from Sports book (or whatever it is these days) to poker account and visa versa.

simple..go to cashier -withdraw- neteller and done :)

I needed to speak to a customer services person because the withdrawl screen was empty and blank. Amy changed some stuff and I can now withdraw to netellar.

I have a poker only bank account, but am really lazy about moving cash over to it, and end up with most of my roll on poker sites.

I don't get the bit  tho about not keeping too much in an account in case you tilt.
If you are capable of tilting an account empty, whether it's 10 buy ins, or 100, you aint going very far in poker.

I play on a few sites and tend to flit around depending on the run of cards, and as I play mostly $20/$30 MTT/STT i keep approx $100 in each. If it hits $300 in any one site i reduce it back to $100 by transferring to a poker account I keep in the bank. I only use this account for poker so I also raid it for live games. If I go to zero on a site I will leave that site alone for a while before possibly returning later and reloading from the bank account when its healthy (ie topped up from winnings on other sites).

Since I started this merry-go-round I have not had to move currency into the bank account as it seems to be self maintaining at the moment. There ain't a huge amount in it either mind, but hey I'm having fun within my means.

I've got mine in a structured mortgage bond from us homeloans for degens dot com.  I get fantastic interest every 3 months (although in fact it's a bit late this quarter, maybe I should give them a call).

i keep my bankroll in other players accounts and make regular deposits and occasional withdrawals.

Oh I've done it and not just once..it's a chasing your losses thing (or thinking "I'm unbeatable..let's move up a level or two" and then stack someone off)..won't do it anymore and will never do it again but still keep the money in neteller as I sometimes have the temptation to play at a level that is outside my bankroll and this prevents that.

I am not saying I haven't tilted cash away before. - I have.
But I don't think the long term solution to it is to hide the cash - got to find a better way of managing your game such as a stop-loss.

I think it depends on the levels that you play and the site you play on. there will not be a time in the near future where I need to deposit more than 600$ on stars within a 24 hour period..so putting money on neteller works fine for me.  If I was playing a lot more on stars (I will only use stars for EPT and WSOP sats from now on) or a lot higher levels I would agree with you.

its easy Graham, just go to CASHIER >>> WITHDRAWAL >>> Then just fill in the form and when you get to the bit which says "WITHDRAW FROM" make sure you DONT  have poker account selected.

I had to have poker account selected, it wont let me do it any other way.

The monies seem to have gone from my blonde account now, either you have them or I have them :D

Got a chunk kept online, a chunk in £ cash, quite a bit in the bank and then a new far more responsible me has lots of it in hedge funds that i can access if i need too.


I still think the proper way is a suitcase under the bed though.

Why? My last withdrawl was accidentally from my Poker Account, will it not go through properly?

And how come EVERY time I wanna withdraw I have to go through Live Help cos I never have any withdrawl options?

you can withdraw from whichever account you want, but Graham had his cash in his sportsbook account, thats why i said DONT select poker account.

and i have rigged your account to make it hard for you to withdraw at the request of several thousand players on the network that are insisting you stay ;)

Majority in Premium Bonds. I like the fact my Bankroll might win me upto a million just sitting there.  :) I win a £50+ prize most months as you get on average a 3.80% return. A smaller amount I keep in a higher interest rate savings account that also has the advantage of quicker access.

I live by this rule!

In answer to your question, I keep all my poker bankroll split between several sites - Stars, Full Tilt, DTD & Blue SQ.  I used to use Neteller as an intermediary to transfer funds between sites but withdrew what little I was holding there last year when there was all the uncertainty about the future of Neteller.  However, my account is not closed, so I may resume using it again if necessary.

Another method of transferring funds is by friends on IRC.  Occasionally someone would ask to swap, say, $200 Stars for Full Tilt funds, and we tend to help each other out.  This is very quick and efficient, so long as you can trust the other people.  I've known them for a couple of years and have never had any problems so far.

Just simply on stars, my bankroll isnt huge and I dont play huge games, deposited £25 on stars so $50 effectivley and thats at $565 at the minute although was just at $600 until I made a f*****g stupid call with 2 pair.

I have premium bonds same as redbull, i think the limit is 30k stirling for 1 person. I seem to get 50 and 100 pound cheques pretty regular and also the chance to get lucky and win big. Have a chunk in neteller but blocked my account my trying to access it abroad so that is completelty useless until i go home again. High intrest savings account and usually make the max annual deposit to an ISA each new tax year.
