Title: A couple of questions about Cardiff for the locals
Post by: suzanne on January 15, 2008, 03:43:02 AM
I have booked tickets to take the kids to see WWE at the CIA.

1st question is..is the arena easy to get to from the train station? I have googled it and it says its 0.7 miles which is a 5 minute walk by my calculations but is that as the crow flies or is there a mountain of busy roads to cross?

2nd question..I was thinking it might be nice to stay the night in Cardiff and spend the next day there but I cant find anything that might interest them, the National Museum of Welsh Life doesnt exactly ring my bell so I cant see it appealling to a 12 year old..any suggestions?

3rd question..I would need a fairly central family room (1 adult + 3 kids) as cheap as chips preferably so any recomendations would be appreciated and finally..

..I am assuming there is but could someone please confirm that there is a McDonalds/KFC near the train station to make sure they are suitably hyped up with junk food :-)

Thx in advance

I can help you with one thing...you walk out of Cardiff Central Train Station and there's a fast food restaurant right in front of you. I think it's a Burger King.

HI Suzanne

I hope your trip is good:) You could take some paper and crayons to the museam and do some rubbings with the kids. Ive done it with my  neices and they loved it. The kids will probably find the museum more interesting than you think and quite often they will have arts and crafts rooms where the children can go and make stuff. The last time I went to a museum I made a paper puppet doll. It was great fun :)  What time of year you going? What about swimming or a picnic and game of footie?

... with techniquest for the kids ...

That's what I was going to recommend.

I'd recommend google maps for looking at distances to places as well.

EDIT: By which I mean look at the satellite image, because it's easier to judge distance from how many buildings there are.

The time has nearly arrived and we are going next weekend  ;cupcake;

Thanks for all the advice, Technoquest and Dr Who are marked on the agenda and paper and crayons will be in the bag.

Couple more questions if you dont mind...I like to be organized  :D

Turns out for some reason I cant get a train direct so I need to go by train to Bristol and then coach to Cardiff  :dontask: I have booked into this hotel
Cardiff (Roath)
David Lloyd Leisure Club
Ipswich Road
Roath
Cardiff
CF23 9AQ

It seems to be fairly near so Im thinking grab a taxi and book in first but Im going to be a bit pushed for time. ETA 5.20pm and I need to be back at CIA by 7pm preferably earlier (im thinking rush hour etc).

Does anyone know if there is somewhere near this hotel that I can take the kids for something to eat or should I just find somewhere near the coach station? Baggage will be minimal so either are an option. Also they will need a snack before bed which another reason I need to know what eatages there are near the hotel.

I would PM sofaking but it would only make him homesick asking about chippies LOL

Thanks in advance x

Make sure you have a Clark's Pie while you're there!

You are about a 15min taxi journey away from the centre of Cardiff.  The area where you are staying is mostly retail shops, though there is a TGI Fridays fairly nearby.  I think it would be quicker to get something when you arrive at the train station, as there are lots of fast food places or cafes nearby.

Whilst staying in Cardiff about 6 weeks ago,met a bloke in the hotel bar,who informed me that the hollywood star John Malkovich owns another hotel in Cardiff....I haven't tried to confirm this but i accepted his statement at face value...

more fascinating cardiff facts to come later
