Title: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 18, 2008, 01:26:56 PM Hi folks and welcome back to the Brighton Grosvenor as we prepare to resume for Day 1b.
The wind and rain and general inclement weather we faced yesterday has not abated, but nor has our boundless enthusiasm to cover the inevitable excitement that today's poker will surely generate. Doing battle today is at least one former winner in the perenially behatted Dave Smith, winner of last year's Brighton GUKPT. Also present will be Chris "Sorry I can't talk im playing 16 donkaments at the moment" Moorman, who will surely be a threat to the field given his recent form. We don't have a confirmed list of runners just yet but there will be many other poker luminaries donning poker faces and limbering up to exchange chips across the felt. Good luck to all the players today. A full player count and seat arrangement will be disseminated as soon as we get it. Let's get ready to rumble! Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 02:26:19 PM Ok dear friends, we are all set up at the casino, we have sorted out the multiple threads that we accidentally started and then had to delete and then realise we'd done it wrong, and they have very definitely shuffled up and dealt. Wooo!
We are not starting the tourney clock until we are absolutely certain of the number of runners, but if we were to start it, it would look something like this currently: GUKPT BRIGHTON WITH DANAFISH AND JUNGLECAT Entrants - like probably 150 Starting Chips - 10,000 Players Left - proabably still 150, barring accidents Average Chips - 10,000 50:12 Level 1 - 25/50 Player list will eventually show up, we're not going to type it out again like yesterday because Mr Raab will eventually email it to us and it's so depressing when you realise you've needlessly lost an hour of your life to data entry. Any hypothetical picks for today before the player list arrives? I'm heading down there with the camera... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 02:41:21 PM Hello the both of you! News so far is that WOODY DECK HAS ENTERED THE BUILDING. Also we already have an exit without actually knowing everyone who's playing yet. Junglecat has details... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 18, 2008, 02:59:52 PM As I mingled amongst the throng of players, several faces caught my attention.
Scott Reilly, who finished 3rd in last years's Plymouth leg of the GUKPT, is present as is Paul Parker, who is wearing a typically colourful shirt and dapper waistcoat. (Photos to follow) Hitsquadder Priyan De Mel was spotted as was Chris Sokrati, who is seated next to one of the stalwarts of the game and Brighton regular, Ronald DeBeaulox. Luke Patten, Dave Smith and Ali Malllu were also spotted and the latter has been invovled in the early stages in a big coup. Although I was not present as this hand played out, allegedly Ali was holdiing Aces full versus Adrian Passfield's Jacks full and both players managed to get all their chips into the pot, meaning Adrian was one of the early casualties. A full house is probably pretty hard to fold against Ali... Kevin O'Leary who was in scintillating form at the tail end of 2007 has also turned up to play today and will be looking to continue tapping the rich vein of form that yielded him the 2007 GUKPT heads up championship. A full seating plan will follow shortly. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 18, 2008, 03:08:18 PM 1 1 101 Mike Charman

No, he's not even here, but please feel free to post your own groucho marx photos and/or photoshop efforts. Meanwhile, some poker has been played, some of it well, some of it frankly inexplicably. Almost as soon as I'd entered the cardroom, I witnessed the bizarre exit of Mr Guy Steel (below, walking off, possibly consumed with shame). To be fair to the man, I didn't actually see what happened in the early stages of the hand, but when I joined them at the table, Steel was all in on a 6h 2h 9c flop and a gent two to his left (apparently a late entry so he's not on the list, but I think we saw him having problems signing into the casino; if it's the same guy he's called Hoang) was dwelling up. Eventually he called. Hoang - Qh 9h - hmm, ok, pretty loose at this stage, I guess, but - Steel - Ahrt Qd - ummm Turn and river - 5d and 7d respectively. O-kay... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 03:46:01 PM Another notable exit, this one courtesy of Phil from AWOP who's currently sending rude replies to Junglecat's emails while he's out of the room, is that of Michael Arnold.
Apparently Dave Smith bet 600 on a 2c 3c 4c flop and Arnold called. Matthew Franklin made it 3.5k and Smith got out of the way but Arnold called. The turn comes 5d and Franklin shoves; Arnold calls. Arnold - Ac and the the 5 of something for the made straight on the flop Franklin - 5c 7c for the made flush. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 03:56:07 PM Another hand from Table Last Year's Winner:
The board reads 6s 6c Kd Jh and Koroush Nikkhahe (prize for anyone who can spell that out phonetically for me - Junglecat's best effort has been "Caress My Car Key") bets 1600. After some considerable dwelling, he folds, and is shown a third Six to make the Devil's own trips for his trouble. "Did I make a good fold?" chirps up Roberto Romanello, "Q-6?" Obviously no-one believes him, but the little smile from Nikkhahe suggests that he may well have been holding a full house. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 18, 2008, 04:12:57 PM The early levels of poker events tend to be replete with slightly bleary-eyed and tired players, quietly working their way through the shallow blinded levels until the more exciting later levels kick in and they awake from their lethargic slumber and begin to chatter and move chips about more animatedly.
There are exceptions to this rule of course. Roberto Romanello is one of the obvious examples of this... As I traversed the rows of zombie-esque players, many of who seem barely concious, Roberto's stream of incessant chatter immediately drew my attention... He was involved in a pot with Dave Smith on a 8s Qc Ks 4d flop and Dave had just moved in for 2k or so... "What have you got Dave? You want a call? I can't beat much! Do you have T-J? I can beat that! Do you have a pair??" "I don't have a pair" Dave told him before Roberto laughed "How can I fold?" and called. "I've got trips" said Dave to a ripple of laughter from the assembled onlookers drawn in by Roberto's patter like moths to a loud, welsh light. "Haha, I'm drawing dead then" said Roberto showing 6h 8h to Dave's rather juicy Q-Q set... Dave "Dubai" Shallow was quiet, looking like he may have had a late one (or two) recently. Tut tut! Still, he also looked as if he might have added a chip or two to his quietly growing stack at this early stage so perhaps it is all a cunningly designed ploy... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 04:38:59 PM SICK OUTDRAW ALERT
Again the setting is Table Romanello, and isn't Roberto a lucky boy? All in on the 9-K-7 flop, Lam Trinh turns over a set of Nines, which is of course crushing Roberto's Q-K. Turn - Q - ouch River - K - OUCH. Trinh's still a pretty big stack though, with at least 20k. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 04:41:29 PM Chip Counts For Your Boys/Ladies:
Danny Samson - still on around his starting stack Liv Boeree - ditto Rob Garfield (on Table Parker/Taylor) - 15k or so Robert/Max Wilfred - just over 5k but I'm afraid I don't know exactly what happened. SOMEONE was hogging the camera, but I'll get photos next time I head down. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 18, 2008, 04:46:02 PM Here is a shot of Roberto shortly after damaging his stack versus Dave Smith's set of queens.

Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 18, 2008, 05:30:46 PM Rod u got that parker update! Cheers Khalid He never seems to be at his table when I'm there! The only newsflash I can give you is that he is looking very pleased with himself at the moment. I will hopefully have a more expansive description the next time I visit his table (assuming he's there) I just spoke to Richard "rudders" Rudling-Smith, who is currently sitting on 11,000. "I've been lagging it up" said Rudders excitedly! I gave him a slightly dubious look, as I am familiar with his game. "Really.....?" "Yes! Well I've had a few hands too...." No ***t! He seems in good spirits anyway and has the game to run deep given a few cards. Dubai has a large stack after apparently hitting a straight flush, the rack. He seems intent on maintaining his expression of complete disinterest though, despite the positive fluctuations occurring in his stack... Good luck big man... Priyan De Mel also looks to have increased his stack nicely during the early stages and had his chips neatly arranged, allowing me to easily ascertain he had 17 or 18k. We're braving the buffet... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 18, 2008, 06:46:20 PM Just before we throw ourselves into the enormouos dinner queue, a smattering of chip counts for you guys.
Priyan De Mel -22k or so... Here he is, looking pleased with his day's work so far... (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=7992&g2_serialNumber=1) Albert "Honey Monster" Sapiano has been relatively quiet today, at least as far as I have noticed. His stack appears to have dwindled to 6k or so. Looks like he's been missing a few flops... Sunny Chattha is happy, he won a big pot with K-K vs Q-Q and the hitsquad member is up and around the 20k mark at the moment. Luke Patten has roughly 15k...sadly Paul Parker is down to roughly 6k or so... Dave Colclough just grabbed by notepad off me as I passed by him and scribbled a note out for me. Here it is virtually unedited. "Biggest pot on table 5. 508(Robert Cowen) limps with 44, 505 (Tony Ringe) raises to 1100 and he calls. The flop come 4-4-2 Check raise both the table chip leaders allin for another 17.5k each. Quads wins 37k pot..." I guess this means that Robert will be our chip leader at the dinner break and it looks like that's the end of the tournament for Tony Ringe... Finally, I asked the beautiful and highly photogenic Dena if I could take a quick photo of her, for general blonde norkage purposes and she reluctantly agreed. Here is the lovely lady... I saw him shoving for his last 2075 on a board that read Qh 8d Qs Qc 9c. Across the table, the gent in the red jacket and the hair, one Darren Baxter, sighed. "Were you flushing on the flop? Did you miss? I've got Ace-high and I'm thinking it's good." He calls, and it turns out that Mr Phillips had basically nothing on the flop, as he turns over Th 9s for the rivered house. Mr Baxter looks sort of sick, like a man who's just lost a bunch of chips with Ace-high. Down to just 2250 he shoved under the gun with pocket Eights, but was instacalled by Glynn Rees. Ghassan Elhoss announced, "I like you, I don't want to call you," but probably just had a rubbish hand and laid it down. Unluckily for Wilfred, Rees turned over pocket Queens and with no help from the board - 9s 5c Ks 5h 3c - he's gone.
Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 08:26:37 PM On the not-out front, Paul Noble has doubled up - somehow. Catching the very end of the hand, I find him all-in and called on an x-2-x-x-A board, holding pocket Aces. His opponent, the legend that is Woody Deck, is holding K-2. I have no idea how this came to pass. Sorry.
Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 08:35:31 PM Another interesting hand from Woody Table Woody Deck. The Deck Man bets out 1500 in early position, and finds fairly swift callers in Rudders and Glynn Rees, and possibly someone else although I admit I don't really know because honestly I didn't get particularly interested in this hand until the 5s 5c 7s flop when Woody insta-shoved for his 10k+ stack. With some reluctance, Rudders passes. "YESSS!!!" says Deck. "No," says Ghassan Elhoss, "There's still one more." Glynn Rees dwells up long enough to get through a hypothetical delicious Brighton Grosvenor buffet queue, but eventuall he passes. Deck shows Kh Kd. Rudders is telling everyone he passed Queens...
Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 08:41:33 PM Andy Greekfish is also gone, not sure what he had but it was no match for Tala Shakerchi's pocket Tens on the T-x-7-x-7 board.

Um, no. :( Except for this one. :) Ali (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=23) Mallu (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=23) went out a little while back, most unfortunately (thanks, Phil): Ali and two other players saw a 4-7-9 flop and a Ten on the turn. A which point it all went crazy. Guy A bet, and Guy B moved in over the top. Then Ali (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=23) Mallu (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=23) moved over the top of that, and Guy A called. On their backs, Ali (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=23) Mallu (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=23) - 6-8 for the made straight Guy A - 9-9 for the set Guy B - A-Q, for, er, Ace-high But the river is another Seven giving Guy A a full house and sending Ali hurtling most undignifiedly (probably) to the rail. Unlucky. We think the lucky winner of the 40k pot was either Adrian Passfield or Daniel Evans. Mick (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=284) Fletcher (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=284)'s still in, though, apparently very comfortable on around 35k. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 18, 2008, 09:16:02 PM News has reached me of various eliminations.
To bring you up to speed here they are! Roberto (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=376) Romanello (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=376), the silver toungued Welshman, had got rather short and his verbal acuity couldn't get him out of his predicament. I didn't see his exit hand, but i doubt he went quietly... Here he is in happier times. (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=8013&g2_serialNumber=2) Paul (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=334) Parker (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=334) was also elminated, just before the break unfortunately. The loss of Roberto and Paul in quick succession is a big loss to the tournament, causing its bright shirt and decibel quotient to drop faster than, well this guy... (http://www.familycourtchronicles.com/people/gonzalez/speedy-gonzalez-loves-cheese.jpg) Darren Beaker, Kevin (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=235) O'Leary (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=235), Stavros Ioannou, Mark James, Bran Lenton and Ghassan Elhoss are also recent casualties. Elhoss was particuarly unlucky , making a good call on the turn with Ah Kh on a Jh 5s Th 4c board, happy to fin his opponent Clive Layton had made a move with Qs 9c and very few outs. The 9d on the river was one of them though and a dejected Elhoss was sent to the rail. The battle continues.... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 09:31:43 PM Players are on a short break. We should have full chip counts after that.
In the meantime I can tell you that our current chip leader is probably Steve Jelinek (probably I will be humiliated when the official counts come through) on 46k. Other counts - Dave Colcough - around 13k Liv Boeree - 15k, although she told Sharplea to put her down as 20k Rob Taylor - 23k, which is pretty impressive as he was down to just 3k at the end of Level 3. His new sponsor, Green Joker Poker's Mike Lacey, is celebrating by outdrawing full houses with quads in the cash game and drinking heavily. Dubai looks like he has a massive, in fact uncountably-by-the-the-naked-eye-massive stack, but actually he doesn't seem to have that many purple chips (the good ones). Like I said, official counts on their way... OUT I'm afraid is our Bruce Lee-a-likey S. Wan. Hopefully the guy who took him out lived to tell the tale. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 09:36:46 PM Correction:
I have misrepresented Liv Boeree; she's actually on 19.5k. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 09:49:16 PM Mick Fletcher is sharing a table with Craig Owen, Luke Patten and a bunch of people I don't recognise. No massive fireworks during my time hovering, but I saw Fletcher take a pot off of Luke Patten, betting a paltry 1k on an A-x-Q-K board. Spectacular stuff.
Woody Deck has been going crazy though, massively raising Grant Mercado's 3.5k bet on the 8d 2h Jh flop. Mercado folds and Woody shows 6-8 offsuit. Mercado looked like he'd been Decked. He's doing ok now, after a long period where he didn't have many chips he was dealt 9c 8c and saw a flop 4 handed. It came a juicy Jc 4c 3c, giving Stu a flush and someone in the pot fired out 1500. Stuart flat called , seeing this as an opportunity to win a big pot and perhaps encourage others in the pot to come over the top, but they all folded... The turn was the Qs - "A great card for me" Stuart said, and his opponent again bet out 1500. "I was pretty sure he had a J with either the Kc or Ac...so I min raised to get more money in the pot but knowing I could get away if a club fell." The river paired the Q, and Stuart shoved allin with hsi flush and was called by his opponent, holding Ac Js, just as he predicted. That coup left Stuart on about 24k, which is roughly the same amount as his next door neighbour, Sunny (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=423) Chattha (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=423). Both big online players who make plenty at it! Great updates by the way.... Cheers Jase. Hi Jase, Yes yes, as you can see from those great official chip counts they're both still in. I have sent my slave downstairs to get you photos and some good info hopefully. Meanwhile everyone will be delighted to know that there has been a fight in the casino! I didn't see it but I understand that some dude went behind the bar and took a swing at the barman, and has subsequently been barred for life. Yay amazingly stupid drunk people! All Phil could tell us was that it was really drunk Irish guy who follows the tour although doesn't often play. Oh no, thought we, it's Mike Lacey. But Junglecat has just phoned me to say it's definitely not Mike Lacey. Phil also says it took five people to wrestle the offending drunkard to the ground. Repeat, definitely not Mike Lacey. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 10:36:34 PM By the way, a little chip count correction - the dude listed as table 3 seat 6, Mark Burton, was actually Phil Risley; Mark Burton was table 9 seat 3 and is still in. RIsley's actually now OUT.
Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 10:38:17 PM Also now OUT:
Joel Ettedgi Luke Patten Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 11:05:22 PM Jase, my slave is rubbish and claims he couldn't find them, when he was probably spending 20 minutes telling people that some crazy lady was holding him captive and making him take photos of poker players. He will be punished.
Hopefully your boys are still in, i'll have another look now. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 18, 2008, 11:17:46 PM Chris Sokrati looks to have around 14k or so, possibly slightly more as I think I saw him quietly sweeping up a pot just as I walked away from his area...
Rudders is sitting on 12k at the moment. "Have you played a hand yet?" I cheekily enquire. "As you know Rod, the best part of my game is my laydowns. I had Q-Q earlier (on 150 300) and a loose player raised under the gun to 1400. I flat called and everyone else got out of the way. On the flop of 7s 7c 4s, he pushed allin for 30k. I thought about it for ages and passed. He showed K-K!" "Bad pass", I tell him. "I wouldn't have got away from that one" "That's why I'm sat here and you're up there" he countered cheekily. I'm not in the habit of handing slaps out when mates are in the middle of tournaments, but when you read this back later Rudders, just remember you're on borrowed time.... ...Don't anger the cat! (http://www.doublespiral.org/tasteless/graphics/21/angry_cat.jpg) Ian Fraser is out, a victim of Robert "Call me Bob" Coombes. Jon Raab informed me that Robert ( a really nice guy apparently) qualified for the event in a $2.50 comp on blue square, in which there were 25$ rebuys and addons but he didn't take one. If he manages to cash in this, that will be a phenomenal return on his investment of just over a pound! Additionally, there has been talk of violence downstairs...apparently an upset punter was being refused service by the bar. Not happy at this treatment, he walked behind the bar and attempted to land one on the barman, before security became involved with the inevitable result that the drunken trouble maker was dragged out of the casino, manacled and shackled. We were told this story in the press room so I went downstairs to get more information on this development but every potential avenue of information I explored appeared blocked off. "Did you see what happened?" I asked a member of staff.. "Nope, didn't see anything." "What's all this about a fight I hear" I asked another. "Fight? Don't know anything about a fight?" Strange...It almost seems as if a Roswell-esque shroud of secrecy has been thrown over events surrounding the fight. As I prepared to probe and pry further for information, I thought I saw two security staff quietly whispering into discreetly located headphones. I could be wrong but I'm sure I lip-read them mouthing "code-red." I broke off any further inquiries, slightly fearful that I would be removed to a quiet room in the back where two large individuals would take turns using my head as a football. The truth is out there, and when I grow a pair, I'll go find out what it is... Chaz Chattha who I have referred to several times as Sunny(my apologies Chaz)...has roughly 20k and Stu a little more than that in 23k or so... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 11:52:19 PM Jase -
I found them! I found Adam Clark very quickly, and then spent AGES asking everyone whose numbers I couldn't see if they were Lee Biddulph. I went around the room twice before I realised that he was sitting next to Adam Clark. Anyway, Adam's on around 30k and Lee's on around 15k. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 18, 2008, 11:54:45 PM T Wong took out Glynn Rees just now, Ad Qd for Wong v Rees' 9h 9s preflop.
Board - Qs 8s Js ("ooooh!" goes everyone, but the flush doesn't come) Kh 3c. I am typing this very quickly because Junglecat has further things to say re Mr Wong.... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 12:00:32 AM Double up for Robert Coombes courtesy of our old friend Butters. There is a brief raising war preflop, which results in Coombes flipping over Kc Kh. Some muscles in Butters' face briefly stop functioning when he sees what he's up against, and he turns over 9h 9d.
Board - an absolutely indifferent 2c 8s 3d Ad 2s, and though Butters can be a slippery customer, Coombes has landed face-up. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 12:03:28 AM Michael Bolger, looked to be a HUUUUGE stack last I checked - maybe 80k.
Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 19, 2008, 12:15:14 AM I caught Rudders at the bar drowning his sorrows with shots of some sort of blackcurrant vodka.
"I'm out as you may have guessed" he told me. Apparently Dubai has been a raising machine on his table, at one point raising close to 20 hands in a row! "As you can imagine this has made things difficult for me so when I found AJ on the button with 12 BBs, I decided to commit with it and shoved allin..." Sadly the SB woke up with A-K and Rudders failed to outdraw, meaning we lose one more fierce competitor from the race to be the Brighton GUKPT champion. News of a rather sick hand. On 400 800, Clive Layton made a large raise to 3,700 from the cutoff, resulting in T Wong, holding a healthy 30k or so stack announcing "ALLIN." Clive took about 10 seconds before making what was close to an insta-call for his remaining stack of 15-20k... There was a bit of banter from the rail..."Two giant hands here!", "Massive pot!" and Wong turned over K-K, half proving this...until Layton turned over the incredible hand of....Jd Qd???? An extremely "brave" call, "brave" obviously being used in a similar sense to describing a man throwing himself under a bus as "brave". The flop arrived and Wong made a set with the first card as it popped out K-9-3. However, Clive was not yet dead, needing a T to complete his gutshot and as live poker is rigged, the turn was indeed a knife in the heart for Wong as a T popped out. You could hear the hush as all eyes watched to see if the river would pair...sweat beaded up on Wong's brow as he prayed for a K,9,T or 3 to save his stack... But in true anticlimatic fashion a limp 2c fell, eliciting a bellow of "******* ****" (you can guess the blanks) from Wong, which he immediately apologised for. A 45-50k pot headed toward Clive Layton. VWP sir... Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 19, 2008, 12:52:18 AM Stuart Rutter has taken a big hit.
Calling a raise of 1k on his BB (400-800), he check raised his opponent's bet of 3.4k to 9k or so on a Qs 3s Qc flop. His opponent now moved allin and Stuart insta-passed before his opponent showed the curious 5s. Stuart looked slightly bemused and is now very short. Shortly afterwards as the players resumed from a mini-break on 500 1k, Johnathan Butters was heard loudly complaining about Robert Coombes behaviour. "If he's not in the pot, he should shut his mouth!" he was bellowing. Butters is clearly drunker than a skunk who's just celebrating straight As in his skunk A-levels at a bar running a promotional of free drinks for skunks all night. He was wobbling quite precariously as he delivered his diatribe toward Coombes, who merely kept quiet and ignored the abuse and assorted shouts of "you got it yet sonny!" from Butters. Coombes was shortly involved in a large pot. Raising to 4k from early position, he was re-raised an additional 7k by Stephen Slavin. Coombes shrugged before pushing for the rest of his stack, which Stephen called in a fraction of a second. Unsurprising really, given that Slavin had A-A. Coombes showed the highly dominated A-K and a single K on the turn accompanied by a toothless pack of blank cards meant Coombe's brave journey was over. After his confrontation with him previously, Butters was overjoyed. "Get lost, get out of here" he harrangued Coombes somewhat uncharitably with as he gathered his meagre belongings and prepared to leave. "I'd butter be going" Coombes might have said had he felt like making a bad, semi-jovial pun about Butters name. Tempers are rising, fuses are being lit and fireworks are going off! Seeing someone I thought might be he but with no useful number card visible, I offered Junglecat money to ask him if he was indeed Mr Trinh. He looked at me like I was asking him to tell the teacher he'd wet himself. "You can just ask him what his number is," say I. "If it's him, he'll be 14-10." Junglecat looks sad. I turn to Mr Maybe Trinh and ask him his number. "Ooh," says he. "14-06, I think. Maybe 14-07." "Ok, thanks," say I. Then a second later, "Could you tell me your name please?" He said his name was Lam Trinh. That took a very long time.
Incidentally he got in trouble with the floor - he apparently called a bet while he was on the phone, and his hand was eventually declared dead. He took it well though, like a little Lam. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 01:07:26 AM Woody Deck finds Aces v Steven Cunningham's A-K! No help on the board and doesn't he look happy? Cunningham is crippled.
Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: danafish on January 19, 2008, 01:07:40 AM Lee Biddulph is OUT - I found him lurking around the rail and he told me his sad bad beat tale:
UTG raised to 3k and Lee pushed for 16k. The button calls himself all in and UTG also calls. Lee has Jacks and both Button and UTG have A-K; looking good. UTG makes a 4-flush on the river. Ouch. Title: Re: Bluesq.com GUKPT Brighton Day 1b: At A Glance Post by: JungleCat03 on January 19, 2008, 01:14:27 AM "though Butters can be a slippery customer, Coombes has landed face-up." LOL Then flipped over and busted. Sounds like people are in aggressive moods of one sort or another... Gl to Woody, Stu and anyone not shouting abuse at each other. Is Dubai still chip leader? JC and Dana - Sorry I have done nothing but watch old episodes of Lost today - I promise to go shopping shortly. Forget shopping. I'm so setting Mr Ekko on your ass... Anyway, back to the poker. We have now officially finished for the night. 35 players remain to return tomorrow for Day 2 to join the 35 who managed to survive day 1a. If tomorrow's play matches the frenetic exchanges, occasionally tinged with hints of violence, that took place during the final levels of tonight, we will be in for a cracker! We will be provided with full chip counts for the remaining players from Jon Raab before long, which we shall duly provide for you but for now... ;stickaforkinme; Seeya soon folks and make sure you join us tomorrow. Be good to yourselves and each other.
