Title: What's Happening In Blackpool?
Post by: snoopy1239 on January 18, 2008, 01:38:21 PM
The Grosvenor Casino in Blackpool used to be one of the most highly attended in the UK when it came to daily poker tournaments, but now they can hardly pull enough players together for a one table Sit n Go. Is there a particular reason for the sudden demise of the cardroom?

something's definitely changed there, they cancelled an APAT regional with no notice to the customers last time round

Yogi doesn't live there anymore for one reason, and Manchester players have somewhere to play for another.

still on of the best card rooms in the country but unfortunatley the card room isn't a priority for the casino management. Julie does her best but she hasn't got any back up so it means the general tourneys just don't get the runners. The £30 fo on a sunday gets over 100 runners but the other comps just don't get nice fields anymore.

It is only 2 months ago don't forget that we had nearly 400 runners for the GUKPT so its hardly like its dead- just the week to week comps they don't seem to be bothered by anymore.

The advertising is not good with Blackpool for sure, I used to get stuff through every month with the comps, but not any more, Manchester still sends stuff, dont think its a group thing, and since they cancelled APAT regional there, I have been sceptical of a visit as when you ring to see what comps are on the staff dont seem to have a clue if the game is on or not...

The APAT Regional was a cock up locally.  Grosvenor have agreed to refund the registration fees to the players who played the non APAT event instead, plus the top nine in that event will get APAT ranking points and the top three medals.  So effectively their event has been reclassified as the Regional event.

I've dealt in all of the GUKPT's before moving on. The Blackpool bunch were the best. Crying shame.

Not something Grosvenor could fix unfortunately.  I have asked the players to contact me and I will discuss the options around that with them.

I've got to agree with this, with the one exception mentioned, all of my previous dealings with Blackpool have been very good.  In some ways they were the most proactive of the Grosvenors.
