Title: losing motivation Post by: sovietsong on January 22, 2008, 06:48:48 PM Hello all, i am about to post my first winning month in a long time however can't seem to motivate myself to play. For some reason I am getting bored with poker and find myself doing other things when i could be hitting the tables.
Has anybody else experienced a similar feeling, if so what did you do to get yourself back into the swing of things!? Title: Re: losing motivation Post by: Newportlad on January 22, 2008, 06:56:08 PM Take a break.
If there is no motivation, then you do not play your best poker = losing money. For some reason I am getting bored with poker and find myself doing other things when i could be hitting the tables. Has anybody else experienced a similar feeling, if so what did you do to get yourself back into the swing of things!? yes, several months ago Not back in the zone yet either I don't think I can force myself back, so am playing when I want rather than when I should Financially not that viable, but mood wise fairly essential! Title: Re: losing motivation Post by: byronkincaid on January 22, 2008, 07:00:38 PM I hate it and try to play through it and lose money and think how stupid I am to keep on playing but I have to dig myself out the hole and lose more etc etc etc
def take a break and read "elements of poker" while you're on it. Title: Re: losing motivation Post by: sovietsong on January 22, 2008, 07:01:23 PM I think a break is a good idea, it just seems strange that for months i have been playing all the hours possible and losing money hand over fist now i have turned things around I cant be bothered with the game! ;carlocitrone;

Title: Re: losing motivation Post by: sovietsong on January 22, 2008, 07:46:09 PM To prove to you that i dont have a gambling problem i am going to play more poker than ever!
Title: Re: losing motivation Post by: doubleup on January 22, 2008, 07:54:08 PM To prove to you that i dont have a gambling problem i am going to play more poker than ever! lol - my post was a bit brusque, just meant to point out that we should all be aware of our motivations for playing and these should be based on winning and doing something with the money and not the game itself. Title: Re: losing motivation Post by: ACE2M on January 22, 2008, 10:24:28 PM late last year til present suffering the same, still not really figured out what to do. some times i play and love it but to often i hate it. if you figure it out let me now.
Title: Re: losing motivation Post by: Ecosse on January 22, 2008, 10:38:38 PM It's a good question right enough. What are your previous hobbies before poker ? Maybe look back a bit. Take up something you'd like to try ? Are you always online playing ? Go and play live and get some social interaction and the crack. Everyone's lifestyles and time constraints are different so it's really an individual thing if you ask me. Weekdays at the moment i'm doing my work, pub for 2 pints, home - dinner - poker. Weekends I'm at my local club (masonic) playing dominoes for 20p a corner and socialising with friends - I'm kind'a in a rut as well. Look for other interests - meet some new people. (http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b271/TheBryce/2007yearendpt.jpg) why does he bother with $500/1000 1 on 1 when he's clearly bobbins at it? (comparatively) & who is he? Title: Re: losing motivation Post by: Gryff on January 22, 2008, 11:52:11 PM Obviously he cant always get action at 1000/2000 :p
He plays as The Bryce/Bryce and he's a regular poster over at 2plus2 and a video author now over @ stoxpoker. Posts on 2p2 and is part of a training site (stoxpoker i think). Probably the best limit player in the world online, has now given up poker as he has made enough and gone to invest in real estate, i believe. http://www.team.asteriapoker.com/blog/user/147758/ (http://www.team.asteriapoker.com/blog/user/147758/) (ok - i guess technically that this link is to a poker site but hopfully the "mods" will allow it as it is such an obscure poker site and TLK's history is so interesting to be worth it) (link first seen at 2+2) I guess the me & my mate tag teamed a limit account to mix up the styles would now be "frowned" upon. However - huge respect to stop playing poker and invest the money in real businesses - there are not that many that grown up at 19. Title: Re: losing motivation Post by: AlexMartin on January 23, 2008, 06:29:50 AM Truly doubt he has given up poker.
Also, Look at the hand volumes he has played compared to the monies earnt. |
