so what's this all about then? obv I understand the reasons for running down the clock when shortstacked near the bubble with several tables.

but, I've started to notice a new phenomenom.

twice today playing small field (approx 30 runner) MTTs I've been sat at the FT (paying 5) and watched the shortstacks using their full time on every decision with 7/8 runners left.

gotta love the stupidity of people, long may it continue

they prob think about pushing not worrying about the clock

maybe to try to get to the total crapshoot, where the big stacks are shortstacks to, you stand a better chance of laddering then maybe?

Weak reason.  If there is a reason.  Which I doubt.  The 'stalling method' such as it is is one of the few things in poker which drive me up the wall.  Maybe it is prevalent for others (like me) to tilt if one does this, so perhaps they're just going for the -EV psych-out just for fun, because they are sadists.

Sometimes they even do it when a tournament goes hand for hand a few players off the bubble.  It's like the bad kid in school who set off the fire hydrant so we all had to stay behind.

It's really annoying on the bubble of satellites, especially in turbos and you just know the blinds are going to double to a whopping 8k or something and put you all in where as you'd have just scrapped through otherwise. 

in that case it's a great tactic.

but the situations I was talking about involved a couple of uber-shorties who were doing the reverse and forcing themselves into a situation where they were putting themselves AI blind

Yes satellites are a special case... (brings to mind the guy who always has to say, "Well yes there is a time I would fold Aces preflop...in a satellite (due to total flatness of payout, either Yes or No in effect) if I had 10 billion chips and everyone else in it had 1....")   For maximum irritation, the dwelling needs to be done by short stacks in a regular, top-heavy MTT, preferably around 5 players off the bubble on one of the sites which gives you lots of time in the tank for your difficult decisions. 

Worst ones i've seen are in sit n gos which play usually 10 hands per level. You often get players stalling to try and make the money, no good trying to tell 'em either.

Running down the clock is BAD

running down the clock so that the blinds increase after you have posted is a good  tactic online, I try to make the blinds go up after me on most levels deep into a comp.

Sometimes it doesnt work but its deffo an advantage if you can manage the clock.

Why is it acceptable online but not live?

Ppl have easy excuses online, Bad connection/ multi-tabling etc... Live people will get annoyed and say something where there is nowhere to hide...

Well they are 2 totally different games in some cases, in a live game you are face to face so the chances of getting stick are higher. In some live games the clocks are much slower so managing the clock for the blinds to increase after you isn't as easy or as necessary.

that doesn't make it acceptable..it makes you a bit of a girls blouse if you can't stand the critisism live but online it's all good.."cus the man can't hurt me"
