Let me expand slightly on the situation as to whether we will or could hold a Bash at DTD.

I have had informal chats with DTD about this, but all we've agreed so far is that it's not as easy as it might at first sight seem. We have not "formally applied" to have it there, I just chewed the cud with one or two of the boys there.

The problem is this. If we held a Bash at DTD, what would happen to their normal scheduled weekend Events, &, more importantly, the 200 or 300 DTD regulars who go there every weekend? There is no way they could be excluded, for obvious reasons.

And there, in a nutshell, is the problem with us going to DTD.

Relationships between blonde & DTD remain very close, but we recognize that not only do they have a business to run, but they must look after their regular Members. To exclude them for a weekend is just not an option.

Thinking caps are firmly planted on blonde heads.

what will 90% of the regulars do when DTD hold there first big festival? 90% of the people who play the £50 on a saturday wont be able to afford to play so what happens to them then?

as long as its advertised on the schedule well in advance i cant see it putting the regulars noses out of joint on just one night, im sure a number of them will actually join blonde to participate in the bash just like happens at all previous blonde bashes.

the revenue a blonde bash will make regards bar and food sales will be huge and im almost certain would be the busiest and profitable weekend seen at DTD since its opening.

What do the other Casino card rooms do when youve had a Blonde Bash?
Surely if DTD advertise this well in advance any locals who really want to play that weekend can sign upto Blonde and dont forget quite a few are members of Blonde anyway.
I hope this wont stop DTD hosting a Blonde Bash in the future, im sure they can work it out.

No, I'm NOT saying anything of the sort. I said what I meant & I meant what I said.

I gave an honest answer to a straight question. If the answer was, "no, we can't hold a Bash at DTD" I would have said so, ditto Rich.

The facts remain as my Post. "It's not as simple as it might seem".

We have not formally asked DTD yet, & they have not declined. I was with them, & we just chatted through the seeds of some ideas about a blonde Bash at DTD, which is how one goes about these things in the first instance. And, as is my wont, I threw all the negatives/potential problems & issues into the pot first. And the matter of their regular Members was the first to be discussed, as it should be. That's as far as we've got so far, just aired the possibilities. We have not formally asked, they have not said no. We planned a Bash somewhere last year, & because someone - not us, or a blonde  - had not done their homework properly, we had to cancel, & set the thing up elsewhere, which was a right pain.

As to what will happen to the DTD regulars, when DTD hold their Fessies, I've no idea - it's nothing to do with me, or blonde. But I'm sure Rob & co will sort something.

You must understand, please, that when dealing with Rob, a friend of mine since long before DTD & blonde, one does not take advantage, or assume things, if it crosses his sphere of responsibility.

I remain very hopeful we can have the next Bash at DTD. If we are allowed to, & the commercial terms are agreeable to both parties, (they are pricey things to organise & run), we will. I believe DTD are of exactly & precisely the same mind. But we just need to work things out first, & DTD have their hands full with other priorities right now - like getting the place fully up & running.

I am 100% in favour of it, & so are DTD. I am less than 100% optimistic we can work it out. And that's me with my ultra-prudent hat on. Please be patient, & bear with us, while we work through the issues & logistics.

if DTD can't do it for a while, can we have an interim semi-bash to keep us going?

Think of the golf, the trains and the easy pickings at the table.

I am sure we will work it out, but there's no point in promising what is not within our gift to deliver.

What do other cardrooms do when they host a blonde-Bash? That's a very different matter, that's apples & oranges. Other cardrooms open 7 days a week, & can spread the load, & we agree "quiet weekends" for Bashes. And they get most of their revenue from the House Games - roulette, blackjack, etc, so footfall from a blonde Bash actually gives them table-game revenue. DTD earn all their revenue (at present) over a short week, & have no House-Games, so weekends are very important to both them, & their Members.

And, as DTD might say, DTD have a level of care & loyalty to their core Membership which they view very highly. Read into that what you will.....

They also have a close & warm relationship with blonde, & myself.

So yes, we are all hopeful we can work it out. But there is a way to go yet, & we cannnot assume.

It may not be rocket science, as was suggested elsewhere, but nor is it child's play. We are on the case, please accept that, & we'll be at DTD if we can, & they'll have us if they can. Honest 'injun! I simply pointed out the issues we & they need to address. Be assured - & please trust me on this - Rob has a fierce passion for his Club, his Staff, & his Members, & the potential for pushing them (his regulars) aside for a blonde Bash will need to be handled with great care.

It's, ultimately, Rob's call. If he'll have us, we'll be there, assuming we can afford it.

Gala Edinburgh have a nice venue as well and done a superb job of an APAT regional qualifier I attended there.

BB2 was at CinCins, lets just say there have been better Blonde Bashs.

The Edinburgh Foutainpark Circus is better suited to a Blonde Bash than the Maybury. Its got a lovely big cardroom & a much larger bar & resteraunt area, easily the best casino in Scotland at the moment IMHO.

Tony I know in previous posts you have said that Blonde Bashes are expensive to run...could I be so bold as to ask why? I know I asked this before but dont think I got an answer (or maybe missed it). Do you have to hire out the cardroom for the evening? Pay for the buffet? or what? Im just curious as to why it would cost so much.

If its the buffet I know I would be happy to buy my own food...if its hiring the room then couldnt we all just pay the normal rake?

I know I wouldnt want Blonde to be out of pocket for arranging a live tourney as they are so much fun.

I didn't realise it was rake free for us because Blonde paid the rake, I assumed the casino waived it as you were guaranteeing 200+ people through the doors.

I'd be happy to stump up for the rake and pay for my dinner etc, I just want to come along to play a good fun event with all my fellow blondites, wherever it is.

just to clarify, it depends on venue. Most waive reg, but not all. Most waive buffet charge, but not all.

At every bb to date we've paid for at least some of the services provided

Cardiff cost me a few hundred to get to and another few hundred for a hotel for me and the Mrs, I don't ussually do that for a 50£ tourney. If Blonde were to charge a registration fee for anything I would be more than happy to pay it.

you're looking at a 50£ tourney for both and the HU thing the following day will cost roughly the same. S if you and the mrs want to play both you're looking at 200£. you don't have to play both though.

I think the key is that blonde bashes aren't really about playing for a big prizepool - IMO they are primarily fun social events.  150-200 runners paying £30 a pop still makes a prize worth playing for, and is a more inclusive price for everyone, regardless of bankroll, particularly when the associated costs of travel, accommodation etc are taken into account.

That said, if a signficant majority of those attending want a £50 comp, then that's fair enough, but I don't think there was any consultation before it was changed last time.  Does the buy-in have to be decided in advance?  If not, perhaps everyone could be asked to express a preference (eg 30, 40, 50) when they stick their name down on the sign up thread.

I know it's not really in train yet, but if you need a hand with any of the organisation for the next one, feel free to give me a shout.

The buy-in has been discussed many times on many threads and tbh it is fairly evenly split between the £30 and £50, having ANOTHER discussion thread is not needed IMO.

I was always against raising to the £50 (being of the train of thought of BB's being social events.. general bankroll of a typical blondes) but looking back I think it was the right thing to do, most people would think it proportionate to the cost of the weekend, and the minimum general buy-in for many events. Perhaps a middle ground of £40 would be worth trying, a happy medium for all?

I chatted with Nick (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=310) Whiten (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=310) tonight about the possibility of a bB at dt (http://www.dtdpoker.com/aff/BlonditesDownload)d (http://www.dtdpoker.com/aff/BlonditesDownload), & from his & our perspective, we are keen for us to further the negotiations, &, cost apart there are no impediments to it. dt (http://www.dtdpoker.com/aff/BlonditesDownload)d (http://www.dtdpoker.com/aff/BlonditesDownload) have a standard "per head" charge for "Corporate Events", which would be beyond our pockets, but Nick sugested that for blonde, they'd do their best to make it economiically viable for us.

Unlike a regular Casino, where the cost to the Venue can be defrayed by income from "House Games" (Blackjack & Roulette), dt (http://www.dtdpoker.com/aff/BlonditesDownload)d (http://www.dtdpoker.com/aff/BlonditesDownload) derive no income from such means, so the cost parameters change.

I don't think there will be many blondes who would be against paying a contribution towards the Bash, in principle.

However the practicality over affordability still has to be taken into account for those of us with more meagre incomes, and this relates to the whole cost of the weekend.

Basically that's just to tie in this cost with the cost of the tournament itself, I would certainly be happy to pay a higher proportion reg fee if it made the overall cost more affordable, e.g. £30 + £10 might be a high reg fee, but it is more affordable than £40 + £10

Happy to contribute towards the fees, I can't see why DTD would do it without that tbh.

I posted this earlier in a bit of a hurry without actually thinking about what I was agreeing with.  I'd be happy to pay a bit extra in terms of a registration fee wherever the venue to avoid the bash being a significant drain in terms of the overall costs of the bash to blonde.  I think it's only fair that those attending should chip in in some way towards food, room hire for quizzes, trophies etc.

Whether I'd be prepared to pay significantly more simply to have the bash at a particularly venue, I'm not so sure.  If another venue can accommodate us and give us everything we need (and I think the G Casino in Luton was a great venue for blonde bash 4 last year) at say, £15 a head less, then I think I'd rather go with that option. 

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I wouldn't say I'm 'mad keen' for the next bash to be held at DTD - if I can make it I'll enjoy it wherever it is.  Perhaps after this weekend when I've checked out DTD first hand I may move over to the mad keen camp though :)

terrible idea. yes, you might get some regulars stumping this up but there's no way anyone who's not been to a bB before is going to stump up 25% juice .

come to play a tourney with a load of people you've never met and pay 25% for the privelage.

IMO if this happened it'd kill the blondebash. much better to go to another venue where we don't have to do this, all pay the standard 10% if this helps things along and keep new faces coming

This actually is exactly my thinking on the subject too, and I believe that many more will be the same given a little time. I haven't managed to get to DTD either as yet (also can't wait..) but tbh I don't see the need to have any increase in cost for anyone when the venues are there for us and NO extra cost (or minimal).

I understand that DTD will have an outlay in having us there, and will possibly lose some revenue because of a BB, but keeping the cost down IMO is more important to make it more accessible to the highest % of blondes. It would be nice for a DTD bash, but by no means essential.

£7.25 for tournament juice, a buffet, and the rest of the bash weekend festivities - that sounds very reasonable to me.

If hosting the bash at DTD made the bash prohibitively expensive, then an alternative venue would need to be found - but what do people feel is 'prohibitively' expensive? 

One $10 tournament less per week for a month would, I imagine MORE than cover any extra cost to each person.

Guess it's a matter of priorities.

Considering that Blondebashes incur costs for most of us of a night in a hotel, plus travel, how anyone could baulk at paying a tenner or similar for the bB to happen really is nitty in the extreme.

When you think that Nottingham is fairly central and Brighton is nearly in France, a juice free Brighton event would probably collectively cost the attendees more than a dt (http://www.dtdpoker.com/aff/BlonditesDownload)d (http://www.dtdpoker.com/aff/BlonditesDownload) one we had to contribute towards.

I think it would be very hard to compare without knowing the exact costs for each venue and exactly what is on offer - DTD could bring some additional benefits due to it's sheer size and number of tables for example.

Of course it is impossible now to predict or compare the possible costs, as nothing is finalised (or indeed past the first hurdles yet) But, it is a fact that there will be extra costs in having a dtd bash, it is possible that there will also be different costs at other venues we try to obtain for a bash - who knows, we haven't got that far yet! I'm not implying that for the sake of an extra £10/£15 or whatever that we shouldn't have a dtd bash.

It's not the venue that makes bB's special and fun, it's the atmosphere that is created when a group of blondes get together.

Good point...my original thought was that I would be more than happy to pay extra towards the cost to save Blonde from having to foot the bill.

I personnally would be happy to pay even more to go to dtd as I am dying to see it after following Robs thread from day 1 and its highly unlikely that I would make the trip on my own. I realise I am probably in a minority though and keeping the cost down is more important to encourage newcomers.

we will replace lost customers with at least the same amount than they would usually get on a saturday.
we would drink far more than a usual group of players because 90% are playing the comp for fun thus not worried about "mixing alcohol and poker"
and judgeing by the size of a number of blondes we will eat more food in the restraunt than most.

the only thing that they will lose out on is rake so imo the sums are simple the cost of rake plus buffet costs less blonde contribution divided by 200 (the minimum i can see attending) add this amount to the tornament entry and there you have it.
dtd will have record breaking bar sales (this i would guarentee!) and blonde will have a great bash. everybody happy :cheers:

i agree with ginger that if the bash is going to cost more per head so it can be held at dtd then imo another venue would be better.
and as someone else already said the bash is made by the people who attend it and the atmosphere created by a predominatly group of online poker buddies meeting up, the venue to a large extent is immaterial.

and as for entry fee, £30 rather than £50 is much better imo as then partners that attend who rarely play poker can enter and enjoy the table banter rather sitting and waiting in the bar area for there other half to bust out (not long in my case i know lol)
£50 is to much to throw away for this privelege knowing the chances of going deep in the comp and cashing are almost nil.

there are a number of good venues around the country capable of holding a blonde bash so if dtd is not viable financially for blonde to hold bb5 there without overburdening blonde members with added costs then somewhere else will do just nicely thank you.

Nothing as such Paul, it was my concern that they'd be worried about inconveniencing their regular Clientele. As it happens, we've resolved that. It's pretty much down to money now, & we are talking, constructively. A decision on whether we - DTD & blonde - can make the numbers add up is expected quite soon. Contingency plans for a Bash elsewhere exist, too, as they are easier tio finance, as we can drive a competitive deal with most Casinos who, realistically, expect extra revenue from increased House Games "drop" when 150 or 200 blondes are there all weekend.

More bash news is that, in probability, we'll drop back down to a £30 Comp next time.

And we are looking at innovative ways of paying, or qualifying, for future Bash weekends, involving the blonde Cardroom.

More news as it happens.

im sure most of there regular clientel will sign up to blonde to play the tournament anyway, so my guess would be 200+ runners easily plus guests.

Well, by definition, The Midlands are, in theory, equidistantally (equi-what? - I made that up) the easiest place for the blondes to travel to, spread far & wide across the UK as they are. If we were to hold it in, I dunno - let's say Brighton, for example, ;), it would be unequidistancally (you know what I mean) for all those living in the North of England, & Scotland. The idea was, & remains, to try & go pretty much everywhere.

Luton is midlands, the rest is up north....lol

In all seriousness I think the bash is better represented as a £30 affair than a £50 one. These sums are pocket change change for all the regulars with their rolls, but £50 is a lot to a large number of blondes and takes them out of the comfort zone.  Whlie fine for normal tourneys it goes against the spirit of the blonde bashes.
With regards to venue, i'm of the opinion that we shouldn't pay more just to have it at DTD, even though i'm also very keen to play there. Don't have any issues with contributing to costs per se though.
Whilst i'm selfish in saying I would like a bash in Brighton (closest venue to me) to says it's nearly in France and notts is central is irrelevant. Whats to say it's not a choice of north Scotlandshire or notts next time!

i agree i would much prefer a smaller bash of regularposters but this wont happen. wherever its held a number of locals will sign up to attend and anyway half my footie team are not regular posters but are still blondites.

personally im not to fussed where it is and would prefer if it was further from home as imo having bb4 on my doorstep was the least enjoyable for me.

From a perspective of someone who has never been to a BB and would dearly like to go ..
I would be travelling (+ wife)
I will be staying in a hotel (+ wife)
I will be playing (+wife)

So a £30 buy in makes good sense to me  with a combined buy in of £60 rather than £80 or £100..
I gather from reading the thread that a hotel is the wisest move and living on the Cambs/Beds border its almost a requirement
All in all an expensive weekend but a weekend that would be a social event rather than a pure poker event..

Western is very good for me, and there's a travellodge right next door (well a few down)

Perhaps not the most glamorous of locations tbh

As much as I loved dtd the one and only time I have been there, I dont think Blonde or Blondes should have to pay more to have it there.

Cardiff was my first bash (so up north for the next one please   ;) ) and the atmosphere was fantastic, getting to finally put a face to the forum names, making friendships which have continued on to playing weekly home games, meeting the old man off the telly, sitting down on the craziest STT i have ever seen in my life (tighty), getting to set up and play the longest STT's of my life for £10 with the Bristol lot, seeing the luckbox winning, all things that made the weekend very enjoyable.

The bash should not cost the earth, and the weekend is the weekend because of blondes getting together not the venue IMO..

(PS) As someone who used to organise events (be it abroad) I still cannot understand why blonde have to pay for the bash, or have large overheads. If i was taking 150 odd people to a venue who will drink, eat and possibly gamble all weekend then I would have thought a venue would be bending over backwards to have them..

While im here Sats in the bash on blonde would be a very good idea IMO..

Personally I think the next bash should be at dtd as so many blondes followed Rob's diary from the start. I can't so why accomodating the blondes for one weekend should be an issue, aren't they accomodating a bunch of students this w/e. In reality the bar & food bill would far exceed their normal taking that it would make commercial sense for dtd to hold a blonde bash.

I do however think subsequent bashes should be moved around and the two main parts of the country not yet to hold a bash are the north and south. For the north I would be happy with either Newcastle or Blackpool and in the south either Brighton or Southampton. London I suspect would be to expensive as an option considering the cost of hotels.

I wasnt going to say anything but I was also aware of the UPL 4 Nations that involves students from all over the county which starts at 12 noon on 9th Feb? This event has been advertised for a long time...sigh

a month ago now i did via pm speak to tighty suggesting that maybe i could help assemble a group of regular blondes that are keen on a bash to organise and arrange future blonde bashes.
i thought seing as tikay, tighty and the rest are so busy on here and elsewhere that this might be a good suggestion but obviously not.

I can assure you I want a bash, and as soon as possible. That's my stance and as far as I can see all the other mods and staff want exactly that.

Blonde Bashes are GREAT and loads of fun and nobody wants Blonde to be out of pocket or have anyone working there bollox off trying to organise it.

I reply to ALL my PM's, though sometimes slowly.

I have many PM's awaiting replies from me, but none on the matter of a blonde Bash. I have no unanswered PM's from ITB on the matter, but Rich & I discuss this several times a week, & we have communicated all there is to tell on the thread.

I, & Rich, have honestly & fully kept everyone up to date with the situation. We said we were in negotiations - this remains the case. I met with several individuals last week again, the Meet lasted nearly an hour, & have exchanged quite a number of e-Mails on the matter, & Rich is involved in the discussions with the same people now.

It is currently "with them".

As soon as there is some progress, we will let everyone know.

Currently, we are working on a number of issues relative to the next Bash; finance - do-able; venue - preferences & desire by the Venue & blonde all agreed; & most difficult of all, date. It's very difficut to find a date that best fits all parties, April is just about impossible, & May is "thin".

But we are making progress.

We hope to continue with the tradition that blonde Bashes are free to all Members.

Three Meets/Chats & numerous e-Mails have taken place/been exchanged in the last 7 days, & I'm hopeful we are now almost there.

As we always stated, as soon as the Date & Venue are agreed, we will let everyone know.

Doing a bad deal quickly is no use to anyone. We think we've cut a good Deal which is cost-effective & affordable, at a Venue the blondes will find acceptable.

We were given a bunch of available dates in the last few days, these are now going back & forth, as both parties try to nail it down.

We are quite keen to select a date that will enable all of the Updaters & Staff to attend, & that's awkward. I'm sure you understand & agree with our desire to do our best ensure the Staff are able to attend.

Just been reading some of the old bash threads looks like great fun. Hope to be able to attend the next one should be a right laugh

Word of advice avoid the casino like the plague (especially if drunk) theres some antiquated Queensland law meaning theres no NL and the limit game usually puts me on tilt after one orbit. The biggest cheer of the night is if the pot limit game gets going. :)
