Title: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: jizzemm on January 28, 2008, 04:22:26 PM from BBC website
Wise quits Leeds for Magpies role Leeds boss Dennis Wise Wise has worked wonders this season at Leeds Leeds United have agreed to let manager Dennis Wise join Newcastle in an as yet unspecified role. Wise, 41, will join the club on Tuesday and will work under Kevin Keegan, who returned for a second spell as Magpies manager earlier this month. A club statement said: "We have agreed a compensation package with Newcastle for the services of Dennis Wise. "He will part with the club on Tuesday after completing preparations for the game at Southend on Tuesday." The statement added: "Newcastle had approached us for permission to speak with Dennis on Friday and since then things have happened very quickly." Newcastle great Alan Shearer held talks with Keegan last week but has made it clear he will not return to St James' Park as his number two. Wise played for England under Keegan and has enhanced his standing at Leeds. The former Chelsea captain has guided his team into play-off contention in League One despite them starting the season on minus 15 points. That penalty followed their going into administration last season and being relegated, and money remains tight at Elland Road. Keegan himself would not be drawn on the subject of Wise at a Newcastle media briefing on Monday. "Obviously, there are going to be some moves at this club, but I think the chairman (Chris Mort) has really got to come out and say what that's all about later this week." It is the second time this season that Leeds chairman Ken Bates has lost a member of his managerial team to a Premier League club following assistant manager Gus Poyet's move to Tottenham earlier in the season. Did not see that one coming Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: TightEnd on January 28, 2008, 04:23:36 PM Odd.

Gobboboy: I don't really have a style of play. I adapt to the table around me, because every decision you make at the table is an independent decision. Im also looking at moving into soccer management with a small team in the uk called leeds united Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Acidmouse on January 28, 2008, 05:20:29 PM I am surprised tbh, but then again I don't think its necessarily a bad thing for Leeds. We need a kick start and to push on to get automatic promotion which seems no team wants to take atm.
He always was a shitster though. Bets on when Ironside posts Leeds joke? 1/2 within 5mins. Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Horneris on January 28, 2008, 05:21:56 PM Chelsea Scumbag.

Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Acidmouse on January 28, 2008, 05:23:48 PM Coleman I heard over the weekend when this story first leaked out. We will see.
Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Horneris on January 28, 2008, 05:31:13 PM Probably an ex Leeds player.
Lots of the names on their are a bit unrealistic tho imo. Martin Allen sticks out at 16s. Youd know him better i expect tighty from his time at Liecteser, but did a good job at Brentford (i think) in this league and isnt currently employed. Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: kinboshi on January 28, 2008, 05:33:11 PM Coleman would be decent for you. Garry Mac is a legend, and I'm sure you'd be happy with him?
Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: sledge13 on January 28, 2008, 05:42:51 PM Vinny Jones?
Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Karabiner on January 28, 2008, 06:14:32 PM Taxi for Wise rotflmfao Do they charge danger money as an "extra" on the meter ? Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: jizzemm on January 28, 2008, 06:21:55 PM I like the thought of Fat Sam taking this job, not sure Leeds could afford him and his army but might be worth a little punt..
Dreary O'Leary as an outside bet.. lmao bring the good times back.. Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: JoeStrummer on January 28, 2008, 08:51:52 PM Micky Adams will be named manager before the weekend.
Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Colchester Kev on January 28, 2008, 09:35:07 PM you are getting neil warnock LOL
Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: TightEnd on January 28, 2008, 09:54:14 PM Probably an ex Leeds player. Lots of the names on their are a bit unrealistic tho imo. Allen is toxic/unemployable PM if you need details Gary McAllister? decent option? Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Acidmouse on January 28, 2008, 10:46:42 PM Martin Allen I agree there is no way that man can manage players above 2nd div. Bully boy school tactics does not work in todays age of player power.
I would like someone with a decent track record, Micky Adams has proved it at this level sounds a good shout. Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: NoflopsHomer on January 28, 2008, 11:40:18 PM Very surprised, but then Newcastle have a history of employing the people they have previously slagged off to the hilt. Having said that, Leeds have done wonders this season, I'm guessing Keegan believes Wise will be his long-term replacement.
Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: portfolio on January 29, 2008, 12:31:34 AM bonkers.
Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: ChipRich on January 29, 2008, 06:20:49 AM Billly Davies or Chris Coleman are best options imo.
Dunno if Coleman will go back to League 1 though after being at Fulham and Sociedad. Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Horneris on January 29, 2008, 01:56:35 PM Gary Mac gets it.
Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: kinboshi on January 29, 2008, 02:22:04 PM Gary Mac gets it. Heard he's been in talks. Is it a done deal? You've done well there if it is. Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: TightEnd on January 29, 2008, 02:24:37 PM class guy. Hope it works well
Loved seeing him play for us before he went on to Leeds and Liverpool too. Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Horneris on January 29, 2008, 02:34:38 PM Not a done deal, but weve suspended the betting after he was backed in from 5/2 to 1/6.
And hes been in Monte Carlo with Ken Bates with talks apparently at an advanced stage. The fans would b very happy with this appointment. Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Horneris on January 29, 2008, 02:43:32 PM Ok, now its a done deal.
Shib It. Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: kinboshi on January 29, 2008, 05:17:58 PM Just been announced on Sky Sports.

Are there any football fans who don't like him? Must be one of the nicest fellas in the game. Great player too. Not sure how great a manager he is, but the players will certainly respect him. Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Colchester Kev on January 29, 2008, 05:32:02 PM I liked him better after he missed that penalty against england ;)

Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Rooky9 on January 29, 2008, 09:08:05 PM I don't think Everton fans were too keen on him after he pinched 15 yards to score the winning free kick in the last minute of the derby!

That one? It was genius. He'd taken one 10 minutes earlier, and put it towards the far post and Sami Hyypia. With that one, he again pointed to Sami to get to the far post. That goal made Liverpool's season that year. Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Rooky9 on January 29, 2008, 09:30:12 PM Thats the one. The foul was virtually on the half way line!! Quality all the same.
Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: kinboshi on January 29, 2008, 09:32:33 PM Thats the one. The foul was virtually on the half way line!! Quality all the same. So was the free kick ;) Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Rooky9 on January 29, 2008, 09:39:19 PM Thats the one. The foul was virtually on the half way line!! Quality all the same. So was the free kick ;) I mean within sight of it!! Alan Hansen would have had a field day with that, what the hell the defence was holding a line on the penalty spot - caused all the confusion. Its a cracking appointment for Leeds. He did a great job with Coventry before having to leave. I live and work in Leeds now and don't know anyone who is dissapointed to see Wise leave. Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: kinboshi on January 29, 2008, 09:45:50 PM My Dad's a Leeds fan (has been since he was 7 - that's over 70 years!), and he's delighted.
He was excellent at Leeds (Gary Mac that is, not my old man!), and when he came to Liverpool it was in the twilight of his career, but his class was evident. He also made a massive impression on Gerrard. Apparently he is one of the biggest influences on Gerrard and the way he has decided to conduct himself and live as a professional footballer. Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Karabiner on January 30, 2008, 08:37:06 AM Was it my imagination or did Kevin Keegan not seem exactly thrilled by the news that Wise is joining him ?
Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: kinboshi on January 30, 2008, 09:22:57 AM Heard him on the radio this morning, and this is from the BBC site. He didn't sound as though he was too happy with it at all, and it certainly didn't sound as though he knew Wise would be brought in.
Quote Wise has been brought in to assist the board on football matters, and Keegan has moved to dispel any confusion over the hierarchical structure of the club. He said: "I am all for the changes and I approve of them. They want someone on the board who understands football, and Dennis understands football very well. "It will work very well. Dennis reports to me - the chain is established." Magpies chairman Chris Mort has stressed that Wise, 41, will have no day-to-day involvement with the playing squad, but will concentrate on areas such as player recruitment and the development of the academy. And Keegan - who saw Newcastle lose 3-0 at Arsenal in the Premier League on Tuesday, a repeat of the sides' FA Cup result three days earlier - believes the policy can pay dividends. He said: "The club has become slightly fragmented. From my point of view, it's a positive thing - provided I get all the help I need. "I know what Dennis is going to do, and the idea in principle is good - to look for new players, to bring youngsters through and do things which our academy isn't doing so much at the moment." Keegan also revealed he was involved in the appointment after speaking to owner Mike Ashley before he returned as manager. "I knew about it. It's not a surprise to me, it might be to other people," Keegan told BBC Radio 5 live. "Two or three names were given to me when I first sat down and talked about the job with the owner. One of them was Dennis. "I know Dennis. I know he's intelligent. I know his job here is to help me. He's on my side. "How can any manager be against someone who is going to come to the club to try to bring in talent? "It's right for this football club. A lot of people outside might be shocked about it. I think in the long term it's the right decision. It's something that needs to be done." Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Rooky9 on January 30, 2008, 01:16:23 PM Haven't seen him speaking about it but I wouldnt really try to shape the quotes from the BBC into anything too negative. He was aware of the Chairman's plans and took the job on in that knowledge. Seems like some press are still looking for further stories. Only time really really tell what its all about and how it'll work out - the main thing is that Wise won't be dealing with the coaching/managing.
Title: Re: Dennis Wise to Newcastle Post by: Karabiner on January 30, 2008, 01:38:34 PM I saw him interviewed on Sky after the game last night when Wise's appointment came up in the conversation.
It was Keegan's apparent lack of his usual enthusiasm which got me thinking that all might not be rosy.... |
