Title: Songs that both uplift and make you feel like crying too.
Post by: bobby1 on January 28, 2008, 07:38:50 PM
Does that make sense?

I've heard a version of Somewhere over the Rainbow on quite a few TV shows recently and found this clip. Its actually a medley of Somewhere over the rainbow and Wonderful world.I don't know why but it makes me feel really happy but also sad too.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=2A2Jt4WOxN8

Does anyine have a song that makes them feel the same?

Whole of the Moon - The Waterboys.

Used to love the song, and then it was played at the funeral of a friend who died when we were in sixth-form.

"do you hear the people sing", when they sing it at the very end of Les Miserables.

Traditional

I am a freeborn man of the traveling people
Got no fixed abode, with nomads I am numbered
Country lanes and byways were always my ways
Never fancied being lumbered

O we knew the woods, all the resting places
And the small birds sang when wintertime was over
Then we'd pack our load and be on the road
They were good old times for the rover

There was open ground where a man could linger
Stay a week or two for time was not your master
Then away you'd jog with your horse and dog
Nice and easy, no need to go faster

Now and then you'd meet up with other travelers
Hear the news or else swap family information
At the country fairs, we'd be meeting there
All the people of the traveling nation

I've made willow creels and the heather beesom
I've even done some begging and some hawking
And I've lain there spent, wrapped up in my tent
And I've listened to the old folks talking

All you freeborn men of the traveling people
Every tinker, rolling stone, or Gypsy rover
Winds of change are blowing, old ways are going
Your traveling days will soon be over

He aint heavy..........The Hollies

The road is long, with many of winding turns
That lead us to (who knows) where, who knows where?
But I'm strong, strong enough to carry him - yeah
He ain't heavy - he's my brother

So long we go, his welfare is my concern
no burdon is he to bear, we'll get there
But I know he would not encumber me
He ain't heavy - he's my brother

If I'm leaving at all, if I'm leaving with sadness
that everyone's heart isn't filled with the gladness
of love for one another.

It's a long, long road, from which there is no return
While we're on the way to there, why not share?
And the long doesn't way me down at all
He ain't heavy - he's my brother

He's my brother - he ain't heavy - he's my brother ...

Randy Newman?  If it's that one, I love that song, one of my favourites.   I'm a bit of a Randy fan (!)

That Coldplay song that gets played a lot in 'moments' on tele brings a lump to my throat as does Run by Snow Patrol.

There are probably others too, but just two off the top of my head

The theme tune from Champions playing to the background of Bob Champion and Aldaniti racing over the gallops makes the hair on my neck stand on end every time.

The Greasy chip butty

The Greasy Chip Butty Song is a football chant mainly sung by the supporters of Sheffield United football club, but has been adopted and adapted by fans of several other teams including Rotherham United and St Helens Rugby League Football Club. It was first sung during Sheffield United's first match of the 1985-86 season in Division 2. This was a Blades 3-1 away win at Stoke City's Victoria Ground on 17th August 1985.

To the tune of Annie's Song by John Denver:

You fill up my senses
Like a gallon of Magnet
Like a packet of Woodbines
Like a good pinch of snuff
Like a night out in Sheffield
Like a greasy chip butty
Like Sheffield United
Come thrill me again....
Na Na Na Naa Naa Naaaaa, ooo!
