Title: Do you call? Post by: GlasgowBandit on January 29, 2008, 12:16:21 PM Thoughts on this one folks.
Its a £100 Freezeout your in level 4, starting stack was 10k your sitting on around 30k. And your on the button with 8d 9d Blinds are 150/300 and there are 5 limpers before the action comes back to you. Hoping to see a flop you also limp in so there is 1950 in the pot and the SB pushes all in - he had around 3k and it folds all the way back round to you. The SB (Boba Fett) seems to think he is hard done by thus far and he could be pushing with any 2 cards at this point hoping that he gets his raise through and increase his stack by more than 50%. I took a few things into consideration before calling. 1) I have 2 live cards 2) Stack size - if I loose 2700 here I still have a massive stack in comparison to everyone else at the table. From memmory I think nearest to be had around 14k. 3) Its 2700 for me to take down a pot of over 7k. At worse I think I am a 60/40 dog. Anyway I took a few minutes. Decided I was willing to give it a spin and take on the gamble. I even said before pushing my chips in that it was a bad call. But the possibility of taking a player out and winning more chips with what I felt were definitely two live cards and my stack size I thought was a calculated risk worth taking. As things go Bobba Fett turned over ATo flop came down A K A with one diamond, no complaints from our opponent who was obviously a massive fav to win the pot I reckon I am like 4% at best to be in with a shout. No complaints from me as I muttered something like "I did say it could be a bad call" But the turn brings another diamond and some brightspark says ohhh he had the flush draw. Sure enough as things tend to do too short stacks the river brought a 3rd diamond. And I took down the pot. Boba Fett proceeded to tell everyone how it was such a bad call, he missed out a few key facts when telling people his side of the story. Things such as what was in the pot the fact there was no action after me, and that he only had 10 x bb when he pushed. So my question is this taking everything into account would you call? ****edited the final question***** Title: Re: Do you call? Post by: boldie on January 29, 2008, 12:34:14 PM Easy call. And Boba should stop moaning about only getting bad hands in a tourney ;)

FYI, I'd think about raising the limpers out of the pot preflop/ Title: Re: Do you call? Post by: GrannyDee on January 29, 2008, 01:04:24 PM I agree with the call. The live "looking" cards make the decision for me. FWIW I'd fold a hand like a decent ace or King to Boba.

Normally I would say that calling a push with 89s in the long run isn't profitable but in isolation and taking everything else into account I believe the call is standard. Title: Re: Do you call? Post by: Longy on January 29, 2008, 03:20:19 PM Given how much is in the pot, it looks like a pretty clear call to me getting 2.5 to 1.
Title: Re: Do you call? Post by: LuckyLloyd on January 29, 2008, 05:26:43 PM You took a few minutes to call this?
