Post by: Indestructable on January 30, 2008, 09:47:23 PM
Adios Benitez after another bad result against the Hammers who couldn't beat Cioty over 4 games.
 :D

Now off to celebrate City's 1-1 draw with Derby.

LOL.

serious answer

Gerrard

Torres

Reina

Carragher

(possibly Mascherano though I like Huddlestone's potential a lot)

(not Finnan now you've got Hutton)

thats it for me

presumably iff the lose to Inter, he's gone

new man has a lot of dead wood in that squad to jettison

Title: Re: Taxi for Benitez

Serious answer, only 4: Gerrard, Torres, Mascherano and Reina.

They have very little chance against Inter.

We had very little chance to beat the teams we did in 2005 and 2007.

Mate - dont take it personal I want Agent Rafa to stay. Moyes will deliver I am sure.
Poss UEFA this year if the draw is favourable. At least Wigan started well this year...
Saints dont look as strong IMO so maybe you pie lovers will be crowing come September.

LOL LOL LOL...

Agent raffa will stay, well for 3 weeks anyway.. If someone can come up with a new manager (other than the special 1), then fine... I dont see a better manager around !! and stability is what we need not another change, lets see what the inter games bring, is he still on his way if we make quarters and further ??

for 85 minutes you looked stale and lacking in ideas, the first half was an obviously nervous performance ... the harsh sending off helped, the first goal must have been a relief, but the second must have been a daydream !!

lets be honest, a result like last nights only papers over the cracks that this is the most shoddily run Liverpool FC that most of us will have seen in our lifetime.

Good luck in the second leg ... i really hope you get through !!

@rsenal on the other hand ... ;)

You think the sending off helped?  I think the injury to Cordoba was more important than the sending off.  We've all seen sides go down to 10-men and defend like trojans.  An Inter side that hadn't lost since September wasn't going to be a pushover, even with only 10 men (most firmly camped in their own half).

The sending off could have been the other way - a more precision set of tumbles than the last floor competition in the olympics gymnastics. Funny no paper or commentator complaining about diving bloody foreigners though....

Guess Materazzi has to expect little sympathy from most parts of Europe. I watched him a few times whilst at Everton and he was a pretty dirty player then. At least Zidane would have had a smile on his face last night.

I don't think that justifys the dives Torres took though. If he'd been playing for Inter and done it to Liverpool the Sun would have published the ref & his home addresses already.

10 men didnt affect them defensively, but it certainly did offensively...

Harsh yellows, but they were hardly dives, 100% of footballers 'buy' free-kicks, well at least the intelligent ones...

Would not have made much difference, no one reads the sun anyway.. Actually, i dont think any red top would have published anything, they have all loved kicking us this season, would have been another reason to SACK raffa..

Congrats to Liverpool. Whatever the whys and wherefores, sensational result.

Materazzi may be very unlikeable (agreed) but it was a harsh sending off. 11 on 11 I would have expected 0-0 they way they were defending, so it was a pretty crucial decision

Would they have defended the same way with 11?  I think they'd have been slightly more offensive, and therefore there would have been more gaps for Liverpool to try and exploit.  Like I said, the key bit was Cordoba getting injured.  Thankfully for him, he's only out for a month or so.  Thankfully for Liverpool, he'll miss the second leg.

One thing Liverpool need to do desperately is get Mascherano signed.  The fella's immense.  Obviously, not good enough to get in the West Ham side, but a top, top class player nevertheless.

LOL - Grant said it was the worst European game you've played since he's been there.  I saw the brief highlights, and it looked like you were on top.

Having watch some utter dross from Liverpool this season, we were due a decent game to watch.

See you in the semi final (assuming we both get through this round and the next round, obviously).

Obviously the sending off affected the game but before the sending off, Inter were rubbish and Liverpool were reasonably good. Inter did not have one attack of any not till hour of the game had gone. I know they are top in Italy and running away with it but what I have seen of them in Europe, they are 2nd tier European side.

Well done to Liverpool and I think they will hold on in Italy.

Inter obv got down to 10 men as its the best chance they stood, everyone knows that teams with 10 men are harder to beat than teams with 11.....

Inter are a far superior side, i didn't get to see last nights game but it sounds like a freak result, a bit like Barnsley

Not a freak result as Liverpool completely dominated them.  Freak result as in Liverpool winning a match, then yes you're right.

Post by: Longy on February 21, 2008, 06:38:33 PM
Hmm freak result, that a bit of poetic license. If you look at the teams respective European records in the last few years you would make Liverpool faves for the tie.

Admittedly I made Inter faves going into Tuesday game, but it was by no means a certainty. Freak result describe the defeat to Barnsley not to describe a team that have beaten Barca, Juve and Chelsea twice in this competition in recent years.

There was nothing 'freak' about the result against Barnsley to be honest.  It wasn't even the worst we've played this season.  Consistent in Europe, all over the place in the league and domestic cups.

The win against Inter wasn't unexpected at all.  How completely ineffective they were as an attacking force was strange though (even with 10 men).
