Title: Spiked drinks at party! Post by: Card_Shark on February 01, 2008, 11:07:14 AM We had our works xmas/new year party this week and two of the staff have since complained of having their drinks spiked. I spoke to them both just prior to leaving the venue and both seemed fine, sure i could tell they were drunk but nothing more IMHO.
Nothing untoward happened to either person at the bash, or afterwards, but they did say a couple of things to various people, including me, which on reflection they may regret or find inappropriate in the cold light of day IE. when sober. Do you think "i had my drink spiked" is ever used as an excuse for someone's inappropriate behaviour whilst drunk? Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Post by: taximan007 on February 01, 2008, 11:15:40 AM I think nowadays, it's a very common excuse.
You obviously know the staff, have you seen them drunk before? If yes was this behaviour out of the ordinary to other times? Maybe their drinks were spiked, probably you will never know. Edit: What song did you sing? Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Post by: Card_Shark on February 01, 2008, 11:32:12 AM Edit: What song did you sing? I ended up singing 2, 1st song just to get the party underway was "The wonder of you" by Elvis Presley and i finished the night with "Delilah" by Tom Jones.....both classics IMO. Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Post by: Ironside on February 01, 2008, 11:38:44 AM as you said the firm was taxi drivers i would make this offical
if the drinks were spiked (with gbh or whatever they call it) then you need to find out who did it to ensure the safety of the public if it was just drink then there aint much to worry about Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Post by: taximan007 on February 01, 2008, 11:47:44 AM As they were "staff" I assumed they were office workers.
If they were in fact drivers, then knowing they were going to drink any amount of alcohol, they should have allowed for the next day off work in order to err on the side of caution. I am sure "card shark" being in the business as long as he has wouldn't allow otherwise anyway. Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Post by: Ironside on February 01, 2008, 11:48:48 AM but the people spiking the drinks could of been drivers
Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Post by: thetank on February 01, 2008, 11:56:51 AM People use the excuse "I was drunk" to shy away from any responsibility.
"I had my drink spiked" is all too often just an extention of that IMO. A shame, as drink tampering is a very serious crime in this day and age. Crying wolf gives the true victims a harder time of it. Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Post by: Ironside on February 01, 2008, 11:59:47 AM but the people spiking the drinks could of been drivers Yes. I agree. would you want your wife/girlfriend/mother/sister/daughter getting into a taxi with someone who spikes drinks thats why i am saying take it serious untill proven otherwise it could be a false alarm but it an industry with personal safety at risk i think you should be carefull Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Post by: cia260895 on February 01, 2008, 12:04:03 PM spiking a drink with alcohol makes me walk and dance funny ;karabiner;

Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Post by: The_nun on February 01, 2008, 12:40:18 PM I think I have just possibly had my brew spiked by the way I just spoke to the computor after going out of a game.
Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Post by: Card_Shark on February 01, 2008, 12:57:03 PM I truly don't believe anyone had their drink's spiked for 2 reasons:
(A) None of the staff made any sort of formal complaint to me, or any other member of management, it was only mentioned to me in passing. (B) My eldest of 3 daughters has Cystic Fibrosis and is often treated in hospital with drugs used as so called "date rape drugs" i have seen what they do to her and neither of the staff members concerned showed any signs of being affected by these drugs IMHO. The problem in investigating this matter further is that these type of drugs leave your body completely within 24 hours of ingestion, no one even mentioned it to be until 48 hours after the party. Post by: AndrewT on February 01, 2008, 01:02:20 PM At a Xmas office party you usually get people who drink a lot who aren't normally 'drinkers' and don't really know how their body reacts to lots of alcohol. If they're the type of people who go 'tipping point' drunk (ie seem fine and then one extra drink makes them paralytic) them they may think someone has spiked their drink. When you consider that a lot of people drink things like champagne, wine and shorts at parties, these drinks are more likely to make someone drunk quicker than lots of pints of beer.
As has been said, it's commonly used as an excuse to cover people making complete arseholes of themselves in front of work colleagues. Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Post by: The_nun on February 01, 2008, 01:02:42 PM Something like this " Oh gosh what a wonderful hand you made ".

I believe that one of the staff was particularly embarrassed because she said to me "is that money for me for sexual favours provided" whilst i was counting out the disco/karaoke money. I am her boss so maybe it was just easier to say i would never normally conduct myself in that way..........so i must have had my drink spiked! Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Post by: Claw75 on February 01, 2008, 11:10:59 PM did they have any reason to suspect that their drinks were spiked other than they were very drunk?
I believe I had a drink spiked once, and it was not just like being 'very drunk'. After about 4 drinks (not a lot for me), I was violently sick (probably a good thing in hindsight), then passed out on the floor of the toilet cubicle I was in for about two hours. After coming round, I still felt queasy and went to wait outside in the fresh air for my 'friend' I was staying with that night. I then passed out again sitting outside the pub, and came round to find my 'friend' had gone home without me. Thank goodness nothing untoward did happen. Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! That fourth pint of vodka causes most people trouble though... Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! No, other than that they behaved out of character. Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Post by: bolt pp on February 05, 2008, 02:24:50 PM I watched a documentary about this on channel 4 and they said unofficial figures suggested that the police were 38% less likely to believe the claim of an ugly bird than a pretty one.
I dont particularly agree with that idea but i understand where theyre reasoning comes from i suppose. Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Post by: bolt pp on February 05, 2008, 02:35:31 PM of course the top one looks better, it's got a double barraled posh name at the bottom where the other ones just got some random alphanumeric sequence, whats attractive about that?
If you called the other one "mordecai williams hyacynth" and the top one "crap monster" we'd all be looking at them very differently ::) Title: Re: Spiked drinks at party! Post by: littlemissC on February 05, 2008, 07:52:06 PM a friend of mine had her drink spiked in nottingham and belive me they would not be saying "i think i had it spiked".
she collapsed outside the toilet and was taken to hospital as she had no feeling in her legs..luckily it was her friends that found her and not whoever spiked the drink. |
