Title: Amir Khan v Gairy StClair Post by: kinboshi on February 02, 2008, 11:47:22 PM Most professional performance in Khan's professional career so far.
There was really only one round where there was any debate who won the points. The opponent was certainly no mug, an ex world champ who's fought some very decent fighters and has never been stopped. Good for Khan to get 12 rounds under his belt. Most impressed. I wonder if Amir will get his title shot before the end of the year. Title: Re: Amir Khan v Gairy StClair Post by: byronkincaid on February 03, 2008, 12:06:05 AM good fight imo. i was thinking that boxers' shorts/jock strap seem to come up really high, even with their hands up in a high guard the elbows are down past the shorts so it seems really hard to get good body shots in. how low does a punch have to be for the ref to tell you off? looked like it's lower abs not necessarily in the nuts.

I know Khan would have to come up a couple of divisions, 12lbs difference at the moment, but he's a growing lad and I'm sure he would be comfortable fighting in a slightly heavy weight division.

Lets not get too excited Amir is a very exciting prospect. Mayweather is a living legend already in the boxing world and will go down as one of the top boxers to ever live, top 10 imo. If it is not in the very distant future Mayweather destorys him very quickly. Title: Re: Amir Khan v Gairy StClair Post by: Rooky9 on February 03, 2008, 09:09:38 AM I can't see Mayweather still fighting at a time that Khan could get in a position to fight him, there isn't really enough out there to keep him going.
I was impressed with Khan last night though. Quality boxing throughout, took two decent shots without moving. Obviously its a little worrying on the power side to be that dominant and not end up with a KO but hopefully thats more due to the other guys chin. Title: Re: Amir Khan v Gairy StClair Post by: thediceman on February 03, 2008, 10:12:07 AM I agree it's a long shoot that we will ever see a Khan v Mayweather fight and I certaintly wouldn't want to see it happen for a few years. The only reason I even thought about it is because the commantry team kept on saying Khan as the best thing to come out of the Olmypics since Sugar Ray. Whether you agree with that or not Khan has tremendous potential. Naturally he has to realise that potential but if he did what would be the big money fights out there for him. Indeed Mayweather is unlikely to be around, most likely retired because the state of his hands, but Mayweather is not that old. He could easily be around iand bigtime fighters just can't help themselves having that one last big fight.
I know it's a long shot, but what if ??? Title: Re: Amir Khan v Gairy StClair Post by: Nem on February 03, 2008, 03:13:01 PM Khan needs at least another 8-10 fights before he fights his first world title fight (3 years). I doubt that Mayweather will be fighting then. Last night was a good solid performance by Khan - although his defense needs a lot of work on IMO.
Another good thing he has going for him is that he is quite tall for a Lightweight and he will be able to go up a few weights if needed. Maybe he can become a multi weight world champion? He should go and fight under Calzaghe's stable. |
