I have just bought a new 42" plasma HD ready tv - the samsung PS42Q97HDX - this was after about 2 weeks worth of research on google.

The problem I now have is how best to connect my current setup to the new TV to get the best out of it.

Currently I have a Liteon DVD recorder (LVW501), a Toshiba DVD player with Divx (SD-270EKB), a PACE Sky Digibox (DS430N). I also use my old technics (SC-EH750) for the dolby surround sound.

Any suggestions on connection? Or should I upgrade items? Like swapping the DVD recorder and DVD player to a single DVD recorder unit (with HD) that also plays divx. Or upgrade to sky hd?

I vary rarely use the DVD recorder but it is nice to have.
I mainly watch "ahem" divx movies and some "proper" DVD movies.

I have currently been researching google, but it is very hard to get an answer considering the equipment I have.

Can anyone help?

The items you have got are probably ok.
If you do not upgrade your sky box to hd then make sure you have the picture settings set to rgb on the sky box (service/sytem setup/picture settings/video output/rgb) and in scart 1 on the tv.
Upgrading your dvd players, personal preference really and if your using films from the net then your not going to see that much diference.
Surround Sound, again yours will sound fine. Upgrading is again down to personal choice and £££

Cept I might upgrade my dvd player to 1080i hdmi one that also plays divx

I would to get the most out of the new tv, if you upgrade to Sky HD remember its another £10er a month for the hd channels.
Or a ps3 for blue ray movies????

Yeah, will hold off on sky HD atm, until more channels go HD.

And I certainly wont be buying the HD box from sky ;)

sky plus or HD will give you dolby digital quality for all your movie and sports channels.

your amplifier is a bit old, best to upgrade to a newer one which can also handle the HDMI switching, meaning less cables to run to your TV, and can also decode the latest audio tracks on HD/bluray movies, giving up to 7.1 quality sound.

DVD player.I would hold off on getting a high def dvd for the moment until the "war" is over, and instead by a nice machine which can upscale to 1080p. Can pick one up for under 100 quid.

I got this last week plays divx,   very happy with it.

It's like MP3 for video files - takes the original data and compresses it so the file size is smaller without losing much in the way of quality.

If a DVD player can read DivX files it means you can watch films you download from the internet on your TV.
