you need them both and you should read them in the right order, quite advanced but the best on the market at the mo IMHO Title: Re: Everyone's help is appreciated. Book2Buy ?? Post by: TightEnd on October 30, 2005, 02:28:26 PM That would be my recommendation too
Texas Jay, you will see if you check the www.blondepoker.com home page a new section has started up called "book reviews" It's going to contain a library of reviews by various blondeites before long, all a little different from the dry and boring type you can sometimes find. You will also see a link to Amazon. Should you choose to buy one or more poker books, blonde would be benefitting if you did so via that link. Title: Re: Everyone's help is appreciated. Book2Buy ?? Post by: The Truth on October 31, 2005, 09:40:10 AM For tournies Championship Hold'em by McEvoy & Clouthier. Expensive but a sound investment. For cash games Super System 1 & 2 the non-holdem chapters are especialy profitable.
Title: Re: Everyone's help is appreciated. Book2Buy ?? Post by: mikkyT on October 31, 2005, 11:29:51 AM For cash games (esp. small stakes on the internet - a must for bonus whores) I recommend Slanskys Small Stakes Holdem and Theory of Poker.
For tournaments, its already been noted what you probably should be reading, however as Amazon still hasn't shipped me my Harringtons books yet I can't recommend or advise against :) I had linked you to my comments on those particular books, the comments are on my blog from a post I did numerous months ago. But unfortunately it has been deemed that as my blog links to amazon, the link has been deleted. Blonde has its own link to Amazon. Title: Re: Everyone's help is appreciated. Book2Buy ?? Post by: snoopy1239 on November 03, 2005, 06:59:00 PM I started out with Cloutier's offerings, and they proved to be a good starting point, but didn't offer much more than the basics.
Harrington is a must. If you're an agressive player, you should read Super System, but just interpret Doyle's words in your own way rather than simply mimicing him. In fact, Doyle might be worth reading even if you're a rock, if only to get an idea of why the agressive players play that way. |
