Title: MTT Bubble Hand
Post by: niamhsdad on February 15, 2008, 10:00:51 PM
First post here after much lurking, so please be gentle with me.  This hand has been bugging me for a couple of days now.....

£10 Online 6 handed MTT, 11 Players of original 81 starters left, 10 paid. Blinds 300/600.

Sitting 2nd with 22,000 chips (around double the ave) and find  Qd Qh UTG. I raise to 2400 (comments?), folded round to BB who calls

History: BB is chipleader with around 45000 chips so between us we have over half the chips in play. He's built his stack without getting massively out of line and despite being on the same table virtually since the start of the tourney we've only had one major clash, when he ran  Kd  Kc  into my  Ad Ahrt. Since then we've barely played a pot together

Anyway, he calls & we see a flop of  4s  8h  9s. He checks, I bet 3000 into 5100 pot (comments?), he calls. Turn is  4c and he insta-shoves

Whats my move?

Thanks in advance for your replies

Why would he shove if he had a 4? Why would he shove now rather than on the flop? Why call with a set only to shove on the turn? Too many whys not to call imo.

Its certainly a very strange play, I think most likely he has A9 and was worried about the flush draw on the flop and then bet all in to shut off the draw on the turn. He may have had a better hand like nines full of fours and panicked on the turn. The main question I ask is do I have a hand better than my oponent thinks I might have and if so I would call.

Niamhsdad, as per the consensus on boards - I think you have to call here.

I agree..no way am I folding here...you played it fine. (though I probably bet slightly more on the flop)

Agreed, surely he wouldn't be shoving a 4 or a house (set on the flop) here?

I think you have to call

Hopefully he's read your 3000 into 5100 as a weak c-bet and thinks he can get you off overcards
