Title: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on February 19, 2008, 12:28:21 PM Morning all,
Danafish and I are preparing to bring you the live updates from the Scandinavian Open (if it's still called that) all day - no - all week, for your reading delectation. Today's play will see the sold-out event commencing at 2pm (that's 1pm UK time) with the first day's players taking on a host of, well, each other, in the comfortable surroundings of the SAS Radisson, safe from the elements which at the moment are mainly cold here in Copenhagen, Denmark. We really meant to go along to the Pokerstars welcome party/Scandinavian poker Awards last night, but promptly fell asleep and have no idea what happened there. But we do know that the city looks cool, this tournament is unbelievably popular and we even have a preliminary player list which we will be sharing with you in about a half hour's time. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on February 19, 2008, 01:06:31 PM Play not really showing signs of starting yet... a lot of milling around in the lobby/casino/hallway areas. Spotted Hendon Mobster Barny Boatman in the throng, as well as multiple Scandinavian-award-winning Annette Obrestad. The full list of Winners:
Best Live Player - Gus Hansen, Denmark - award presented by EPT media co-ordinator Mad Harper. Best Online Player - Jonas "Nebuchad" Danielsson, Sweden - award presented by EPT Season 3 Copenhagen winner Magnus Petersson Best Female - Annette Obrestad, Norway - award presented by William Thorson Rookie of the Year - Trond Erik Eidsvig, Norway - award presented by Thor Hansen Best Performance - Annette Obrestad, Norway - award presented by PokerStars Nordic blogger Lina Olofsson Lifetime Achievement Award - Thor Hansen - award created and presented by Daniel Negreanu And there's more at www.scandinavianpokerawards.com if your curiosity has been piqued as to which Norwegians, Swedes and Danes will be terrorising the field today. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 01:43:13 PM Ok, we've successfully navigated our way through the inexplicably slow press registration queue and on to the very nice press room, and we now find ourselves in position to post the most up-to-date list we can find for Day 1a. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on February 19, 2008, 01:53:23 PM Spotted: Jeff Kimber on the way to a press frenzy around him... the Ladbrokes lounge with its promise of 'fruit, girls and table football' beckons. Amusing anecdote of the day - which also incidentally gives us another 'British Player' to follow: Andreas Hoivold was born in the UK. As Jaffa says, "He said he was born in Sunderland which wound me up because I'm from Newcastle."
Interesting table lineups plucked from the superhelpful Pokerstars list thing we now get a la the Raab system: TABLE 23 Peyman Mohammadzadeh Juha Helppi Ulrica Skönnemark Paul Grabowski Anders Henriksson Sander Lyloff (Ladbrokes have this big sign up offering a competition to WIN 5% of SANDER LYLOFF which I thought was a cool prize. Wonder if he knows) Kresten Nielsen Daniel Larsson Johnny Lodden Christina Orth TABLE 31 Mel Judah Lars Blom Christian Klein Stig Top-Rasmussen Rasmus Åkerblom Leroy Soesman Barny Boatman Gus Hansen Tom-Even Heimstad Jeppe Nielsen TABLE Famous Young Norwegians Stefan Hansen Thierry van der Berg Mikkel Madsen Jens Hansen Annette Obrestad Wim Emo Dag Martin Mikkelsen Runar Runarsson Andreas Hoivold Peter Swartling Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 02:15:55 PM And we already have an unfortunate early OUTage in the shape of Sorel Mizzi. Aces v Kenneth Lyons' Queens were no good - not sure when the chips went in as I just caught the tail end of it, but there was a raggy flop and turn, and a Queen on the river. Photos to follow as soon as Floppy reminds me of the gallery login details, which my laptop has mysteriously eaten...
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 03:41:41 PM ElkY has doubled up his relative short stack. He moved in apparently for the third hand in a row, this time with pocket Sixes, and was called by Stars qualifier Nikolaj Adamsen with Aspades Tc. A probably quite painful for Adamsen Ahrt 3s 4s 2h 6h board later, and it was Adamsen who was short.
In fact a couple hands later he open-shoves the 3s 6s 8c flop. Be-dreadlocked Dutchman Marcel Kloof really, really considers it, dwelling up with all the sighing, head-on-table, banging chips around trimmings, but ultimately passes (pocket Kings, I'm told). To Adamsen's horror, Mateyboy calls without a moment's hesitation. Matey holds a set of Eights to Adamsen's set of Sixes, and he's walking off before the 3d turn and Th river confirm it. Some breaktime chipcounts: Adam Clark - 9k Juha Helppi - 9k Sander Lyloff - 6k Johnny Lodden - 9.5k Noah Boeken - 6k Mads Andersen - 8.8k Michael Greco - 13k Mel Judah - 8.5k Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on February 19, 2008, 03:58:03 PM (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=9342&g2_serialNumber=1)
Juha Helppi, Finnish poker star and leading man in many of Mr. Eidsvig’s movies (dressed currently as Mr. Blue) is sitting opposite Johnny Lodden (last year’s Online Player of the Year). They don’t appear too shy of getting involved in the early levels – surprise surprise – and just now Lodden bet out 450 from the small blind (where he’d called Helppi’s preflop raise) on a 6h Td 2d flop. Stone-faced dwell; call. Turn: Ts Now 1,350 the bet from Lodden, a sizeable chunk of the 10k stack really for the 50/100 level, and Helppi declines to call that time. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on February 19, 2008, 03:59:33 PM What with no connection for most of the last level, I have saved up lots of interesting, if slightly outdated stories, which I am about to share with y'all. But first, to show good faith in the connection coming back - the full counts from about 4 tables counted with my own blurry eyes during the break:
1201 etc Table 32 Dennis Bjerregaard Jørensen -- 4,525 Karl-Johan Fösker -- 13,000 Tom Larsen -- 15,400 Michele Limongi -- 14,600 Thijs van Tilburg -- 7,550 Ole Andersen -- 10,650 Renee Schmidt -- 5,875 Alex Amarre -- 8,350 Karim Bennani Smires -- 4,750 Jarle Aasen -- 13,300 1901 etc. Table 39 Rasmus Hede Nielsen -- 14,200 Bruce Dacko -- 6,150 Mathias Andersen -- 17,475 Michael Aadal Olsen -- 12,600 Bengt Sonnert -- 7,200 Fuat Can -- 12,500 Thomas Askeland Østerholt -- 10,475 Stale Torsvik -- 6,700 Marcus Lind -- 4,625 2001 etc. Table 40 Stephan Kjerstad -- 13,000 Børge Dypvik -- 11,800 - - Viktor Wessman -- 14,150 Jaime Ponte -- 11,300 Danny Silk -- 11,625 Daniel Ryan -- 8,700 Steven Jacobs -- 9,000 2201 etc. Table 42 Carl Hostrup-Pedersen -- 2,000 Thor Hansen -- 11,600 David Hopkins -- 10,150 Casey Kastle -- 10,950 Lennart Nyström -- 11,000 Jose Pereira -- 6,300 Morten Klein -- 12,550 Piotr Paruszewski -- 14,700 Martin Wendt -- 9,100 Trond Erik Eidsvig -- 10,550 Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on February 19, 2008, 04:06:55 PM Per Hansen (pictured) won a pretty nice pot early doors with the old river check-raise. The board was standing 3d 4h 8d 9c 7h when I moseyed over to the table. The pot looked to be around 2k and it was checked to Thomas Christiansen, who bet three blue 1k chips. Pretty quickly he was facing an all-in check-raise for another 3k (just under) from his opponent. He made a pain face for a good minute or two, before eventually thinking better of it and passing, leaving himself around 5k. Fingers in the river-flavoured cookie-jar, perhaps - or genuine dilemma..?

Anyway, he's seated next to Barny Boatman, right next to the rail, and there's a crowd now constantly lurking by their table. I caught the end of a hand between the two of them. The board read 5h 8d 9s Ks and they both checked it (I understand there had been some betting on the flop, during which the crowd got a little bigger). The river comes 8h and Barny bets 300. "That wasn't very much," says Hansen. "It's about what this hand's worth," says Barny. Gus raises to 1275 and Barny calls, but mucks when Gus shows the 8s. The crowd remains, probably hoping they'll do something funny. They don't. They're laughing about it anyway. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 05:02:52 PM Eric Larcheveque is OUT.
Annette Obrestad is also OUT to Runar Runarsson. She called a reraise. Flop was K-4-2 with two clubs; he bet, she called. Turn - 4d; he bet, she called. River was 6s; he moved in covering her, and mucked when he showed A-K. BA Kildalen saw her hand but won't tell. She didn't have a King. Johnny Lodden is similarly OUT, as evidenced by him walking towards the exit. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on February 19, 2008, 05:11:28 PM Fawaz Chawki (pictured top) just re-raised Peter Eichhardt preflop from 600 to 1,500. After answering the traditional, "How much have you got left?" question, Eichhardt called.
Flop: Ks 7h 5h Check to Chawki who pushed all in for around 6k, saying, "I'm ready to go." I don't know about you, but when I hear that kind of thing I assume they are anything but ready to head to the exit... "Have you tied your shoes?" asks Eichhardt inexplicably, before passing and getting the free show of the monstrous Kh Th in Chawki's hand. I needed look no further than this table right near the entrance to the tournament area - where sits a totally relaxed looking Joseph Serock, young US player and chip leader to the tune of just under 55,000. Swap his chair for a La-Z-Boy and his clothes for a Hugh Hefner style bathrobe, and this might be the most comfortable looking player in the tournament, with a very nice stack going into the dinner break (in 15 minutes). To his right, my Name Of The Day Wim Emo checks the Aspades Ks Kd flop. He bets 1200, and Mr EMo raises to 2500. He calls. The turn is the Jd. Again, Mr Emo checks. Now Mikkelsen bets 4500, and Mr Emo instantly raises to 10,000. Mikkelsen moves in for a few k more, and Mr Emo calls. Mikkelsen - Kc Jc Emo - Ad Kh River - totally inconsequential but it's 4c. They're not doing that count-it-all-for-you thing today, so we're going to band together with blogging's elite (OK, just Mike, Change100 and maybe Benjo) and count the full whack during these 45 minutes. Lucky you. I leave you with the Painful River of the Day: Ole Andersen gets his shortish stack in with Kc Kh against 2s 2d. Voila the 4h ... 9s ... 5d ... 3h ... Aspades. And Exit, stage left. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 05:56:18 PM I'm afraid it looks like no chip counts for us this dinnertime, as we're not allowed in the room currently. Mr Kremser told Jen we would be allowed, but he's wandered off somewhere. Hopefully we will find him, but until then, feel free to post imaginary chip counts if you so wish...
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 06:42:34 PM Some approximate chipcounts of people I recognise:
Sidsel Boesen - 20k Adam Clark - 9k Trond Eidsvig - 10k Michael Greco - 2.2k or so; he was trying to move in from the big blind with AQ when I took his count, but it was really obvious he was going to do that and he got a walk instead Gus Hansen - 20k Barny Boatman - 16k Julian Thew - 4.5k, but this represents some excellent grindy recovery, it's way up from the 2.5k or so it looked like he was down to before Andreas Hoivold - 4.3k Thierry Van Der Berg - 8k Jonas Molander - 9.5k Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on February 19, 2008, 06:49:42 PM And a few more:
Danny Ryan - 13,900 Daniel Negreanu - 25,000 Bill Chen - 18,500 Alexander Kravchenko - 26,000 Jason Laso - 9,500 Thor Hansen - 10,350 Claus Nielsen - 15,000 Jesper Hougaard - 32,000 Reijo Manninen - 13,850 Camilla Denning - 30,000 Martin Nielsen - 10,350 Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 06:57:50 PM BREAKING NEWS WHICH I KNOW BECAUSE Mike Lacey TOLD ME:
Julian doubled up with AA v TT - he's back up to 11k or so. OTHER BREAKING NEWS: Michael Greco failed to build on his microstack, and is OUT. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on February 19, 2008, 06:59:48 PM (http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=9393&g2_serialNumber=1)
Andreas Hoivold's stack enters the danger zone after a bad turn against Jens Hansen. He check-called on the turn when the board read 9c Qc Js Ts, with about 4k in the pot already, and then checked the 7c river, too. 1,500 slowly bet and instacalled by Hoivold - who showed Kc Td which had started off in bad shape, become so good and ended up so bad against Jensen's Ad Kd. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 07:08:21 PM Barny Boatman has taken a juicy ol' pot off of young Tobias Holmeide.
Didn't catch the pre/flop action, but Barny bets 2.5k on the turn of the Qs 5s 2h 8s board and Holmeide calls. They both check the spadetastic 6s river, and Barny's Ts 7s flush remains good - Holmeide was drawing dead on the turn with Ac Qh. Rock on the Boat, man, or don't knock the Boatman, or something similarly tenuous as far as puns go. Sorry. I have a cold. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 08:01:50 PM RELATIVELY BIG STACKWATCH

Gus Hansen is making some noises, and Petersen says to him, "Would you call with my hand?" Says Gus: "I call with anything..."
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on February 19, 2008, 08:11:42 PM Fairly eye-watering exit for Danny Silk just now, as Ola Brandborn, more comfortably stacked than his opponent, made a pressure-y move after they saw a flop of 8h 2h 5c and Silk bet out 4,000 (leaving himself what looked like about 10k). Brandborn signified ‘all-in’ and left his opponent a Bet for his Tournament Life (or B.L.T. as I am going to try to get it known). He called, eventually, showing Tc Td. Brandborn flipped the Ac 6c for a called bluff and watched as the turn brought the 4d but the river… the Aspades. That’s twice that exact card has popped out on the river to bust someone in fairly unfortunate circumstances.
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 08:33:16 PM Oh. Everybody knew that except me.
Well, I found out that Tea Man was Ola (Ola!) Brandborn via my own sources (Mike Lacey again), and I can tell you that he is indeed chip leader. Looks like he has over 80k since he took out that young gent. Not that way. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 08:36:21 PM Daniel Negreanu must have moved table like a dozen times. Every time I go in there he's somewhere else. Currently he's seated next to super-shortstack (3 or 4k) Noah Boeken.
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on February 19, 2008, 08:41:26 PM More chip counts, as pot after pot seems to be taken by some of the big stacks (as featured on Dana's Relatively Big Stackwatch) either with preflop re-aggression or on the flop.
Viktor Wessman - 51,500 Alexander Kravchenko - 22,600 Bill Chen - 19,000 Barny Boatman - 15,000 Trond Eidsvig - 45,000 Dennis Naci Hansen - 35,000 Mathias Andersen - 54,600 Overheard: A sentence involving the phrase 'super delegates' from Negreanu who's been moved to Noah Boeken's left and enjoying chatting with the loquacious table... Surprisingly quiet: Gus Hansen. Also Dario Minieri, Nikolas Jedlicka, Christian Harder, and Juha Helppi, but that's because they all appear to be OUT. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 08:47:38 PM Another Relatively Big Stack is the dude in the white hoodie and interesting combover-type do below (perhaps somebody will know his name, seeing as how like EVERYONE pipped me to the post last time ;grr;).
He just won a pot that looked to be about 25 or 30k, betting 5k on the river of the 3h 2d Ahrt Kc 2c board and staring fixedly at the felt until Jarle Aasen folded. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 08:53:22 PM By the way, the clock says there's a 600 minute break after the next level, so we're assuming that means play will end for the night at that point. Although 600 minutes would mean a 9.30am start for us tomorrow. Hmm. Something's not right about that. Anyway, we think they will stop after level 8.
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 09:24:12 PM Julian has moved tables: "Thank God for that," says he, on around 7k. "I got a bit unlucky, but I played a few pots really badly."
He was briefly on Table Boeken/Negreanu, but had disappeared a few minutes later when I wandered by. I'd written up that he'd busted out before Mike told me that he'd been moved a second time. With a fair few chips in the pot before the flop, Kravchenko announces all in immediately the Qh Tc 6h come out. Bill Chen seems to mis-hear and Kravchenko has to repeat himself, rather diminishing the effect of Chen's insta-call. One eight-free board later and he hit the rail - actually didn't even make it that far before blurrily pictured lady had him presumably telling the camera how it felt to have just busted....

(http://www.dcprocessingequipment.com/image_manager/attributes/image/image_5/27769155_6767616_thumbnail.jpg) - Julian is OUT. He ran his pocket Tens into Mateyboy's pocket Kings. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on February 19, 2008, 10:02:32 PM Matthias Kurschner as previously featured on Interesting Hoodiewatch has been tangling with rhs neighbour Peter Eichhardt quite a bit. I get the impression their table is actually pretty interesting to watch, stocked with players who play creative and adaptive poker, but the problem is that quite a few, Kurschner included, seem to be playing in slight slow motion - like their corner of the tournament room was experiencing some kind of space/time oddity where everyone's dwelling time has expanded for some reason.
Anyway, over around 10 minutes these two consecutive hands progressed as follows: Peter Eichhardt raises preflop utg to 1,300 and Matthias Kurschner re-raises to 4,300. After the "what's behind?" query, it appears that he's got a little less than his opponent... it lies there in little stacklets while they both look very serious. Eichhardt calls. Flop: 4c 7s Tc. Check to Kurschner whose 6k bet eventually wins him that one. The very next hand it's Kurschner utg and min-raising (to 800). Pass as everyone gets out of the way...back to P.E. who calls and checks the Td 8s 6d flop. Check. Turn: 7c Now Peter Eichhardt bets out 2,500, called, slowly. (NB Imagine reading this in the voice of the Shipping Forecast) River: Qd Eichhardt gets his 3k river bet paid and shows the 9s 7h. Someone adds to the surreality of the moment by saying, "Nice bluff." The flop says Kh 5d Js and it's Flemming Hilt (my new Name Of The Day), Thomas Christiansen (please note - one of my three picks) and Negreanu. Negreanu - Qs Ks for top pair Hilt - Jd Kd for two pair Christiansen - 5h 5c for a set Turn and river, respectively - 9h and 2h Meaning that no-one improves, my pick is up to around 40k, Flemming Hilt takes the side pot but that's only around 4k, and Negreanu is down to about 8k and looking irked. He has since busted; Noah (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=677) Boeken (http://www.blondepoker.com/blondepedia/blondepedia_view_player.php?player_id=677) took him out in some sort of way that I don't know. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 10:06:17 PM Jason Laso fans: double-up!
From the horse's mouth - he raised to 1.1k with A-Q, and another gent moved all in for another 9.5k or so. Jason called. The other guy had A-J and didn't improve. Jason's up to 19k now. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 10:26:07 PM Amazing crazy three-way all-in ACTION! again, but different than last time.
A raising war pre-flop sees Rasmus Akeblom (my new Name Of The Day), Leroy Soesman and Marcel Kloof flip 'em over. Kloof - Qd Qc Akeblom - Ks Kd Soesman - wait for it - Ad Aspades Obviously. There's lots of shouting concerning the sickness of it all, and Soesman is praying all the while that his Aces stand up, and ultimately the best hand does in fact take it, the 3s 6h Ts 7d 2c doing absolutely nothing for anyone. Marcel Kloof is OUT and Akeblom's down to around 10k. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 10:26:54 PM Also OUT is Gus Hansen, currently having his photo taken with women.
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 10:29:07 PM The clock has been stopped and they're playing 5 more hands before the chip race and hometime.
Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: Djinn on February 19, 2008, 10:36:37 PM Jarle Aasen - end of day bluffer
(http://blondepoker.com/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=9450&g2_serialNumber=1) Just now he put Michele Limongi to the test on the river with the board reading 6c 2c 3s Jh 5d. The pot stood around 10k and he bet 12k leaving himself what is usually referred to as a bowl of rice. Limongi wasn't deep stacked enough to call this lightly, and he went in to the tank in a serious manner. Eventually he passed Tc Td... and was shown the totally missed Qd Kd and a big sigh of relief from Aasen who just had to stretch a bit and talk to some laydeez. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 10:45:03 PM I resent that Jason Laso's exit is being blamed on me by certain disreputable elements of the updating community. Unlucky, Jason. Jen will be dealt with later.
Meanwhile, I witnessed only one exit in the last five hands - Jeppe Lundsgaard somehow got it in preflop with Qh Td against I think Allan Baekke's Ks Kh. The board was a moderate-to-unhelpful 5c 4c 3c 8s Qs, and that probably brings the number of players coming back for Day 2 to 83. Title: Re: Pokerstars.com EPT Copenhagen - Day 1A - At A Glance Post by: danafish on February 19, 2008, 10:51:32 PM Yes, and sorry, no more norkage for today because Jen took the camera for the last half hour or so and she's useless that way. I apologise on her behalf.
