Title: Bad play or Unlucky? Post by: scottbufc on February 23, 2008, 06:45:59 PM Just a quick question guys, would you say checking the nut flush on the turn to enjuice a bet is bad play, I have just done this short stacked only for the board to pair on the river to give the opponent the house? Being short stacked I wanted to get optimum value out of the hand but knew when that ace came on the river there was a distinct possibility it ad helped my opponent fill up. Thanks guys.

Often a 4 flush board with the bare ace i will get tricky as my hand is super obvious and it can be hard to get value from.
My default in most situations is just to bet my hand and let my opponent make the mistakes by calling. Title: Re: Bad play or Unlucky? Longy adds another by saying it's opponent dependent e.g. aggressive/passive. But there are lots more as well....the most important of which is what action preceeded the check and how the check ties the whole play together. If you have been check-calling before this is it reasonable to assume your check now will convince your oppo you are weak?.....probably not.
