Ok.  So I'm playing a 12 man (2 table) £50 stt at my local casino.  At this point there are 3 players left in.  3rd gets their money back, so it's 1st or 2nd that we are aiming for.  There are 48k chips in play, the blinds have just gone through me, and I am on the button.  The blinds are 1k/2k and i have 11k.  Both of the other players are fairly even with about 18k each.  It has been quite a tight table, and most raises have been goiing unchallenged by the blinds.  I pick up  Kh Qd and make it 5.5k to play.  Now that was a mistake.  As soon as I had made the raise I realised how few chips I actually had, and had committed myself pretty much by making this raise.  I should have just shoved.  But it was done now and I had to carry on with the hand. 

The BB looks down at his cards and asks me how many chips I have left.  I tell him about 5k, and also tell him that I'm not passing preflop as I've practically committed myself now.  He flat calls the raise.  The flop comes  Ac 7s 3s.  He immediately puts me all in.  I know this guy quite well and he is a good player.  But I know that if he has an ace in his hand, he doesnt put me all in, he lets me hang myself.  So he must have a pair that's big enough to call my raise, but that is small enough that he wanted to avoid a coin flip situation preflop.  If he hasn't got KK or QQ I know my cards are still live against his pair but I only have two cards to come.  Whilst I am considering this, the timer goes off, signalling the blinds will be 2k/4k next hand.  So if I pass, I will be all in pretty much next hand.  I tell him all of this, and call.  He shows  Tc  Th So my read was correct.  But am I correct to take this gamble?

then  you go and tell him "I am not passing as I don't have that many chips left" You don't tell him you've got a big hand..you're not telling him you've got an Ace..in fact you are telling him you've got rubbish and KQ at the very best.

He can safely push the flop as he knows you've missed..you told him so pre-flop.

If he does have an ace he would still lead out here as you've said you are commited and you've essentially told him you'll call anyways.

You could not possibly have given him more information if you had turned your cards over pre-flop.

the mistake you make here has nothing to do with the decision (as you don't really have one) when the flop comes down..it is the accumulation of errors pre-flop that cost you.

Unless you are good at speechplay I always suggest not saying anything during a hand..This is the reason why. (It's also why I'm always quiet at the table :) )

As you say stick it in preflop, lesson learned i suppose to keep an idea how many chips you have in live play.

As played i call on the basis i think he check an ace over to you so your cards are live and have 6 outs twice or maybe even ahead.

As boldie say i wouldn't say anything during a hand unless you are good at speechplay.

Yeah like I said I knew I had made a mistake by making the raise intially.  It should have just been a shove in the first place.  But once it's done it's done.  Whatever was said, we were both aware of the following.  He had a pair, and I had two over cards.  He didn't want to risk me getting to see all 5 cards.  He has me down as a fairly good but tight player, able to lay down when necessary.  What actually happened was that I called all in on the flop and caught a queen on the river.  I'm not too concerned with what happened preflop, it was a shambles and I played it very badly as I have already stated.  I'm normally very aware of the chips I have and everything going on in a live game, guess it was just one of those days.
