I've just moved into a new flat so have my choice of ISP, anyone know if some are better than others?  Most important thing is reliability as can't afford for it to cut out at busy times like i've heard some do that.  Cheers in advance.

Virgin has been excellent for me as well.

It's not the cheapest, but I'd rather stick with a stable and solid provider than try to save £10 a month looking elsewhere.

Can't say it's better or worse than anyone else though, as I haven't tried anyone else for quite a few years now.  What I'd suggest to anyone who plays for serious money on the internet is that you get one of those 3G USB dongle whatsits as well.  If you're main connection is down at any time, it's good to have a back-up option.  For £25 a month is probably a sound investment and also useful if you want to access the internet and play when you're not at home.

Don't be sold by 20 meg adverts though, it is only anywhere near that speed if your existing cable can handle it, hence they are upgrading area by area.

Vodafone's Mobile broadband is currently on offer for £15 a month.

I don't know anything about which provides a better service though.

If you have just moved house I would suggest the £30 for 3 deal at Virgin

Why bother with a dongle? I get unlimited web free with my phone... takes about 30 seconds to set it up to work with my laptop using blue tooth.

24 meg ADSL2 available from BE ( www.bethere.co.uk ) for £18/mo.

Does ADSL2 run through the normal phone line?  I have Virgin too, and it's great and I love the 20mb, but at £37pm it's a bit pricey.  Trouble is, the phone line will only handle about 5mb at the most so I'm reluctant to go to a normal broadband service.

Yup via normal phoneline, I just migrated to be today but a friends been with them for a month, my speed is still adjusting so not sure what I'll get at the end of the adjustment period but I'm connected @ 14mb down and 1.5mb up at the moment.

Im with pipex - great deal on phone calls aswell.

Have not had any probs with them and it is 8meg max (usually around 6meg though)

I have the unlimited download package but I believe they have stopped this although their max package isnt too bad

I've been using Sky Broadband since moving into my place in October and had no trouble at all.  £10 per month for unlimited downloads and free evening and weekend phone calls thrown in.

I have this and it has been super reliable for me.

Thanks have placed an order with be, however it said after i'd placed it that it would be 2-4 weeks!?  Gonna have to cancel if thats the case.

There are a few similar sites, but something like this one (http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/adslchecker.php) is quite handy in this situation. Put in your postcode (and optional phone no) and tells you where your local exchange is, and what companies have LLU equipment installed there, what equipment there is, and a speed estimation.
