Title: Haye vs Maccarinelli
Post by: Longy on March 07, 2008, 02:34:35 AM
So then Saturday night sees the biggest domestic fight for some considerable time.

How do people see this going?

Betting on Betfair has it:

Haye 1.6
Maccarinelli 2.44
Draw 42

Im no expert though im kind of surprised to see Haye a decent favourite in this as I have been more impressed by Maccarinelli in the fights i have seen

Most 'experts' I've heard seem to think that Haye will be too fast and hit too hard for Maccarinelli.

I too have been more impressed by the Welshman, and am backing him to win.  But as it's two big fellas who can both punch, it could come down to a few decent shots.  Haye's chin isn't the best, not too sure about Maccarinelli's.

Going to be a corker though.  The bookies don't seem to think it's going to be decided on points.

Really is anyones fight.
Maccarinelli will become the favourite the longer the fight lasts.

The prices are about right in my book.  Haye has more class and has been in with a better standard of opponent, he also hits harder.  Macca however is not without a chance, he is a natural cruiserweight whereas Haye has to starve himself to make the weight, which takes its toll.  After the Mormeck fight Haye said he would be stepping up to heavy as he could no longer make the weight, I'm guessing ££ made him change his mind.  Macca also has a big punch and Haye has been known to leave himself open at times.  That said I just think Haye will be too good and win inside 6 rounds.

Both fighters easily make the weight, Haye 2lbs inside and Macca 3lbs inside.

I think with Haye's chin Maccas odds are a little long to be honest.

Tough fight to call but I'm going with Macca.

I'm not sure I agree with the argument that Haye doesn't have a good chin.  He was stopped by Thompson early in his career when he punched himself out early.  Mormeck put him down with a good punch and he isn't exactly a light puncher.  Macca was also put on his back by Bruce Scott and in trouble at times in his first fight against Hobson so I don't buy the argument that Macca has the better chin.

I'm actually thinking this could be pretty one sided.  Haye has apparently made the weight with ease this time due to changing his diet.  If he isn't weight drained then I suspect he will blow Macca away.  I also suspect Frank Warren is a little worried and thats the reason he has resorted to mind games by changing the times of the press conference and weigh in.

Haye to win and be number one heavyweight in the world within 3 years :)

Says the channel is offline at the moment, but it'll probably be up when the fight's on.

You need to download Sopcast to play the stream.

I've just ordered a Eurovox box today for £99.  As I have cable coming into the house apparently I can do some jazzy stuff with this box, including getting Sultana.  Should have got one ages ago, but never got round to it.

At least you could enjoy Match of the Day on BBC1 ;)

One of this country's biggest fights since Benn vs Eubank and it's at some ridiculous hour to suit the USA TV market and only available on some obscure TV channel.

Also Haye used to be a skinny fucker and then all of a sudden he changed. There were some pictures of him on Boxrec, with a two year gap and it looked like Haye was on at least a intensive program of creatin!

Below is the post from boxrec. Unfortunately the pictures are dead.

Quote
Like i have said on every Haye moving to heavy thread....
He is "only" moving up for the money and the glory
No way should he be tight at the weight, if he is then its only himself to blame.

He has been using weights and doing bodybuilding exercises rather than using weights for athletic enhancement...

I can see him know doing his dumbell curls and pec deck... rather than power cleans etc

Worth remembering ( someone please advise if i get something wrong)

2000 - Haye still fighting at 81kg on the day weigh in.. thats 12st 10
2001 - Haye wins a tremendous silver medal against Solis.... Solis was 91kg and Haye in an interview says he was giving away 5-6kg, making him about 85/86kg which again is on the day weigh in and inside the old cruiser limit...
2002 - Makes 91kg on the day for his commonwealth games brief appearance
2003 - turns pro... despite being non title contests he weighs in at the cruiser limit for most of his fights, not a sign of someone struggling with weight...

These pictures show how he has grown in 3 1/2 years... its mainly arms and pecs....hardly a core boxing requirement.... but essential for those modelling contracts Thumbs Up

His punch power is frightening and if he adapts he could rip through the heavyweight division.

Hopefully Macca comes back from that and can win the belts once Haye vacates them.

Yeah his punching is amazing.

Check out this you tube clip on him when he was 17. He fought my mate Peter Haymer, who was at the time, an ABA champion as well.

Also, has anyone seen Demetrius Hopkins fight before? He is an unbeaten Lightwelter who will be fighting Witter in a couple of weeks. Hopefully Witter can pull through and fight Hatton in the autumn.

I've not seen him fight but if Witter wins then the fight with Hatton has to happen.  Its a poor show from Hatton if it doesn't.
