Title: JJ, QQ maybe, poss TT in the BB late in tourney. Post by: Graham C on March 08, 2008, 08:51:20 AM Tourney last night on blonde. There's 11 left, average is probably around 35-4k, blinds are 1.2k/2.4k and I'm on about 20k and in the big blind. I'm dealt JJ and it folds to the cut off who raises to 7.2k from his stack of around 34k . Small blind folds and I obviously push.
He's probably assuming my range now include quite a lot of hands, including any ace, any king, suited connectors, connectors - any more? Anyway, doesn't matter, but I assume he thinks my range is wide so calls my all in with ATs. He hits his ace and that's that but.... Would it be better in these situations to flat call the raise then push on a low flop? If he's completely missed, perhaps there's a chance he will fold hands like this after missing. if you flat it then shove the flop you're giving the chance for hands like A2+, Kx+, Qx+, small pairs and everything else in his range the chance to fold on an unfavourable flop. you want the full 20K from these hands as you have them crushed. And you'll need the full 20K off him esp on the ipoker network as its sooooo crapshooty later on. Title: Re: JJ, QQ maybe, poss TT in the BB late in tourney. Post by: Graham C on March 08, 2008, 02:29:00 PM Ok cheers, just a thought as I've lost a few times to things like this and wondered if perhaps call/shove was worth a bash. I do need the double up so keeping him in is the thing to do, not making him fold.
I obv don't play enough! Title: Re: JJ, QQ maybe, poss TT in the BB late in tourney. You're also setting yourself up to be bluffed if any over's hit the flop. He's almost guaranteed to shove on any flop given your stack so I'd say you did the right thing. Me and a friend have discussed these hands a lot and can't come up with a good way of playing them no matter what stage of a tournament. At the stage you were at you've got to be happy with a 50 50 or better so it's got to be shove and hope he doesn't hit. Title: Re: JJ, QQ maybe, poss TT in the BB late in tourney. That's true of any stage in a comp Title: Re: JJ, QQ maybe, poss TT in the BB late in tourney. Post by: AlexMartin on March 10, 2008, 04:25:54 PM I like call shove as a play, but not with this hand.

Post by: TheChipPrince on March 10, 2008, 04:38:49 PM If he folds youve made 11k, 60% of your stack, if he calls your 70% fave, both are obv excellent results... Unless the flop is the 'miracle' 10 high your not getting any more post-flop...
