Title: Yuk min raisers. Can we fold a set on the flop?
Post by: AlexMartin on March 11, 2008, 12:09:22 PM
200nl, dont have HH as PT has died.

Eff stacks 200.

Villain looks relatively t/p but not seen enough of him.

Hero opens in mp w 55 to $7. Button calls. SB min raises to $14.
Hero + button call.

Flop  Ac Kh  5s

SB checks, hero pops 22, button calls, SB min raises to 44. Hero.......folds.

Its sick, but i think its a pass. He does this with AA/AK/Kk only imo on non-drawy board.

Just these fucking minraisers do my head in, i give them too much action.
 good/bad pass?

it is indeed NEVER a pass. The only thing to think about is how to get your money in..and then think about reloading when he flips over his aces.

What is the significance of the fraction 6/9?

ps I did actually fold bottom set at the weekend but the circumstance were very precise and there was no hand that I could reasonably be beating that would be played in that way unlike here.

I don't think I've ever folded a flopped set no matter how scary the board. With this action I push every time and hope he calls. If he's got me beat then fair enough I'm out or reloading.

The only possible circumstance for folding is maybe if you're second stack up against a big stack in a satellite late stage or on or very close to the bubble.

I'm not saying it's always right to call but if I folded a set I'd automatically feel like the other guy always had an edge over me and could make me fold anything because he was a better player than me.

At least in a cash game you get to reload and people will know that they can't min raise you without expecting a fight back.

thats the point. what are we beating here that takes this line. too often we just bracket these hands coolers imo without giving proper regard to villains hand. Of course we dont make a habit of passing a set, but in this hand i feel his range is heavily weighted towards aa/kk that a fold +EV. This is the world of 16-tabling nut-peddling, its not a tournament or bigger cash game where we would never ever fold.

Alex you are def wrong here - there is absolutely no way he can't be playing AK this way and he does stack off with it after you call his min raise and act like you have Ax.

Yes alex its sick and his range is heavily weighted to 3 hands aa/kk/ak though i would say there is a small but significant chance he has something else about 5% of the time.

I personally would flat the min raise and stack off on the turn just as that extracts more from hands he has gone stupid with. His line is so lol its like he hates money.

ok, i didnt fold, of course we got it in, iv got a set ffs. BUT i dont think its a good idea. Anyone that plays a lot of small stakes nlhe knows that min raises and ESPECIALLY min check raises after a player has shown strength preflop are nearly always the stone cold nuts. He had AA and that was that. He does do the same thing with AK on the flop, but not preflop is my opinion. I think that in the right spot this is a fold v nitty min raisers.
