Title: Formula to calculate expectation
Post by: Grier78 on March 13, 2008, 06:57:24 PM
Since I was bored at work today, as a bit of fun, I decided to create a formula that you can use to calculate the odds of achieving your desired result in a tournament.

((R x P) x (1 + E x (H - 10)/H))/P

E = Your edge on the game between -100% (you suck) and 1000% (you are 10 times better than average). Average would be 100%.

H = Hands per Blind Level. Min value is 10.

P = No of players.

R = Desired result i.e. Top 10%.

Don't forget to use the decimal equivalents of the percentages. So if you are sad like me then have fun.

r=1
p=as many as you want
e=100000000000000000
h=100

i think i just won the wsop

Don't forget to use the decimal equivalents of the percentages

%/100

8/10

Here is my formula to calculate the effect of a river bad beat

(B/P)*(C/O)

B = bankroll

P = bankroll in pot

C = cards not dealt

O = opponents outs

on this scale

0-5 - routine

5-10 annoying

10 -20 ffs

20-30 internet poker is rigged

30 + suicide watch

I think anyone posting a beat of 20+ should be exempt from the normal 50p charge (providing that suitable bankroll evidence is provide)

My highest from the last month is 5, but I think that is just good bankroll management.
