Title: Laptop repair Post by: Tractor on March 14, 2008, 04:59:55 PM Anyone tried repairing there own laptop?
I have a HP Pavilion DV8000 and the screen is continuosly flickering, if i flex the screen it cures the problem, until i let go again. i suspect there is a crack in a solder joint or broken ribbon cable,, before i take it to bits i was wondering if anyone had any experience mending this type of thing? Cheers Title: Re: Laptop repair Post by: kinboshi on March 14, 2008, 05:29:24 PM Had the same problem with a Dell. Screen flickered, and sometimes went dead, flex it about a bit and it would be fine, for a while, and then flicker again. I think it was broken wires in the ribbon cable or the attachment.
I took it apart to get to the connector to see if I could secure it, and the screen stopped working completely. ;D Title: Re: Laptop repair Post by: Tractor on March 14, 2008, 05:35:43 PM Had the same problem with a Dell. removed the screen (bust, attached to a monitor) removed the keyboard (spilt water on it, on screen keyboard) :D To answer the question though there is not usually a ribbon connector but proper wires, easy repair if it's a dodgy connection BUT be careful when opening a lappy, usually there is a scew underneath holding the keyboard, remove the keyboard to reveal screws for the housing.
