Title: MTT strategy adjustment Post by: neeko on March 17, 2008, 05:56:39 PM From my OPR stats
Avg. Finish Early 4% (10%) EM 16% (20%) Mid. 36% (40%) ML 29% (20%) Late 15% (10%) I am trying to work out how I need to change the strategy during a game to gain better results, or at least learn which section of an mtt i should concentrate on. I would describe my MTT play as broadly too tight and hence my high %age ML figure. I get deepish into a mtt and then I go out trying to get a double up to make it to the end. The figures below are from a variety of winning mtt players, either just stars or stars & ft, to see a comparison. uk player Avg. Finish Early 2% (10%) Early 3% (10%) EM 7% (20%) EM 10% (20%) Mid. 48% (40%) Mid. 47% (40%) ML 30% (20%) ML 25% (20%) Late 13% (10%) Late 15% (10%) Player who I thought was tightish Avg. Finish Early 9% (10%) EM 17% (20%) Mid. 43% (40%) ML 20% (20%) Late 12% (10%) Scandie girl Avg. Finish Early 3% (10%) Early 3% (10%) EM 9% (20%) EM 13% (20%) Mid. 46% (40%) Mid. 49% (40%) ML 28% (20%) ML 23% (20%) Late 14% (10%) Late 13% (10%) Italian Porsche driver Avg. Finish Early 15% (10%) EM 13% (20%) Mid. 43% (40%) ML 16% (20%) Late 13% (10%) prob best online player now Avg. Finish Early 4% (10%) EM 12% (20%) Mid. 39% (40%) ML 29% (20%) Late 16% (10%) Judging by these figures I need to become more active in the middle of a mtt to get chips. Go out less in EM. Or do these figures tell us almost nothing? Title: Re: MTT strategy adjustment Post by: doubleup on March 17, 2008, 06:47:59 PM Just from watching cardrunners vids I think the area where my strategy differed from the better players is the 20bb mark - these players seem quite happy to get these chips in as a resteal/for value, whereas I would still have thought that I "have time to wait for a hand". So not sure how this fits in with your stats, but it probably strikes a chord if you feel you are a bit to tight. One thing I remember from reading a Sklansky book years ago was him saying that if you never get caught bluffing you are not bluffing enough. I think that the same thing applies in mtts in that if you are always getting your chips in when ahead, your probably not getting the chips in enough. Title: Re: MTT strategy adjustment Post by: Graham C on March 17, 2008, 07:08:46 PM I have the same problem Neeko, if you look on OPR at the ITM rate the top guys get, it's fairly low (less than 20%). Mine was much higher but I wasn't doing anything decent. It's definitely something to do with the middle stages I'm sure, I don't make enough positive moves to try and win, I rather go for ITM than winning.
