Title: Bad play, bad luck or both?
Post by: P.Nut on March 23, 2008, 12:45:37 AM
Evening all,

Posting this on behalf of a mate, who was the hero in this hand.  $5 rebuy on Stars, just after the break, average stack at the time was about 15k and we're still quite a way off the money.  I'll save my opinions on how it was played but would like to hear everyone elses views on it.  He tells me it was a pretty aggressive table with most hands being raised preflop, and the BB (villain) was known to be very loose.

Should have raised preflop and raised flop. If oppo has aces, that's life.

Looks ok to me given his read. I would say most of the time raise preflop but meh we has a read.

The flat call on the flop is debatable with a man behind you and some potential draws out there. You do widen bbs range though in the process and get him to stack off lighter on the turn imo.

I'm not used to play rebuy tournement. but you said the it was just after the break so I will suppose that at this time, the way to play is exactly like in a freezeout.

You said the average stack was 15k and you had only 6k. IMO with that stack I would have raised (and push if a re-raiser) and go All in on that happy flop...

I woulfd have make that for another reason : you said the paid places were not too far away so even if everybody fold, I'm too happy to win what can pay me another turn, which allow me to survive 10 hands more...

If the BB is known to be loose, hero has to be raising pflop for value, unless by loose you mean aggressive, i.e. there's a probability of a raise from BB?

After limping, jam it on the flop, 1200 into 1625 pot seems like pair to me, top pair, and ,in general, at this level they call.

Slowplaying KK is ok with deepstack, good read on table and willingness and ability to throw it away, given a difficult situation. In this case I think it's ABC all the way

Flair!

Only reason i don't like that is if he is on a draw and misses the river we don't get paid. Unless he is a complete donk who river shoves for 2k

I'm not a fan of the preflop limp, especially not on a table where you can reasonably expect action if you raise anyway.  I'd have been looking to play for stacks preflop but obviously we're never passing this flop so I think the line on the flop/turn may maximise value against this player as he'd been known to fire a couple of barrels with complete air.  Having said that, he had been a complete luckbox for the previous 2 hours and duly showed J7o to scoop after a blank on the end.  I sort of had a vested interest as i was on a percentage of The W1ng (something we usually do if we both enter the same comp, regardless of the size), and was of the opinion that by not raising preflop you're inviting any 2 cards to outdraw you, therefore when they do outdraw you it's not bad luck.

How's things Fidget? Long time no see
