I'm in the market for a digital camera, preferably point and shoot simplicity but i would still like a camera that takes good photos.

What things am i looking for in a camera apart from megapixels. Are there certain specifications that i should be looking for?

Moneywise looking at between £100 £200 but will be happy to go cheaper obviously if theres no need to spend that much, if anyones got any suggestions please post.

Got the missus a Canon IXUS75 and it's a lovely camera.  I don't think you will generally go wrong with any camera you get these days, they're all pretty good, even the cheap ones that Tescos and alike job out for £30 take half decent snaps.  If you can get one where you can control the aperature, iso and perhaps shutter speed you will more than likely find them useful, but they'll usually be covered in the various modes (sports, macro etc) rather than have individual settings on cameras in this range.

You won't go wrong with any of the top brand names.

I'm a big fan of Canon Ixus range as well. I've had two (2MP and 5MP) over last 7-8 years. Really well made, nice and compact, and regularly do well in group tests. Point and shoot mode usually sufficient, but can be fiddled about with if you feel like it.

I recently brought a Kodak camera.  An old one I had was easy to use and took great pics.  The quality of photos on the later model was awful, it didn't matter how hard I tried the pics just came out crap.  I don't know much about cameras but it seems these days most cameras have an ISO "intelligent" feature which to my mind tries to do the hard work for you and in the case of Kodak, fails miserably.

I then had the Kodak exchanged for a Panasonic Lumix. great camera with a number of settings for novice to advanced users.  I'd recommend that if it helps - oh and definitely disable the ISO feature!

8meg 18x zoom Leica lens, pictures are fantastic £249 but can get cheaper, not tried the 10meg one yet but is running at £305 at mo

Doh just noticed its an old thread lol, TBH I would avoid any Samsung camera, haven't seen a good quality one yet.
