Title: Playing calling stations
Post by: TightEnd on March 27, 2008, 02:57:10 PM
Its a regular live tournament situation, 9 handed

early to early mid stages

Every pot is multiway, its a loose pre flop game, and loose passive on flops/down the streets

raises not respected, c-bets no chance of succeeding

You are not hitting flops, but your hands must have showdown value for your stack to progress

How do you proceed?

Playing calling station is nigh on impossible if you never make a hand, but this happens very very rarely.

General strategy is to join the limp fest with small to mid pairs and lots of hand in position which don't have reverse implied odds (a rag, k rag etc) and then post flop value bet like there is no tomorrow, when you make a semi decent hand. Get in the mindset of value betting unless there is very strong reason not to, instead of the other way round.
